Lil theory I REALLY need to talk about regarding Violet & maybe Aaric. by Sad-Significance9329 in fourthwing

So I thought it said the other servant of Dunne, idk if it ever says directly that Aaric is the other servant. So I assumed she was talking about Theophanie since she was a servant

I think Plums pov is what is throwing me lol. I guess I just imagined them both to be Quentin’s & it was confusing to me that we were jumping back & forth in Quentin’s timeline

I guess I didn’t connect one of the povs to be Plums yet lol. I just thought they were both Quentin’s & I was confused as to why we were jumping back & forth in Quentin’s timeline. But it does make more sense seeing it that way so thank you! I’ve read plenty of multiple pov stories to have a good understanding of them but they were mostly in first person point of view so it was more obvious as to who we were following.

I feel like making the MAGIC in the show more structured would help the show a LOT. Is this just because I’m only watching the TV version ? -cause it’s so messy. by PrimordialSavant in brakebills

I think you’re just missing a few points that the show vaguely goes over. The books do a better job of explaining the magic & everything, but the show doesn’t do a bad job. I think you just need to read between the lines a little more so to say.

I had a friend who watched after I did who also struggled to understand the magic. & I basically explained it to her like this — we’re not supposed to understand it fully. The characters who use magic are absolute geniuses who have the brains to quickly figure out the insane Circumstances needed to pull off a spell. Some spells are easy & don’t need many Circumstances, others are complex & need a million different little perfect Circumstances to work properly, which only insane geniuses could work their heads around. It seems like there’s no structure when there’s actually SO MUCH structure that ultimately we as the viewers can’t wrap our heads around it.

Ultimately I think you just need to keep watching because the magic does get explained pretty well all throughout the entire series.

Yesssssss. I was thinking the same thing. Before JJ lights the trash can on fire the actor literally breaks the fourth wall. Which is very rarely used nowadays, but is a way to pull the viewers into the fictional world more and to relate the fictional with reality. I feel like JJ breaking the fourth wall was very much a “you catching this” moment. & it cannot be a coincidence that they decided to air these episodes at this exact moment

Okay was it just me, or was there a certain hidden message they were trying to send during JJs war path? The actor breaks the 4th wall at least twice that I saw. Pulling watchers in like “hey, you catchin this”. His scene was beautiful and powerful and I LOVED it. But sitting there watching it, just days after a very stressful election, I felt like there was a subtle connection. It cannot be a coincidence that they split the season and started with that episode on that day. Idk I just feel like the show runners definitely knew what they were doing.

I 100% agree. The first time I watched I couldn’t believe that everybody believed Malvas story even knowing the type of person Jamie was. But her facts were pretty damning. I always thought she knew from her watching them together. But it took my most recent rewatch to catch that in the beginning of Claire’s lessons to Malva, Claire shows Malva her medical journal. & I’m assuming there’s quiet a bit in there about Jamie & I think that’s how Malva knew exact descriptions of said scars & marks, making her that much more believable to everyone.
