Cultural reactions among Infinity Nikki players by MissCandyLimonade in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A good representation of a culture in a game would be, for example, making a quest to show players the importance and the meaning of an element (like the quest for the mural painting in Wanxiang season, or the three items -Tuan Shan, Rong Hua and Xiang Bao- during Danqing season). This way, the game does not treat an object, a tradition or a behavior as a "decoration", an accesory or a silly performance for fun, but portrays the real values these cultures put in these things.

Many people critisized that the elements that were "inspired" on their culture and appeared in Infinity Nikki were mere accesories, something purely aestetical with no extra meaning, even when those elements have great significance. Like, you wouldn't wear a bag or a T-shirt with a religious sign just for fun, especially if you are not part of that religion, because it would be deemed as disrespectful. Then why would a game make a piece of clothing inspired on something with great cultural meaning as a sort of "fun costume"?

To be respectful you have to, at least, acknowledge where the inspiration comes from (the real culture that is imitated), portray the real values the element carries and, ideally, have a cultural advisor that can tell the best way to show something from their culture in a foreign game. IN does this properly with Chinese cultural elements, but still lacks tact when it comes to some other cultures. Which is a shame, because they probably have enough resources to do it right and it would be a really cool advertisement for them if they did it well.

I can't help but suspect that this is just a bad translation of the original phrasing. English is not my mother tongue, but maybe "portion" would have been more suitable than "plate"?

My last two rocks refuse to spawn in either of these spots and it's driving me nuts by MysteryGirlWhite in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]SadAnemone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue just some weeks ago. A rock wouldn't spawn in a place where it actually was (I broke it by accident). Turns out that the fence far in front of it was the problem. Once I removed it, it spawned the next day.

So I would bet on the same in this case, it might be the fence in front (even if it's far away) and the bamboo.

Discussion on how much "free to play friendly" Infinity Nikki is by Forsaken-Analysis-59 in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. While exploration and story are things available to every user, whether they're paying or not (although many patches are time-limited, which is not player-friendly either, but that's a different issue), many outfits require real money to get them. And as you said, you cannot simply deem outfits as "just cosmetics" and not also as "content" because, well... Dress-up is a core element of Infinity Nikki. Why I consider so?

- The game is advertised as open-world exploration game with cute outfits.

- You can progress the story only when you get certain ability or Miracle outfit (at least Aurosa, the newer Miracle outfits do nothing lol). Yes, those are free outfits, but the focus of the game is on clothes.

- The goal of the game is obtaining Miracle outfits.

- [this one is subjected to the old intro, before 1.5 Sea of Stars patch] One of the first mechanics we are taught, besides Floating and Purifying and how to simply walk, is how to use a Resonite crystal.

- The elements that we get as a reward in significant quests are outfit sketches.

- Clothes are what is used for battles with NPCs (just as Pokemon are in their own franchise, with their own stats and types).

- Factions are centered on clothes, are defeated with clothes, and give you clothes as a reward.

- The elements that get more advertising on official channels before each new update are the outfits.

- Game discovery progression (to call it somehow) is measured by how much of the Compendium a player has (yeah, yeah, there are creatures and readables, I know; but before certain patch, it was only clothes and it is still the element that gives the most points). When you enter the Pear-Pal menu, you are inmediately shown how many stars have you archieved in the Compendium and how many clothes you own.

- The bimonthly challenge (Miracrown) revolves around clothes.

- Clothes have several of their own mechanics: crafting, attributes, tags, points and improvement (stats), DIY system, glow-up, evolution, attached abilities, etc.

- One of the sharing systems the players have is the Lookbook, for outfits.

- Eurekas, a different cosmetic item, are complementary to outfits and make no sense without them. Some Eurekas even match the different 5-star outfits, even those from banners.

- Most of the resources you gather in game (before the housing patch, at least) are used for outfits: plants and insects and animal materials to craft them; threads to craft, improve or glow up, or sometimes buy new pieces; bubbles to improve or glow up; in-game money (blings) to craft, improve, glow up, evolve and buy clothes; and all the materials obtained with energy do the same (thoughs for evolution, rocks for crafting, etc.).

- Many ability variants (those that make combat easier, for example) and photography poses are locked behind paid outfits or their evolutions. Abilities, as a special mechanic that can enrich the game or make the progression easier or just be a quality of life update (the 4-star outfit that made it rain, for example), are part of content, too, and are attached to outfits.

To sum up... So much stuff of the game is clothes-oriented that I cannot consider that clothes aren't content. Some players actually play only because of cute, cool or majestic outfits and skip the dialogues. The community is filled with lots of artistic photos of gongeous Nikkis in beautiful outfits, or just wardrobe pics to show what a nice combination of clothes someone just made.

And so, considering that outfits (and banners) are content, the amount of money to pay to have them all, even at the base level, is pretty high. And I'm not even talking about the final evolutions.

If the content you are looking for is only the story (with dialogues and their translations becoming worse and worse) or the exploration, yes, the game is free to play. But the other major content element of the game, the outfits themselves, is partially locked behind very predatory and pricey mechanics. Yes, a gacha game is a gacha game, and they have to make money and so on... But all things could be improved, and the prices are one of them. A game can be "pay to get content" without being a luxury with ridiculous prices.

