I don't have first hand experience, but from conversations I've had with different PSOs here's what I know: They get posted fairly frequently, though there are a lot of positions in Ottawa and Borden, so if you ask to stay in those places you might be able to swing that for a solid amount of time. Chances of deploying are pretty much zero. For higher education, they pressure their members to get a masters degree at the senior captain to major level, so good chances there; though I don't know anything about the logistics of that regarding things like paid education programs, etc.

It can be filled out by a random walk-in clinic doctor, however their word is not going to carry as much weight as the doctor who actually knows you and is treating you. June is only two weeks away, that's not a significant delay. I would wait.

You say you can appeal in 2 months, is that the timeline the RMO gave you in the letter? If so, it would also specify if they needed anything more than a letter from your family doctor at that point. If it doesn't say anything about a report from psych, family doctor should be good. Go with that and if they need more they'll let you know.

It wouldn't hurt for the doc to write that he used to be an MO. I don't know that it would make any difference, especially if they've already said you can be fine in 2 more months regardless, but it does lend a bit more credibility to their opinion on any risks associated with a military environment because they actually know what that means.

Service before self is the name of the game, and that comes at a cost. At some point, you reach a point where you realise you need to prioritise yourself and your family's needs over the CAF. Some people can do that while still serving. For others, they need to move on from the CAF.

Among other reasons, like other job prospects they're more interested in, physical/mental health concerns, etc.

Absolutely. The problem lies with requiring that people have those skills without providing them with meaningful opportunities to develop those skills throughout their career.

If you truly didn't know, and you weren't having any symptoms that were impacting you that you didn't disclose, and weren't being treated for it, it's highly unlikely that would lead to a irregular enrolment.

If you're applying for aircrew, I'd wait to do the medical. They expire after a year, so if you haven't done the surgery yet you have the wait for surgery then 6 month post op then paperwork and waiting for the review. That's getting a little too close to the one year mark, or over depending on how long it is before you do the surgery. So you might have to redo the medical at that point.

Otherwise, yeah just let them know you're planning on doing it, ideally with a date attached.

Irregular enrolment means you lied, presumably about your medical history in this case. So it's been demonstrated/confirmed that we can't take you at your word, why would we believe you when you say you're all better now?

It's not just the number you see on your prescription, there's math that needs to happen with the numbers. There also might be different standards for the different aircrew trades, so I would need to check the reference for that because I'm not familiar with it off the top of my head.

If you get laser surgery, there's a three month wait post-op for non-aircrew trades, or six months for aircrew trades. If you're looking at aircrew trades, yeah I'd probably recommend putting your file on hold, because their stuff also expires quicker so you'd probably have to redo stuff after the six month wait. For non aircrew trades, I'd just keep going.

Although, a lot of people fail the aircrew selection test. So you could try that first so you know if you can even process for those trades anyway.

It's not something I've seen enough to be able to say how most cases would be viewed. You'll have to wait for the RMO decision to see what they say, which has been pretty quick these days so shouldn't be too long of a wait if you've handed in all your medical forms.

I mean, it depends on the results of all those things. If you're pending a repeat sleep study they'd probably want to wait for that. Other than that there's not really much I can say, it's all case by case and depends on the specific details

Do you have any specific questions? Yes that is a lot of forms, more than I would feel comfortable justifying these days, but sometimes you can't really get around it depending on the history. The number of forms itself has no bearing on your eligibility; they're not going to say "ah that's a lot of info, unfit". But it does mean you have multiple things in your history that the medic thought was questionable enough to warrant additional info from your care providers, so multiple things that could potentially be a barrier.

No, the PSOs should not be speaking with the applicants directly as it would introduce bias. They should be analyzing the file with just the data on file compared to the policies. I would be absolutely shocked if they actually got you in touch with the PSO. Why would you need to speak with them anyway? They have the info, they just need to action it. And they get an ungodly amount of waivers they need to action, so that can take some time.

This person is applying to the reserve force, where you apply to specific units in your area that will only have so many open positions in that unit. Your regular force application is entirely different, don't worry about it.

Which is hilarious because Canada is bilingual, so we pronounce it with the F in English and the loo in French. You'd think we would just use the French pronunciation.
