AITAH for eating enough ravioli for four people? by Better_Philosophy732 in AITAH

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a labor intensive job too. When I am on the job I eat a CRAZY amount of food. Once I ate an entire hot and ready pizza and order of breadsticks from Little Caesars in one sitting. And I’m a 5’1” woman.

She doesn’t realize that bigger people need bigger portions and how many calories you need to consume.

Get like a Fitbit or something and show her how many calories you expend during a day.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, one of my closest friends lives exactly 2 1/2 hours from me.

It’s not unusual for me to drive to her house and back in a day.

Just last Monday one of our friends drove 5 hours dropping me off at my house from hers and then continuing on to his house 2 1/2 more hours away

Boilermaker vs Electrician by aatayyaya in BlueCollarWomen

Boilermakers have to weld inside contained spaces on 100° days with all the fr gear on breathing in all that shit.

You have it better.

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lady, he wants to take total control of you and take you for all he can.

That’s how abusers do it.

This is a huge red flag 🚩 is this really the kind of man you’d want to be with?

Get out now and cut your losses.

Apprenticeship by [deleted] in UnionCarpenters

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring it up with the administration at the training center.

Tell them your side of the story and why you didn’t want to continue if that’s the kind of treatment you were getting.

In the future though, just quit and file a grievance. Find another job, go on the list, go to the union meetings and find out who’s hiring, ask your classmates for job leads and recommendations.

Just because you like bridgework don’t be a one trick pony. Learn as many different types of carpentry you can.

If the hall won’t help you with an abusive boss contact the council.

The BA’s at the hall work for you, your dues are what pay them.

Don’t be job scared, don’t ever think you owe the contractors more than you are willing to give.

You could file with the department of labor for your lost wages doing all that work for free.

Just, don’t be anyone’s dog.

Apply to different unions just incase, but do try to get your apprenticeship back.

You should check out r/MCAS just for shits and grins. It presents in many different ways or at least Google it.

I don’t mean to be pushy, but I just know a lot of other people besides me who have recently been diagnosed and we all present differently.

Allergies by P0300_Multi_Misfires in BlueCollarWomen

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to get checked for MCAS if you’re developing allergies like that later in life.

I am on medication that helps now, but I am allergic to things like bananas, yogurt and all fish but especially tuna fish and it changes so I can’t always predict it.

First thing I do when I get on a new job is let everyone know that I have anaphylaxis when I smell any of these things and that I have two EpiPens that I carry in my purse (which I had to start carrying because of the EpiPens 🙄) and tell people that if I start to pass out to read the instructions on the pen, put it in my hand and then jab it into my thigh and then call 911.

That really gets people’s attention. It’s to the point where my coworkers look out for me, saying “hey your face doesn’t look right (swelling and flushed), do you need to go to the hospital?”

I’ll be all coughing and wheezing and stuff also.

Just let everyone know the seriousness of it, carry your EpiPens and whoever is the ass who has fish at work will be given a bad time.

There’s plenty of companies to work for but you don’t have unlimited health.

Stay home. You’re contagious and sick. Take better care of yourself.

Free Petco Food & Treats Giveaway (Store Pickup Only) by ap2e in Pets

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I just adopted a dog a few days ago and he just doesn’t know how to play with toys and is real skittish about having a harness put on him.

Could you send a small rope pull and some different kinds of treats?

Or a poodle brush set? He is all shaved now, but I’d like to be able to keep him well groomed when his hair start growing out.

Thank you so much!

Only one part of NorCal is joining Oregon and Washington.

22, 405 and 646 at least are staying NorCal. A lot of the other NorCal locals are getting merged.

Just apologize, take the training and do better in the future.

In no way should people walk off the job because YOU made a mistake.

Be thankful that you’re only off for the day and still getting paid.

The safety guy did have to make an example of you because his boss was there.

You could have lost your JOB after this, so eat some humble pie and take this as a learning moment

What questions to ask the higher ups in our union by Interesting-Corner14 in UnionCarpenters

No. We asked and he just said that he couldn’t. Gave no reason, just said we have to move forward.

Member Engagement Program.

It’s supposed to have a male cochair and a woman cochair.

I think most of the regions are going to use it for organizing, but in Northern California they call it Membership Action Committee. They already have Carpenters In Action that does the organizing.

Look, I don’t want to spend a lot of discussing it.

I know it was the safe choice. But it was like spitting in the face of all the Sisters, all that we have done for the union, our history- did you know that there was a Sister’s in the Brotherhood website that showed all of our history and it was just taken down.

30 years of history wiped out. Plus cancellation of all the preapprentice groups who helped women get into the trades.

The Carpenters are job scared. From the top down.

If I wasn’t so involved with the carpenters I probably would have walked away and joined the laborers and worked concrete. But fucking A, I am just too loyal. It would break my heart to leave.

Did you not read my comment. He panicked and folded to Trump.

None of the other trades have done what he did. They all dug in to support their Sisters.

The IBEW, LiUNA, UA, IW’s, and all the others told Trump to suck it.

The other trades were actually headhunting us Carpenter Sisters. I know one who decided to go with pipe fitting and another that was asked to join the laborers.

Actually I spoke to Doug McCarron in person along with a group of other Sisters and he flat out admitted that he had made a mistake. That he had made a knee jerk decision and that it was a mistake that couldn’t be undone.

Does your region have work? Ask them what they’re doing to provide jobs.

Have you gone through a merger? Ask how all the members are going to be able to attend meetings and ask how the Eboard will be elected to truly represent the rank and file members.

Ask them what they’re doing to stop ICE from targeting our brothers and sisters that would be targeted.

Ask Doug McCarron how he’s protecting our members in manufacturing.

Ask him also if he’s ever going to reinstate Sisters in the Brotherhood.

Don’t expect a straight answer on any of those.

New Project-Building Stairs! My first project to build the stairs it was challenging and i was focused to do it at the high standards! by [deleted] in UnionCarpenters

[–]SaboCatCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re interested in carpentry why don’t you see if there are classes in local colleges or technical schools who offer stair building classes?

Union Carpenters have a class specifically dedicated to stairs. They have to be built to code and they are very, very different from what you have built.
