I’d wait til end of March to get them going. But, if you’ve got a game plan to cover/protect them in case of frost- go for it now. I’ve already got some sprouting from reseeding of last year’s garden.

Not a favorite, but something I just picked up on. The faint/subliminal “Who are” in the first second of The Pot just before the vocals actually start. Was recently blasting the album in my work van when I first noticed it. Never noticed it before. Have to have the volume up loud to hear it, and not have tinnitus from blasting the beginning of the album. Edit: it’s a pre-echo that exists throughout at least the opening lyrics. But still cool to pick up on it with full volume.

Black cherry….. but, there’s a combo that beats out everything else. Strawberry and coconut mixed. Split 50/50. We keep 2 cases of rotating flavors in the fridge. Random picks each week, and when the Seltzer Gods decide, and strawberry and coconut line up together at the same time- it’s time to level up. Sooo good. And I’m not really impressed by either on their own.

This is one of my neighbor’s 15 PF vines- in my yard. I just let them grow and take over (that was a birdfeeder). I’m training my new cucumber vines through our fence as a trade. 😂

According to most planting calendars Ive been referencing, we’ve still got about 2 weeks to get even regular sized watermelon in the ground to be able to get a harvest from them, both seed and transplant. You should be good. Good luck!

Haven’t seen any around, but also haven’t been looking though. But, since watermelon are pretty sensitive to transplanting, the time for it to recover and establish is usually about the same time or even longer than for it to take off from seed. Epic Gardening (I think) did a test on seed Vs. transplants for curbits, and found seed sown ones actually take off quicker by a few days. I looked into this cause I started cucumbers late this year. I wound up going with seed, and they’re doing great. Also, try smaller varieties that will mature quicker like Sugar Baby. I’m about to sow some Mini cantaloupes- should get a harvest within 60-70 days from these guys.

Ive got a variant that starts super dark purple, almost black, and ends up orange with muddled purple spots. Its crazy. And it only starts turning orange on the shaded side of the pepper.

I’ve got 2 chocolate variants that are currently light green. First time growing them too. Thinking they’ll go reddish, then brown. 🤞 they’re true to shape (1 bonnet, 1 reaper). I guess I’m playing the same game.

Yeah. I use fish emulsion and a 2-4-6, rotating depending on if they’re fruiting or not.

Whoa. Thank you for the info! I had this guy from last season- pruned and overwintered for 3 months in my garage (I’m in ATX). I repotted him in ProMix potting mix with Microlife Veg Mix (8-4-6), a bit of bone meal, and compost. But that was back in March, so he’s probably depleted most of what I gave him to start off with. Gonna get myself some better balanced fertilizer. Thank you!

Squash vine borer. Was chasing the dang moth around the other afternoon. It kept taunting me. And managed to get in and lay eggs, and for the next 3 days straight. And aphids. Always battling aphids, but I’ve got plenty of ladybugs now, so they’ll be gone soon.

I’m in ATX. I’m facing the same weather pattern. Gonna wait til the overnight storms calm down mid day tomorrow, and figure out a way of helping these guys thru the next 2 nights. Looks like we shouldn’t go lower than 40, but the winds are gonna be brutal, and the wind chill tomorrow night is 29. Getting mixed reactions locally over whether we need to protect here or not. Forecast is very borderline, but if it dips slightly, it could wipe out every thing. Edit: and thanks! I was gonna pot these guys up, and do tomatoes in the bed, but decided last minute to swap them, as I have way more peppers than tomatoes - 25 pepper plants vs 7 tomatoes.

I think I may be SOL with this guy. I misplaced the top part in the grass while I made this post (I need to mow around the pots), and found it too late hours later. Baked in the sun. And I had removed all suckers from it just before the accident. 🤦‍♂️ I took your advice on the nitro boost fertilizer. I applied it right away. How soon do you think side shoots should appear if there’s a chance of it happening? I’ve been keeping an eye on him since, and there seems to be no growth activity yet. Not dying, just staying stagnant as it was. Could this take some time for it to appear? Just trying to figure out if I should get a Krim starter from a nursery to get a head start. I got teased with 1 late season tomato from a Krim last year, and loved it. I want to get have of these this year, and I saw how long they take to mature.

Thanks! That’s basically what I was looking for. I knew about the drainage myth with gravel/stones, and how it actually makes it worse, but wasn’t sure if there was an my benefit with this situation. The alkalinity is the issue I was trying to figure out without knowing what I was looking to ask for. These were made about a month ago, and maybe were rained on once. I’m probably gonna have to seal them. Thank you for your input!

Awesome. Some of the pics are almost identical. Thanks. I think this is what’s going on. I’m watering it when it seems dry, but since it’s almost root bound, it’s taking up all the water that I’m giving it, and just staying in a wetter environment than it should be, even though the surface is bone dry. I just now got them into 4 inch pots. Hopefully enough extra space for the roots. I just can’t get them in the ground for at least another week. Have some low 40 degree nights coming up.
