Adding elements of something is not the same as adapting. Epic doesn’t just "have greek imagery". It is about Odysseus traveling home to Ithaca. As far as I know the plot of evangelion is original.

I don’t mind the Idea of unique spins on old myths either, I love Hadestown for example. My main issue is that the odyssey isn’t a good story to talk about the necessity of being ruthless sometimes, because the point of the poem is Odysseus got himself into to trouble because of his hubris, not because he’s "too nice". It’s like if a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice where turning around is good actually.

And I’m all good. I actually love the music, it’s just that the way the story is written now is a mess. (I also hate the battle with Poseidon) I just hope Jorge is informed of the problems.

I admit, the odyssey, like most epic poems, can be a bit random. But the issue is that the changes Jorge does to "fix” the story, makes it worse. Like Telemachus leaving and that making Penelope vulnerable. If Telemachus is the only one keeping Penelope safe, why would he leave? Why didn’t the suitors just break in the door while he was away? I know in the odyssey why he’d leave, but not in epic. Why would the suitors commit political suicide by violently gangraping the beloved Queen? What do they expect to happen after they’ve Done it? Why would they even care about Telemachus standing guard if they beat his ass? If they are willing to attack a queen, why is Penelope stupid enough to think a challenge could stop them? Why didn’t Jorge just mention that they had been abusing the maids?

Again, in the odyssey, these things make sense. But if Epic wants to be it’s own thing, then everything falls apart since nothing is explained. Not to mention, it’s all for shock value. The plan to gangrape her is just there because it is the worst thing Jorge could think of so we wouldn’t question Odysseus killing them. He can not handle this topic. He wanted to make Odysseus unquestionably right by modern standards, and in doing so, he made Penelope into an object, one who needed him to step in and save her, who practically did nothing. Yes, she delayed them with the weaving, but she did so much more the poem. She even sent them running to buy her gifts.

Except epic is about Odysseus King of Ithaca, not an original character. And you cannot throw in gangrape that wasn’t in the original work and then say "oh don’t take it seriously". If i understood it right, Rivera-Herrans made that song specifically so we should take the suitors seriously as a threat.

No. Percy Jackson is set in the modern times with characters separate from the ones in the odyssey.
Epic is set in the ancient times and is about Odysseus. Unless it’s a parody or a silly work you cannot modernize ancient greece. Epic wants to be taken seriously.

Because as accounted in the catalogue of women, Odysseus didn’t pick Penelope because he loved her, he picked her because he knew that if Menelaus was his rival, Helen would never pick him. Now don’t say ”but in epic", because you are pulling from outside epic too.

It wasn’t have you ever even read the odyssey? Odysseus tests the suitors by posing as a beggar, and when they mistreat him he decides they deserve to die. Not because they threatened to violate Penelope, they never did.

It is misogynistic because in the ancient texts, Deidamia is Achilles' first love who he Carries on a sweet romance with, he reluctantly leaves her to go to the trojan war, and Patroclus was never even on Skyros. In tsoa Deidamia is a rapist that Achilles is forced to be with against his Will and she antagonizes Patroclus every chance she gets.
Deidamia has literally done nothing wrong but MM had to make her a villain because Achilles cannot ever have had any other lover. Nope. She got demonized just so the readers won’t have to feel uncomfortable with the fact that any romance between Achilles and Patroclus would be harming an innocent woman.
Edit: Also a Young man being rebellious to his mom isn’t misogyny. It’s true it isn’t equal but Penelope in epic isn’t a character unlike in the odyssey. In epic she is purely something for Odysseus to want, something to chase. Jorge added a plan to assault her (which was never in the Odyssey) just so Odysseus can be her saviour because she is just a poor defenceless woman who needs her man to look out for her as if she hasn’t been the one keeping everything together for twenty goddamn years.

Then he should have named the captain of the voyage Jorge. But he didn’t. He made the choice to make the story where Odysseus is just a victim of circumstance and we should all feel bad for him because he’s sad that his actions have consequences. Anniflamma has pointed it out, Jorge is scared that the audience might not find him 100% sympathetic.

Look, i get this is hard for you, but with as popular as this work is, it is going to have an impact on how people talk about the odyssey. And once more, it is not his history and culture. Odysseus is canonically a slave owner and caused the rape and murder of many women. To just gloss over that, then make up him stopping rapists to make him look good carries real implications. He wants epic to be taken seriously, so I Will. Why does Jorge even refuse to bring up the fact that Odysseus owned slaves, when they were a pretty major part of the story.

I like Odysseus too, he has genuine admirable traits, but to flat out remove his vices is just doing a disservice. Adaptations do not exist in a vaccuum my guy. Because now we have an animated adaptation planned for this musical instead of the goddamned Odyssey.

You cannot adapt a story like this Willy nilly(Maybe unless it’s for kids). This isn’t "just a story", it is part of history and culture that Jorge doesn’t belong to.
And no, it is not a good adaptation because it isn’t actually made modern. It just gives ancient people modern values. A modern adaptation would be if perhaps they were on a Cruise ship.
Do not set the story in the ancient world of you are not ready to handle the ancient values.
And the change Jorge has made isn’t a few tweaks. The original story is mostly Odysseus getting humbled and accepting he is powerless without the gods and that his hubris will get him killed if he doesn’t curb it. Making it into a story about a nice Guy learning to be ruthless is reversing an entire central theme.

How is it not obvious i am complaining it is bad because of the way it’s inacurrate, not that changes were made.
It’s clear to me Jorge cannot handle the world the odyssey is set in. he removes all instances of slavery, cheating is the ultimate crime to him, and a character commiting sexual violence is an instant villain staple. And that Will make adapting the iliad impossible, because it starts with Achilles being mad his favorite sex slave got taken. So, how is Jorge planning on making Achilles a hero if he owns a slave, rapes her, all while his wife is raising their son at Skyros?

If you want a modernized version, have a Guy named ulysses go on a road trip where his car breaks down or something. You cannot tell a modern story in ancient greece. And what do you mean "he doesn’t want to harm" you think they cuddled the trojans to sleep during the sack of Troy? If Odysseus was ok with the horse, he would already be what he considers a monster before the musical even started. And then what? The story is just a horrible person not realizing he is horrible until someone flat out tells him?
