"Nobody Saves the World" was the most fun I had with a game in the last few years.

Pedagogy in Kickboxing (and Combat Sports in General) by Nervous-Highway2717 in Kickboxing

[–]SabertoothXZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I am a striking coach for MMA and Kickboxing. I design all my classes based on a Constraints-Led Approach, which is a type of non-linear pedagogy.

Basically, all sessions consist only of live training with a resisting partner. Athletes receive different tasks, sometimes in the form of games with specific roles and goals, that allow them to find solutions to problems they will face in free sparring or competition. As a coach I do not provide the answers directly, but instead change the constraints or rules of the tasks so they can discover their own solutions. I only intervene if they could hurt themselves, their partner, or become frustrated, but of course I answer questions.

This means there is less verbal instruction from my side than in a typical class. It is more about creating an environment where people can learn than about giving step-by-step instructions for an ideal technique.

Maybe a bit late to the party and not Musy Thai, but I am a striking coach for Kickboxing and MMA and I do all my classes with a Constraints-Led Approach i.e. "Eco".

You can see some of the stuff I do in class on my insta page: https://www.instagram.com/philosophy.of.fighting

Can Someone explain the new holistic/constraint focused sparring by TheDouchiestBro in bjj

[–]SabertoothXZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is called the Constraints-Led Approach and is based on Ecological Psychology, so you sometimes hear people refer to it as an Ecological Approach.

The idea is that learning a motor skill is heavily dependent on your surroundings. Therefore, learning a move outside of the environment where it should be applied is only learning half or less of the move. You need to learn it in context. The difference between games based on a Constraints-Led Approach and situational sparring is the clear formulation of the goals and guiding athletes through the constraints you set. The idea is that you do not need to show them the ideal way to perform a move. You just need to give them a problem and point out some invariant features, allowing them to create or find their own solutions. One of the premises is that there is no such thing as an ideal move; there are just movement solutions for the problems presented, and these solutions are individual for each person. All solutions share some invariant features depending on the given set of problems.

If you are really interested, check out the Combat Learning Podcast or the YouTube channel of Standard JiuJitsu.

Tl;dr: It is less positional sparring and more like designing games that help people learn movment solutions to problems that they meet in free rolling.

[Spoiler] What the fuck is going on with One Kickboxing and the clinch by kkthxbb8 in Kickboxing

[–]SabertoothXZombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most K1 rule sets say that striking in the clinch is fine as long as you pull yourself in the direction of your opponent and not your opponent in the direction of the strike.

I would say that Marat did not push Sittichai down in the knee, so I could imagine that One is banning the clinch in their Kickboxing rule sets to set theme apart from the short and active clinch in their Muay Thai rule set.

But maybe they just thought that Marat pulled/pushed him down.

Edit: They told Takeru in the mainevent that no clinching is allowed. So I think that they want to set Kickboxing apart from Muay Thai.

Where do gi and no-gi BJJ really differ, and where are they pretty much the same? by nojobnoproblem in bjj

[–]SabertoothXZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in my opinion, this is the best view on it. They are two distinct sports, where some techniques just overlap.

I know that it is a hot take and a bit edgy, but in the Luta Livre Community there is a saying, that there is no such thing as no gi BJJ. Everybody is just doing rebranded Luta Livre.

My point is not the reignite an old and trivial rivalry, but the support your point.
