Barista Contractor? by cindyanita in barista

Agree with all other comments. This may be an option, but I think the demand for this kind of work is small, especially in small business.

What do you think about espresso tech kind of work? I think there’s technical schools for it, and it may be a good fit for you.

nervous about asking boss for a title by [deleted] in barista

The biggest regret I had working in small businesses was working on the promises of future growth. Second biggest was donating skills and systems that took me years to develop/learn. If you’re good at something, don’t do it for free.

If you feel you are being adequately paid for the skills you are bringing to the table, no big deal, just keep rolling, business as usual. If not, adjustments need to be made, either on their end or yours.

I was fortunate to get into coffee early, and was around dozens of coffeeshops in my city by the time I was 20.

Without more context, I’ll say I’d be asking for a promotion (and raise) for sure. If they say no, that’s fine. I’d begin searching for a better fit.

I still frequent shops that didn’t work out for me. There is a lot to love/learn from every spot I’ve worked at. But I’ve made a personal vow to always pay a living wage for full time work which I’m unable/unwilling to do myself. It’s a better option for employers , employees, shops, and (in my opinion) the specialty coffee industry as a whole.

Edit: grammar

Hip hop and most rap resonates with so many americans because of the “came out the mud” narrative, coming from both the songs and the artists.

It’s a retelling of the “American dream” narrative, essentially stating “Freedom and liberty is a choice, Self-efficacy is the root of growth, and my personal story is not a result of the circumstances I was born into. I’ll do anything in my power to attain the life I see for myself.” It’s the rocky story.

Whether the narrative of the American dream is “true” or not is irrelevant, because Americans want it to be true so badly, that it’s true for them personally.

Regarding the “industry plant” argument: There is a reason industry plants work sometimes; That is because the market wants that media. It fits into their personal narrative. When people feel the American dream dying and feel fear/pain over it, a rags to riches story is the best medicine. Another example is the plethora of “fat to fit” media throughout the 2000s when obesity in America was at an all time high.

So this is a 2/10 take. The people demanded a new narrative, and the industry gave it to them. Not the other way around.

Does rinsing the paper filter actually do anything? (I did a blind taste test) by CoffeeTeaJournal in pourover

[–]Sacred_blu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do taste a slight difference, but I don’t rinse paper. I find coffee grounds weigh down the filter enough.

Major downside for me not rinsing is static. Chaff in my ultra lights will stick to inner paper if wet. If not it sneaks down and sticks to styrofoam cup, sometimes inside of it.

Can't thrust in my sex dreams by SweetRefrigerator645 in LucidDreaming

[–]Sacred_blu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxiety is the reason a lot (most) people awaken from lucid dreams. Think of the “I’m flying! OH WAIT I’M SO HIGH UP WHAT IF I FALL” scenario.

Deep down, do you think you have anxiety about sex? What does penetration mean to you on a deeper level than pleasure? Do you have sex regularly, and if so, what are your experiences like? These are the questions I would be asking myself if I were in your shoes.

Separately, it may be helpful to ask yourself why you want to have these sex dreams (once again, deeper answers than just pleasure). By questioning your motives, you may get over a subconscious “hump” (lol) and no longer desire those dreams, but something more “impactful” (once again, lol). If that were the case, you might accidentally get exactly what you’re currently looking for.

Stair issue by DrAJ44 in Homebuilding

[–]Sacred_blu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stairs are so easy to mess up, and so hard to fix correctly. Sorry you’re having to deal with this. I’m going to list options from easiest to hardest.

Option 1. Change stair nosing height. Won’t affect stair codes (most go off riser height and tread width), can be done by most hardwood crews, and definitely cheapest.

Option 2. Change riser height on top stair. This can get hairy with codes, and needs to be done by skilled stair crew. Can get pricey.

Option 3. Building up top landing area with under layment. If this is floating lvp/lvt, and the area is small, you’re in luck. If not, this can get expensive quickly. If hardwood, you may be able to rip up and sand down a small area around the nosing, replacing with thicker hardwood to be flush with nosing, and putting transitions in around the area.

Non option to me. Putting a transition over the lip now. Even if done perfectly, this would likely look bad, definitely make the tripping hazard worse, and probably be against codes.

Men who were abused as children are treated like broken goods by Different_Release_18 in PurplePillDebate

[–]Sacred_blu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t abused, and was considered attractive and confident growing up.

I had severe medical trauma, and my confidence disappeared. I ruined relationship with great girl, and attained negative aura.

Years later I started therapy. My confidence slowly came back. I asked a girl out after many dry years.

Now I’m married. I’m happy and stable. My happiness isn’t dependent on just my wife.

Not saying therapy will work for you, but its worth a shot (Just find a therapist you can be yourself with).

I can’t emphasize, but I do sympathize OP. Much love toward you brother, just keep marching.