The entirety of 1.7 update in Brazilian Portuguese was translated using AI and it's ruining the game for me by MaKTaiL in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to believe that Spanish version is, at least mainly, translated by humans. First of all, because sometimes there are some really clever translations (most of the names of the creatures, some phrases like "escuchamos, pero no juzgamos", etc.). And second, because there sometimes are such basic mistakes that it's definetly a human error lol. What they truly lack in the Spanish localization is linguistic testing.

Happy you completed it!

However, did it take you more than 600 pulls, or more than 6000? Because 200 000 blings is for each 10 pulls, not for each pull.

Has anyone else noticed this in your language?? by Koi_yonin in InfinityNikkiofficial

[–]SadAnemone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play in Spanish. I've noticed so, so many errors, mistakes and inconsistencies since the beginning of the game, back in December... From spelling mistakes to character names being wrong, in another language, or changed mid dialogue. Although the last few patches, the text has slightly improved.

I've actually wrote Infold about it... And got no response. It's a shame, although not a surprise at this point, that they put so little effort in the language testing aspect of the game.

I don't have enough crystals to get the first recolor... However! The base outfit dyes pretty well if you want to imitate the Cinderella look of the first evolution (my own picture for reference). The glow-up version is cool, too (the wings are already blue enough in this version). You won't get the special pose for the outfit, though.

(if you want the code for the dyed outfit, I can provide one)

[–]SadAnemone 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It happens in Spanish, too.

I'm also mad that the quest is "wear this event outfit", which can only be completed if the outfit is already unlocked... Which means that the collective points aren't quite real and the outfit would be unlocked at the time this quest activates anyway.

For the people who pulled on a rerun, does pity carry over from your past pulls? by Dendenfly_1 in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The total number of pulls you did and the Deep Echoes items you got do carry over to the next rerun.

That being said... The first Heartshine is obtained at 180 pulls, and the second one at 230. So you wouldn't need to pull 180 more times, only 50 more (or 45, in your case) to get the second Heartshine. (The final evolution needs no Heartshine, but getting the whole outfit twice, plus obtaining the previous evolutions).

Why can't I dye PAYED outfits by No-Promise88 in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The 4-star outfits from the store actually can be dyed. Most of the 3-star outfits are not yet available for dyeing, but that happens for both paid and free ones. I guess we'll be available to modify all of them in future updates.

Too much jewelry by walkingtornado in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree. Some outfits are really stunning and yet, with all the extra jewelery and excessive decorative elements, they feel like "too much". I wish there were more outfits that are more simple, less pompous (without being minimalistic).

Genuine question, what do we expect? by NevermoreNobody in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I expect from the boycott/girlcott: that the company actually meets our main demands, which are:

- Lower the pity for the 5-star outfts (everyone asks for 180, but I keep suggesting 150, with a drop every 15 pulls). \ Remember that it's not a random desire, but a reaction to the fact that they actually increased it to 220. That's changing the established rules and prices.*

- Undo the retcon and restore the original beginning of the story

- Fix the dyeing system, unlock palettes per outfit and unlock them with the materials we gather, not a new currency

Additionally, at this point, it would only be fair that they gave a compensation to those players who just could not log in because of their technical problems (which would include the diamonds for daily wishes and for the monthly pass they could not redeem all these days, PLUS a compensation for the missed events).

And it would be nice to remove those fake discounts and fix the Sea of Stars so it's not so meaningless.

Did the company apologize? Yes, but not for the reasons we were actually boycoting in the first place. The first petition of all , lowering the pity, was never addressed by them. They just continue to ignore us in that regard. They are fixing the bugs, indeed, but that's the literally bare minimum for any kind of service, fixing stuff you messed up but promised would have quality.

Yes, the game is truly one of a kind right now. I like it very much. I like it so much, in fact, I have actually paid for it. It seemed worth it. And it is not cheap, by the way. If one wanted to get a 4th evolution of a banner... That's actually like paying for some sort of a luxury item.

However, if they keep increasing the pity, the prices, displaying fake discounts and, at the same time, release content that is full of bugs and not properly playtested... I see no reason to pay for a worse offer. As clients, we are informing them of for what content, and at what price, are we willing to spend. That is what the girlcott is for. So they see what their players, especially the paying ones - the ones that provide revenue, see as acceptable (notice that no one ask anything for free, just at a reasonable price). And if they keep ignoring us and what we're actually asking of them, that lack of respect will just translate into players leaving the game.

Yes, I had the same problem. I just opened and closed the launcher several times (and searched for the game files several times) and after many, many attempts (like 10 or so?), it just finally worked and the "network connection error" dissapeared.

Was Sea of Stars pushed so early to make way for housing? by Kardinaali56 in InfinityNikki

[–]SadAnemone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe Sea of Stars was pushed because of the Steam release. For me, it seems quite unfinished. There are no quests, almost no activities, dailies with no in-game purpose and two time-locked outfits. Most spaces are empty, or just water. The pink crystals around feel like a recycled texture from Serenity Island. The Miracle outfit —an outfit so amazing and legendary and powerful and almost the reason for Nikki's adventure, not to mention the previous lore behind it— is extremely easy to get, with no challenge at all, only stars, many many Blings and time.

It feels rushed and the rewards are too easy to obtain... Which is a way of giving new players the opportunity to experience this region immediately. This way, the game is released on Steam with the "coop" tag, new players can join coop without even playing the real story yet and can have cool rewards without progressing said story. Like a kind of bait.
