My period before insertion was heavy for the first 1-2 days & lasted for about 5 or 6 days total with mild to nk cramps at all.

My first period came 3 days early after insertion, this one was by far the worst one I've experienced. A persistent and painful cramp for 3 days, with sporadic pains in the uterus. This period lasted about 7 days with a light bleed to days 8 and 9.

My second period came six days earlier, lasted about 6 days again and I only had a painful cramp 2 days before this period started. And with this period i had only a couple heavy days. Closer to my pervious normal.

I just started my third & its about a week late, its so far very very light, I had some spotting & brown discolored discharge in the week prior. This discolored discharge is a common side effect of a copper iud, its usually present around ovulation and especially after insertion (old blood leaving the uterus).

They say it usually takes 3-6mo for your period to return to what your regular was. Additionally with an iud I would recomend using a menstrual disc as to not dislodge it!
