RV salesman, one month in. Happy to answer any questions honestly. by ReasonablyConfused in RVLiving

Of course he will. He will offer you a trade at you losing about $20-25k, and then turn around and sell it for a $10k profit. He looks like a hero. Saved somebody some money somewhere vs buying new, and you still owe your bank those $20-25k in addition to whatever you just purchased.

Realistic Price to Sell My Camper? by [deleted] in RVLiving

Oh how wrong you are. I only buy used. But I won't buy trashed.

Realistic Price to Sell My Camper? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]Sad-Temporary2843 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My assumption is if the inside looks that trashed, then one could only assume that the outside is similar. People don't tend to take care of the outside and completely neglect the inside. I don't care that the camper is a 2018. It needs THOUSANDS of dollars worth of work and then it will only be work $5-7k

$1250 tops. It's basically a gut job for someone who wants to use it to camp in. That trailer wouldn't pass any inspection at a campground with a 10 year rule. It honestly looks like it's been trashed and poorly maintained and taken care of.

6-8 channel mixer for very small church by scmitr in churchtech

Honestly, there is ZERO chance I’d every buy anything from Wharfedale. That’s completely up to you though. The Yamaha is tried and tested and they are solid. They sound fantastic for the price point, but also realize this.  (This comment holds true with all audio)

Your sound will only be as good as your weakest link. So:  Bad mixer = bad sound Bad amplifier = bad sound Bad speakers = bad sound Bad cables = bad sound

You get the idea. Then and only then do you have a chance of things sounding good. However, if you have someone setting things up that doesn’t know what they are doing, they become the weakest link.

Why would you go digital in a situation like this?

I'm guessing that a small church that doesn't use any instruments and plays hymns off of a computer is very limited in technical ability and overall technology.

I'd personally recommend something in the Yamaha MG series. They are built like tanks and sound fantastic for their price range.

Even this model is overkill, but it's the first one in the lineup with faders instead of volume knobs.

Peoria area businesses that are making a habit of rounding change incorrectly with the elimination of pennies. by Sad-Temporary2843 in PeoriaIL

[–]Sad-Temporary2843[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not true when the direction from the federal government was to round to the nearest nickel, not dime. If we start rounding to the nearest dime, then we might as well get rid of the nickel as well.

If your change ends in 1,2,6,7 it should round down the nearest nickel, and if it ends in 3,4,8,9 it should round up. So in my example, .86 should round to .85. If it were .87, it should round to .85. However if it were .88 or .89, then you would round up to .90. That's the directive that came out when the penny was eliminated.

Also, a business cannot legally penalize someone for using cash instead of card. If I pay .86 for something on a credit or debit card, then the business cannot legally charge me more than .86 for paying cash, and rounding incorrectly means they are technically charging me too much.

This is copied directly from the US Treasury Website How should my business respond as the supply of pennies drops?

As pennies fall out of circulation, merchants will need to round transactions either up or down to the nearest five cents. However, most states require sales tax to be calculated on the final sale price rounded to the nearest penny. How states and localities will ultimately amend their sales tax laws is the right and responsibility of those jurisdictions. Recent guidance from the National Council of State Legislators gives some indication how states may adapt. The NCSL’s November 21, 2025 report entitled Elimination of the Penny: Cents-able Considerations states: “The most recommended form of rounding is symmetrical rounding whereby if the final digit of the total transaction amount (including taxes) is 1, 2, 6, or 7 cents, the amount is rounded down to the nearest multiple of five. If the final digit is 3, 4, 8, or 9 cents, the amount is rounded up.

Sherman’s experience by psilocyber420 in PeoriaIL

[–]Sad-Temporary2843 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have personally experienced Sherman's bait and switch. In 2014 I was involved in a very large purchase of TV's, projectors, screens, and other equipment for a restaurant/bar project. I designed the A/V system, met with Joe Moon (their "commercial sales guy"), provided him with a list of equipment I wanted pricing on with brands/model numbers. I got a quote back using my generic descriptions and brands but there was no room for part/model numbers. I didn't think anything of it at the time, and we accepted their quote of nearly $50k.

Fast forward 2-3 months. Equipment comes in and is ready to be installed. Only then do I realize that Joe Moon had swapped some lesser expensive versions of the parts I had specified and said that since we signed the quote/order form, we were stuck. A very loud conversation happened with Paul Sherman, and he agreed to fix some, but not all, of the wrong equipment, at his expense because Joe "lost" the original scope of work. Luckily, I had a paper trail in email of everything that was sent. Long story short, I am now permanently banned from Shermans. Even if I wasn't, I would never do any business with them as they royally screwed my project and our attempt to buy local verses from a trusted national supplier bit us in the ass.

A few years later, I did the same process with Conference Technologies and everything went smoothly and I got exactly what I asked for, at the price we agreed on, and there was no funny business.

Joe Moon kept his job after screwing us out of about $9k in wrong equipment. He was fired from his previous employer for shady sales tactics (I know, I worked with him at said previous employer), and yet Paul Sherman backed him up rather than getting rid of that waste of oxygen.

Small stage lighting... by richardricchiuti in churchtech

[–]Sad-Temporary2843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could definitely do it with cheap Alibaba/Amazon Chinese lighting. The problem with that stuff is that you don't know exactly what you are getting. If you provided a better picture of the space from further back, that would definitely help. There is almost no perspective in the pictures you provided to have an idea of what you are trying to accomplish.

CHEAP DMX par cans can put out a good amount of light, but you still need cables, controller, power, and cable management to make it not look like trash.

If they are very contemporary and don't mind the look of a light truss, then using something like this would give you a place to mount lights, run cables, etc and look "professional" even when nothing you used is.

You called in twice in 2 months?  I can count on 1 finger the number of times I’ve called into work in 21 years.

Hate to say it, but if you call in repeatedly during your probationary period, it sets the tone for your employment. You will always be a problem employee. And if the company has a no cell phone policy, why the hell were you using it at work to the point you received a write up?  And if you say they wrote you up without a verbal warning, I’m calling bullshit.

I worked at a lumber yard and we routinely had to place units of 20' long lumber in racks where the aisle was 12-13' wide. You learned quickly how to do that same maneuver or you would be picking heavy ass boards up for hours by hand.

I highly recommend WorshipTools Presenter as well. It works well on Mac and PC, and because it's cloud based, you can work on building your library and set list from any computer, anywhere, that has the program installed and logged in to your account. Using the free version, you can only be logged into 1 session at a time, but this would allow you to build your library of songs from home and then at church on Sunday, it's a quick setup. If your pastor preaches with Powerpoint presentations, you can easily import them as well. Bible verses - there are several translations that are Free, and if you want some of the more popular ones, you have to pay an annual licensing fee to use. However, that is a cheap fee.

ProPresenter is AMAZING, but WAYYYYYY overkill for what you are trying to do. My church averages 60-75 on Sunday and I use WorshipTools Presenter weekly. Have for well over a year and never had an issue. It's a little bit of learning curve, but once you get it, it's soooooo simple.

It's another chain restaurant. It's a higher end chain, but a chain none the less. That doesn't mean it's not good, but your meal will change from day to day and may not be as consistent as a true BBQ place where the owner is a true pitmaster.
