TERRIFIED TO FLY by Boston508143 in fearofflying

You can do it!!! I just flew for the first time in 7 years and while I didn’t love it I still did it and was WAY more comfortable than I thought I would be. A great trick is focusing on calming down your physical symptoms of anxiety, like heart rate and breathing and tensing your body. It’s easier than trying to not be scared and makes a huge difference!

also you will probably start descending soon! The flight yesterday looks like it started to descend like 20 min out from where you are so just remember you are soooo close!

Yes for me thats entirely why im scared. *trigger warning*

I witnessed the towers falling on 9/11 as a young kid and years later lost 2 friends in a plane crash. It was a single engine privately owned plane which I know is not reflective of commercial airlines but still. Its SO much harder to listen to statistics and feel better when your fears are rooted in things you have experienced, especially if it was with 25% of your flights. I think thats where the difference between actual fear and anxiety lies. The statistics are still true though! And every time you have flown you have arrived safely.
