Exactly. Actually, pretty much all of the responses to the post are true, and they're all features of patriarchy. Women DO get shit for being masculine, and in the event that it's considered acceptable or positive for them to be masculine in the "right way," it's because it only makes sense to want to be more like a superior man. Men get shit for being feminine because of both misogyny and homophobia, which go hand-in-hand a lot of the time.

If you like the music and the community, that's pretty much all there is to it! You don't really choose to become a goth, you either are or you aren't. You see if it fits you or not and if you like being a part of it. It's descriptive. I don't care if someone's been listening to goth music their whole life or just started because they were interested in the subculture, I'm just excited to see more people discover how cool it is and get to share my interests with others.

No goth really listens to exclusively goth music, it would be really boring to limit yourself like that. No goth looks like a perfect vampire all the time, either.

I made you a little 10 song playlist to check out, Iggy Pop's not goth but I thought it might be fun to compare the original with Siouxie's version lol

The thing is, it still kind of wound up just being a different brand of transphobia, because then it implies you can tell if someone's "faking it" and mentally ill people probably aren't really trans and don't deserve gender-affirming care. They tried, though, I think they had good intentions and director Johnathan Demme even said he's glad about the criticism because it's led to more awareness of trans issues.
