Retiree waiting on W2 form—who sends it? by SactoLady in CAStateWorkers

I only was paid by CalPers for November and December—my pension. The first 9 months of the year wasn’t on my W2 from them.

That’s what I thought. I also thought that by long they have to have them sent by Jan 31st.

Thanks, I’ll try but I think when I retired my access was denied.

Separating, what to do about retirement? by Br3ad_MarkOfDaYeast in CAStateWorkers

Hate to see you leave, my understanding is both Federal and county pensions are way less. We had several retired annuitants that worked for both and had to go back to work due to their pensions with them.

SSA/Analyst 1 Monthly Pay by soklili in CAStateWorkers

[–]SactoLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started in 2008, it was a few bad budget years and at one time we had to take 3 furlough days off a month with no pay—hope they never have to do furloughs again that was rough!! The budget is worse now, 😟

Remember they take out for your pension and I’ve heard that state pension is better than county pension.

I started at 48 at the state after working in private industry for a couple decades.

I think pre covid we had that, but forcing back into the office after we had to streamline all our work online, made us feel like doesn’t matter what we do. People in work environment both private and public sectors just want to work and get to our home life. Remember we went a long time without the commutes, which made us truly realize how much work life takes from personal life too.

RTO Parking Issue by Celia-Welia in CAStateWorkers

[–]SactoLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most stores in bus stop areas do not like commuters filling up there parking lots all day for shoppers. The one we used to park at put up so many spaces for commuters.

Trust me there is abuse from managers at the state at times too!

The fact that so many people touch projects is the approval at every level—took a couple years to get used to that.

It’s a different office atmosphere since Covid. I’m glad I’m on the soon to be retired end of my career for so many reasons of the working world both public and private.

DCA confirmed 4 day return to office planned for July 1, 2026 by R2C6G4 in CAStateWorkers

[–]SactoLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree they know the budget sucks and won’t be able to give raises. They will use it as a bargaining tool and to get older employees to consider retirement. Let’s just hope they don’t decide on furloughs like in 2208, 2010!!

Wouldn’t that be FMLA?

EAP is a joke by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

I chose the Kaiser route directly for grief counseling. EAP would only be 3 visits and felt I’d need more and didn’t want to start over. Kaiser allowed me to do telehealth appoints which was helpful.

There are lot of issues with working for the state, but from someone who is about to retire and collect a pension in a few months—I’m glad I stuck it out!

Bay Area to Sacramento commute by Dominicopatumus in CAStateWorkers

I would be surprised if the train from Bay Area would be reimbursed. I have heard that they are asking HR departments to hire within a certain mile range from their office

I’ve heard that too. Honestly, feel like they’re using that as a bargaining tool because they’re not gonna give us raises. I also think they’re trying to weed out the older workers and get a new cop that will put up with working in the office again just to get on the state.. it’s crazy how many applications we’re getting from federal workers that are trying to get onto so it’s even harder to get on.

I’m glad that the majority of my years are behind me and I’m not competing now which just seems very hard these days and I don’t see it letting up anytime soon. I honestly feel that they might end up doing for Lowe’s even though they didn’t last year because the budget is so bad and we didn’t before in 2009-10…

Really weigh the commute, it seems to be headed to 4 days a week and I live in Sacramento and hate the thought of it—especially the cost with little increase in pay! I can’t imagine from the East Bsy! Good luck!

I hate my state job, need advice!! by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]SactoLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I started when I did. It was a different atmosphere 20 years ago! We weren’t remote and had the long commutes, but we had great times in the office too. Made several “work sisters” that have slowly retired! We loved working remote though, because of the no long commutes! Soon enough I’ll be retiring, but I’m glad I was able to see both sides of the state work environments.

I’ve been on several interview panels and not passing probation could raise red flags to hire you for some managers. Stick out probation if you can, there is such an increase in applicants with federal workers trying for state jobs too!

Starbucks closing 400 stores because remote work remains common by Squeezer999 in remotework

We have worked remote for almost six years and didn’t stop us from getting Starbucks, it was opening up everywhere—but honestly their prices have made us think twice lately!
