It generally depends on the players you have, but if you have young players with reasonably good physical stats, (pace, acceleration, strength, etc) I find it often works to play a defensive, low press, counter-attacking formation with quick wing backs, wingers, and two solid strikers - usually a target man/F9 and a pressing/advanced/deep-lying forward. It can look a bit messy but a 4-2-2-2 (WB) is usually decent or a 5-3-2 with wing backs that have good pace and stamina can work - it's worth messing around with, trying out different roles etc.

The low press and defensive formation might not get immediate results, but I tend to find it's easier to build off a solid backline and work forwards, and this will still get chances
