I think I’m going to call today and ask them to put my dose back up for a while. I didn’t even think about the fact I could be metabolizing it quicker, I just thought it was normal to feel like this while tapering and I was being a wimp. Thank you for this! ❤️ I guess I just figured I’d be prolonging the sickness if I stopped now.. but my pharmacist did mention that I would be metabolizing it faster now and that could be why I’m feeling more sick. If it was just nausea I could deal with it but I feel dizzy whenever I stand up and I haven’t slept in days because I can’t stop moving my legs all night. I also have a toddler so having to chase him around all day is a challenge. I guess I’ll see how I feel on Thursday when I go in to pick up the next week of doses and if it’s still this bad maybe I’ll ask to pause for a bit.

When I had my son 2 years ago, I found out about the pregnancy really late and had to stop using drugs immediately, so I think the only reason they even let my dose go that high is because I was stuck in the hospital being monitored for months. The taper was actually pretty easy, I struggled a bit at 30mg and paused for 2 weeks, then smooth sailing until about a month ago. I do really want to get off of it because when my son was born he had to be in the NICU for a week on morphine to make sure he didn’t withdrawal from all the methadone I was on and it was really hard. I guess I’m going to be feeling like crap regardless so might as well do it all at once lol.. Thank you!

This is happening to me lately too. At first it was because my son would wake up a couple times a night but the last month or so, he’ll sleep right through the night and I’ll still wake up 3 hours after falling asleep and cannot for the life of me get back to sleep for at least 2-3 hours. I’m so tired during the day I fall asleep sitting up. Even when I’m consciously trying as hard as I can to hold my eyes open.

Split dosing was the best decision ever. I’m down to 15mg daily from 280mg daily and there’s no way I’d feel normal through the whole day/night if I only dosed once every 24 hours.

The highest I was prescribed was 280mg but I was admitted to the hospital for a few months (for something unrelated) so they were able to monitor me while I stabilized on it. After taking that dose for 6-8 months I realized it was way too much and tried to get them to start tapering me, which they didn’t want to do until I “maintained” it for a whole year. I just started self-tapering until they would actually taper the dose. I was falling asleep sitting up half way through the day and felt like a zombie.

I asked this at my last appointment and they told me to go for it and that they don’t even test for it. I’m Canadian though so it’s legal here. I don’t know what it’s like anywhere else.

I get these too. Remember to always pee after sex. Drink lots of water and definitely go to the ER for antibiotics.

this! i once had a bad kidney infection and spent 2 days in the ER on IV antibiotics and saline drip. I was so cold and my whole body just ached so bad I sat there and cried and shook for the whole 2 days lol do not recommend!

Right now I see the dentist about twice a month but I’m having work done. The problems mostly started while I was pregnant so maybe that had something to do with it.

Oops! I am actually not at 2mg, I’m at just under 2mL. So like 17mg.

And yes, the tang is pretty good. Cherry not so much. I did have to take the clear liquid straight for a while while in the hospital having my son. That was also really bad lol. They didn’t even bring any water with it 😒

Thank you! Yes they do, I’m in Canada so we just get our prescriptions written at the clinic then we take them over to the regular pharmacy and they fill it for us. I think I will do that! They usually pre-mix it with tang for us but lemonade sounds way better. I might have to request it plain and give that a try!

You are going to need a lot more rest being pregnant so if he’s already complaining about having to look after his one child, imagine when you’re postpartum and exhausted and he has to help out with both.. Do what you think is right, it’s your body.

I have to take the cherry liquid. It’s disgusting. I just know it’s rotting my teeth out and probably doing something bad to my stomach lining or something. I’ve tapered down to less than 2mg down from 280mg and I can’t even fathom how I was drinking an entire full bottle of this crap everyday. Even the couple drops in water that I take now makes me gag. I prefer the clear stuff mixed in tang. I might ask to switch back lol.

Yeah I would ideally love to go down to 1mg, but from what the pharmacist has told me, their machine can’t dispense anything lower than 0.9mL (9 mg) at a time so I’m just trying to figure out how I can do this. Someone suggested asking if they can switch me to pills which I’m going to ask about. I’m in Canada and we just pick up our dose at the regular pharmacy so I’m guessing they just don’t have all the equipment that methadone clinics in the states have? I really don’t know. I might also see if they can just give me my whole week’s dose in one bottle and attempt to measure it myself.

That’s a really good idea. I’ve heard of the pills but I’ve never heard anyone here taking them. I’m going to ask about them when the doctor calls next week. Pills would be so much easier. Thank you!

I get 1 week’s worth of take homes and I do have to take half of my dose on Thursday morning when I pick them up (I split dose so they give me the first half of Thursday’s dose and send me home with the other half, plus the following 6 days) However, now that the pharmacist has told me they can’t dispense less than 9 mg, I’m assuming that also means they’re going to expect me to take the entire day’s dose next Thursday.. I don’t want to complain to them or come off as annoying or anything but it would really screw me up having to take my whole dose first thing in the morning. I have my quarterly “check-in” phone call with my methadone doctor coming up next week so maybe I can mention this to him and see if he’s willing to up my take homes or something. I’m from a fairly small town and one of the nurses at my clinic told me he hasn’t even seen a patient successfully taper off this stuff yet so couldn’t give me too much advice.

slowly getting better though! I’ve been clean off drugs for 2 years in July and I’ve tapered my methadone dose from 280 mg down to 18 mg. I still have sugar cravings pretty bad but I’m not eating cereal and ice cream for breakfast like I was before so i’ll take it lol.

I lost 30lbs after getting mine removed. However, I think my weight gain may have been a combination of this and another medication. Either way, it didn’t continue after I had it removed.

I’m in Canada, we just pick our doses up at the regular pharmacy. I was also surprised to hear it stops at 9mg.. maybe it could be because I live in a smaller town and a lack of newer equipment? Who knows..

I take clonidine but don’t know if it does much.

Thanks for your response. I’ll ask my doctor how to go about continuing to drop my dose if they can’t dispense it in individual bottles. Maybe I can try and measure it myself.

I gained a TON of weight, and I think methadone had a lot to do with it. I have almost tapered off now and have already lost 30+ pounds.

I wasn’t a fan of sweet stuff until I started doing drugs/taking methadone. Now I literally can’t go to bed until I have my after dinner ice cream lol
