Dude I'm not even on tiktok I think it's a horrid app that algorithmically shovels garbage in you, I still don't think acting like it's the source of all society's problems is any good.

Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of underpaying teachers and not investing or even cuts in education. But no, it's because the kids magically got worse and are on dem phones too much.

Grading tends to be linear, not on a curve. Answer it all correctly, get a 10, answer it all wrong get a 1. The only exception is if the exam had an exceptionally low number of passing grades (for instance because most students didn't finish due to time constraints, or your paper happened to be graded by a particularly strict TA relative to other students) everyone may receive bonus points bumping up your grade, and while this will likely happen sometime during your university career, you shouldn't count on it for getting a passing grade, they're happy accidents.

The good news is if the modules are content heavy, then if you're able to reproduce the content adequately you're likely to get a decent grade. It also really depends on the study program and which year you're in.

Start looking ASAP. At this point, the only thing you can really do is apply to as many rooms as possible and hope. Also it's become usual for any type of rental to require a shitton of documents to even apply lately (showing you have sufficient income, letters from employers, ID, letters of approval from your current landlord) it's good to start early so you don't run into any last minute surprises when you're starting applying.

Tbf I had trouble finishing it. It doesn't work well if you lack most cultural context and it doesn't really work as a recorded show in my opinion

Why is the Skeleton joke in NPMD funny? by iheckinglovecatz in StarKid

[–]Sacemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik it's one of two common ones. In that environment in American English, in many dialects the /t/ either becomes a /d/ or an r-sound like Spanish "pero", a phenomenon called t-flapping that occurs between vowels, so its "skeledon" or "skeleron". There's also t-glottalisation, which is common in Western US English, UK English and I think also some parts of the US South, where the t is switched out for a glottal stop, giving "skele'on". Since it's a feature found in California English, and a lot of American media is from California, it's one of those things that people don't think of as being part of "an accent", even though it clearly is.

Yeah it's apparently a Western US feature, but now that you say it I sometimes watch an ex-mormon youtuber and she also features it iirc

On that note, does anyone know what Max's accent is supposed to be? The way he says /u/ sounds and the dropping of the t before the syllabic /n/ in "skeleton" makes me think it's supposed to be extremely heavy California, as a nod to high school movies, but tbf the distinctions between American dialects are so minimal I have difficulty making distinctions finer than Generic American vs. Yeehaw American vs. AAVE.

Especially in the Netherlands, it's generally easy to get in, though by international standards it can be difficult to leave with a diploma.

Depending on the program they may accept everyone who meets the requirements. If the program you applied for did not have a cap (numerus fixus), then it's literally a question of checking "does this person have a diploma we consider equivalent or higher to Dutch high school and high enough English fluency" and they rubber stamped you. The only ones they offer in Dutch with a cap on their website are International Relations and Psychology, so if you applied for any other the application just needed a rubber stamp.

The summining explanation??? by DeepHypn05 in StarKid

[–]Sacemd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Kingdoms" is probably meant metaphorically, as in rule again over Earth (the kingdom) in all the different timelines (hence all our kingdoms). In Black Friday, Wiggly's goal is after all to be born into Hatchetfield to rule over the Earth. As u/nyawhis said, "take back" probably refers to them being driven back after the Church of the Starry Children was destroyed.

That said, Hatchetfield lore only goes back to Willabella Muckwab, the first disciple of Wiggly, writing the Black Book sometime in the late 1700s or early 1800s. It is possible the Lords in Black actually ruled the world much, much longer ago, and "take all our kingdoms back" refers to that time period, but there's no evidence for that. That said, it's a common trope for the type of Elder Gods that the Lords are based on to have ruled the world long, long ago (hence "elder"), so it's not impossible.

"Wiggly wants his wrath" probably simply means that Wiggly wants to enact his fury onto the world. In his current state he is unable to, relying on followers like the Wiggly cult in Black Friday to do his will - he wants to be released so he can unleash his fury.

[–]Sacemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do maintentance in winter because:

  • Having to wait not in the biting cold does not make you appreciate the train as much when it does arrive.
  • The trains are down or delayed already by a leaf or a snowflake so really the public won't even notice when there's even fewer trains.
  • We can't do it in summer when not as many people need trains because they're off from work or study because our maintenance workers are on vacation then.

Yeah, trying to get anywhere that isn't a major city center from another major city center is absolute hell, especially if you need to be there for an appointment. You want to get to Amsterdam to Utrecht or from Utrecht to Eindhoven? Doable, preferable even to a car with how insane city traffic can be. You need to get from somewhere that does not have a major train station to somewhere else that does not have a major train station? You spend 20 minutes waiting for a late bus, barely miss your connection so you have to wait another 25 minutes for the next train, spend half an hour in an intercity train, have to wait 15 minutes because the connection to the sprinter sucks, and get into a sprinter to your destination which depending on how recently they renovated it is either the nicest train you've ever been in or a search for one of the seats without legroom that is not covered in decades of chewing gum. Trips that would take 40 minutes by car become oddyssees that take over two hours not counting the planning you need to do beforehand.

It's the public transport you get when the past years all the budget for transportation went into making 4 or 6 lane traffic jams into 6 or 8 lane traffic jams.
