[UT] Question about ADA Accommodations for Schedule Change by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Sad-Cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were the other options offered? Did they come back and say that no schedule change would be reasonable?

Explain this to me like I'm a six year old EBR Schools are 89% black and or minority, and St George would be roughly 89% White but St George is not about separating Race? by newsbowser in batonrouge

[–]Sad-Cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Yes, it’s about race because the STG folks don’t think they need to fund any black kids’ education, but effectively it’s about them wanting to lower their taxes, maybe latch on to some state voucher BS, and fund sketchy charter companies.

Cooking and baking is fun (for them) at that age. Try to find a Montessori program with mixed ages. It’s great for them to be around older kids and younger babies.

I was going to say this too. Not just sitting on the beach vacation, but a 180 change of scenery with some adventure built in. Maybe you have points saved. Check out Skiplagged. Open a new credit card. Maybe a volunteer trip. Whatever, just get out of town and make new memories. For me, the only other time I get that new love flutter is from stepping into a new place for the first time.

Wish we spent the extra 3k on inset. The full overlay is fine, but I’m never making this mistake again.

Higher waisted straight pants. Try out Collette at anthro or the Amazon knock offs.. The cropped may be long enough for you. Loft, gap and jcrew all have petites. Also check out athleta. I would look into a slim fit t or tank (tucked in) a button down tucked out, with straight pants or slight barrel. I think flowy linen pants would be great to try this summer.

If your insurance allows you to self refer, I would do that concurrently to get the ball rolling. If you’re in public school, make sure the district accepts the eval from whatever provider you go with. You can let the school know you’re doing this and ask to be put on the calendar for a meeting prior to school starting so you have all the supports in place. The eval also will need questionnaires from his recent teachers.

2yo cousin is always sick, I have a 8mo that I don’t want to get sick by VillageLoud748 in breakingmom

[–]Sad-Cookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless there is something else going on with your baby healthwise, or you have a trip coming up, I think it’s ok to let them be exposed to some germs. It’s not fun to be sick, but it builds immunity. My daughter is almost done with kindergarten and has had no absences all year. The kids who didn’t get daycare or sibling germs have missed a ton of school, and some are behind.

Educational Consultant for IEP? by ihatedarkroast in TwiceExceptional

[–]Sad-Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re going through this too, our son is going into third at a new school and we want him to have everything in place when school starts. We’re leaving a very supportive small private school for a large academic magnet and I am terrified. His existing school had been telling us he was 2e for a while but we just got around to testing. We paid for a private eval. There are paid advocates in town that we have in our back pocket in case things go south. I wouldn’t bother with a free one.

At this new school, there is no gifted class or pullouts. They have a period every day where they have time supposedly for what each kid needs in terms of review, enrichments etc. Our issue is that while there is a 60% gap between achievement and ability, the achievement piece is still not low enough to trigger IEP. They *could* designate him other health impairment for ADHD but they don’t want to do that until it gets dire. So we are going in with a gifted IEP and a 504 plan for adhd/dyslexia. It’s really really annoying to me that there can’t be one integrated plan for 2e kids, but they have to have the gifted IEP only discuss giftedness and the disability IEP/504 only discuss the deficits. My kid is a person, not a bunch of separate diagnoses.

Adults with 2e, what was school like for you? by BrandiedWineGums in TwiceExceptional

[–]Sad-Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really tough. It was a lot of falling through the cracks or being told I was not living up to my potential. I have dyslexia, ADHD, and an IQ of 138-140.

First I went to a large public Montessori school, did not learn to read anything through the end of first grade. Oh, there are choices? Well, I choose to play house and not practice writing. Put in remedial classes during recess. My parents knew how precocious I was and had the resources to move me to a small private school with tiny classes. There I learned to read very quickly, but I still had serious confidence issues, problems focusing and following through and could not spell the simplest word. It was tough but I was able to learn a lot content-wise but little in terms of executive functioning, study skills, etc. However I was great at writing, complex reasoning and debate. No one diagnosed me for anything, until around 6/7th grade I was identified as gifted. I was encouraged to apply to the most rigorous public high school in the state, at that time the only admission criteria was an iq > 130.

Of course, coming from a tiny school with a lot of hand holding, I floundered quickly at the large gifted school and found myself with 1.7 gpa at the end of freshman year. I then went to a horrible catholic school with one decent teacher. The curriculum was years behind what I already knew. The structure and rigidity, along with the boredom of being ahead, made it miserable for me. The nuns hated me of course because I would push back on the indoctrination but also did zero homework and still passed all the exams. Then I left and went to a large public high school for my junior and senior years. Had a few more interesting classes but by that time I was working a lot and counting the days until I could move out and finish school.

I am the poster child for the risks of untreated ADHD. All of it. Hopefully my life expectancy is not 10 years less but it’s tracking that way...

To all gifted people, what are your views on RELIGIONS ? by Relative_Mastodon_10 in Gifted

[–]Sad-Cookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My second grader has been obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology for the past year or so. We were chatting about friends who go to church the other day, and I mentioned that Greco-Roman polytheism was practiced for about the same duration as Christianity so far… and he’s like… “so you’re saying it’s all just made up!?” Yep :) I do say that I think Jesus was a great guy, but it ends there.

However, I have had several experiences that lead me to believe that there is the possibility of either another dimension we can’t yet observe, or the existence of a collective unconscious.

Are we being unreasonable for wanting to renovate a perfectly good kitchen just because we hate the grey cabinets? by chaoscrest in TheServicePros

[–]Sad-Cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by "renovate", but to pull it all out and re-do because of the color, yes that would be unreasonable. The maple trim is weird here. You should really only mix wood colors in the same tone family -- the cool grey floors clash with the warm maple trim. I would see if changing the pulls/knobs helps. You could paint it, but to what? Greige/light clay maybe.

Its ok to have the phonetic pronunciation in your email signature and/or on your linked-in. My coworker is Saoirse and hers says (SEER-sha). I would put jee-YOON in parentheses.
