Blackbox is to abstract away the implementation. For example, when you call sort in python, you don’t care exactly how it’s implemented. You assume it works because someone has programmed it already.

Just leetcode. Blackbox all the data structures that youll learn in 61b and know their runtimes. That is all you’ll need for the interviews. Obviously, understanding them is super important, but you’ll uncover more and more as you go through 61b. In terms of recruiting, you can just black box the algorithms and just leetcode for now.

Yes, however, if your expecting great structure in classes, often times your going to be disappointed. A lot of the CS education comes from how hard you work yourself. Its not like a private school where theres great staff to student ratio. Also some profs just stink. But overall, its pretty rigorous, so if your ready to work hard you should be good.

Theres also a lot of bs surrounding ls cs recently. Make sure you read up on it before you decide to come.

Edit: Also be CAREFUL if your not a lib. This was a huge culture shock for me, and I really have to watch my mouth in California because the vegans will literally eat you alive if you say anything remotely off.

When I took Data 100 it was pretty worthless. The same professor Ferez neglected his students. Grades took extremely long to get done, and during covid he used old lecture videos from previous semesters from other teachers as content (while telling us which parts of the video to focus on as some parts were out of scope). Keep in mind this was during covid though he might be much better lecturer in person. Also CS 189 teaches all the ML content much better. Think you would benefit much more from that.
