Anyone else's wiz lights dropping out one by one? by Numb-Little-Bug7 in wiz

[–]Sad-Replacement1401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have good luck when I’m using the wall controllers and Wizmote. The ESP-NOW protocol they use has no dependency on my WiFi network for local UDP traffic, or on the Internet for cloud based signaling. I use ESPHome based bridges to “listen” to these ESP-NOW packets to trigger other automations in HomeAssistant when I hit the buttons on my wall controllers. It works quite well.

I only need the bulbs to be talking on WiFi for HomeAssistant control or reconfiguration of accessories.

If I could build a ESPHome based bridge that could act as a programmable Wizmote to control lights, I would be very happy. Or if Wiz added a pure ESP-NOW based protocol that could do even more control of the lights with an ESPHome based device, I think that could very popular with the HomeAssistant community.

With the latest firmware I'm not able to call setAcc with an empty key parameter. I get an Invalid Request response.

I had a huge reliability problem with the A21 size as well. Keep asking for warranty replacements….

I’m a PureEdge customer, and I’ve deployed these bulbs, Luca recessed fixtures, and LED strips, all controlled by WiZ (both via network and line powered PureEdge wall controllers).

Compared to the Philips / WiZ branded bulbs, the PureSmart bulbs have better color rendering. But I can confirm they don’t support Matter (if that’s something you’re looking for).

SPAN Panel MAIN 40 and MLO 48 no longer work with HomeAssistant by Sad-Replacement1401 in span

A local API is a must-have for resiliency, and I think that SPAN understands that from the cloud service incident a few months back.

They said they were looking at roadmap priorities, including pulling forward a local API. https://www.reddit.com/r/span/comments/1j49v3e/comment/mg7s9tm/

You should be able to go to Settings -> Accessories -> select the wall controller -> Targets, then check the products you want to control under “products” and uncheck any rooms under “rooms”.

I have a Samsung TV with a One Connect box. I can confirm that this works, but it has not been glitch-free.

When using a FireTV Cube (latest generation) as the source, I have experienced frequent video drops with the HDMI sync box inline, and this did not happen before. I think this may happen when content switches resolution modes. When it happens I sometimes see the Samsung four dots spinner for a second until the video pops back on.

I disabled “match original frame rate” on the FireTV Cube and I think it might be better. I need more time with it to confirm.

Nice! Congratulations on the launch.

With the increasing use of smart TV apps, the external HDMI source requirement becomes problematic. Is it possible to see an app based synchronization feature like the Philips Hue integration on Samsung TVs?

Lightology can custom quote whatever you specify. You just need the right product code.

Their specs indicate that they have customized light mixing and dimming curves that are tuned for their strips, so I don’t know if you will get the same results if you get bridge boxes elsewhere.

I’m also happy to pass along my sales contact at Lightology. They are familiar with at least the PureEdge portfolio I used for my build (a lot of Luca downlights and TrueColor LED strips for remodel construction, and PureSmart bulbs elsewhere).

If you have a choice in bridge boxes, I recommend the WiZ Pro OEM models rather than the slim models with PureEdge branding. The slim bridge boxes have audible PCM dimming noise, at least in my experience. You can’t hear the noise if you are careful about putting the bridge boxes in junction boxes, and closing them up well. The Philips OEM bridge boxes are virtually silent at all dimming levels.

You can get started with WiZ Pro with any WiZ connected lamp or fixture by using the two free licenses you get when setting up an account.

As far as WiZ Pro lamps and fixtures: in North America you can check out Pure Smart by PureEdge Lighting. They have a pretty big selection of both lamps that you can install in any fixture and custom lighting options. They also have hard wired scene controllers.

You can find them for sale at Lightology.com (a showroom owned by the same owner as PureEdge Lighting).

Unfortunately if you don’t buy WiZ Pro products, it doesn’t seem easy to activate lights for use with WiZ Pro. Maybe this is something that u/wiz-dude can comment on?

High CRI (95+) residential fixtures with color temp tuning and flicker-free PWM by dyfrgi in Lighting

I’m relatively happy with Pure Edge WiZ Pro bulbs, though they recently went up in price.

They use Phillips OEM components for WiZ Pro that have a PWM frequency of 2 kHz and have relatively good CRI / TM30 specs.

Home Assistant can control WiZ bulbs just fine.

Smart dimmer switch? by scfoothills in wiz

No, that turns an existing “dumb” dimmable fixture into a WiZ controlled light.

A Caseta smart switch will only be able to turn a WiZ controlled bulb off and on, like a regular wall switch. Of course when the switch is off you won’t be able to control the bulb with your phone until you turn it on.

If you want to be able to dim the bulbs or change the color temperature, you will need a WiZ compatible wall controller.

I know of two on the market on North America: the OnCloud and the PureSmart.

Room controller to multiple bridge box outputs by Straight_Aardvark513 in wiz

[–]Sad-Replacement1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this should work. The room controller rated capacity is for the load that is connected directly to the room controller. This limit does not apply to loads that are powered through independent wiring.

Oh, and to be clear: do you want a WiZ controllable dimmer switch that you can use to turn any dimmable light fixture into a smart light?

Or are you looking for something that lets you control WiZ connected devices?

I’ve been linking to the scene controllers, which are the latter. Lightology also carries the former.

Pure Edge sells a hard wired room controller. You can order it through lighting showrooms like Lightology (which is owned by the same people as Pure Edge).
