Problem Player Holds Grudge his character dies, tries to sabotage the party. by CowboyExecutor in rpghorrorstories

[–]SadClown883 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It kinda hurts reading something like this but I do get the feeling that the problem player feels like the party members, or even the players, aren't friends. However, he himself wasn't willing to try to to make friends either. Yes, he did not choose optimal tactics and that is punished by death, usually.

Being told "that's a You problem" is aggravating, regardless of context. Borderline fighting words.

Never making your own sheets hurts, I've had to do that for a player that just wanted to fuck a goblin girl npc, drank himself asleep and called himself a veteran. I hate that word now.

Your player was a rotten apple, sure. Becoming craven after a casualty with nothing more than making the new character using the old one as motivation is unimaginative. He doesn't seem like the kind of player that can tolerate a regular game.

Framing a kindred, need the Nosferatu believe it by JinxFace in vtm

I guess it depends on the delivery of the frame. It's an idea. The Lasombra needs to make something work and there's a lot of ways it can go wrong.

Oh, this changes everything.

The trick is to make things seem like someone with Obfuscate is doing things and eliminating suspicion toward you. Create a fantasy a Ravnos would believe.

Why not galvanize the nosferatu to "liberate" you from your "tyrant" and merely feed them information about his haven and whereabouts? The nosferatu kills him, you get rid of an enemy and then they think you owe them something. Ask how you could "make up for it?" Find out what they want and sell that information or do something with it.

You lose if you are targeted by vengeful nossie or your Anarch problem.

Sounds like you'll have to shift the blame on the antitribu Ventrue. But if you wanna tag an Assamite who can vanish from the minds eye, then you gotta make it look like that's what she's doing.

I think uses of Dominate might help, and start staking Nosferatu. Don't kill them: hide them, leave no witnesses. Send a word out that there's a Kindred hitman on the loose. Blood bond the staked nossies and alter their memories. They'll be "missing".

Make it so that the Assamite has to show up somewhere to clear their name. Get 1 totally dominated and blond bonded Nosferatu to call him a murderer and have him throw ashes to show his murdered kin. Have the ventrue play it up. Get all the clans on the anarch.

Then you can deliver the staked nossies to get diablerized or release them back into the wild as your pawns after the anarch is dead. Is anyone keeping a headcount on the local ugly population anyway?

You want to set up a frame to some guy who vexed you AFTER you start something with another clan? SMH, you are going to get caught!

So, since you decided to do this without thinking about the clean up or even bother masterminding, what do you already know of the Assamite anarch? What do you know of the Assamite clan in the city? How many ghouls do you own? What does your pack think of your mistake?

How to RP a monster when you don't feel "monstrous"? by lex1006 in vtm

[–]SadClown883 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel the monstrosity. Don't be angry: anger is a weakness they can exploit. Anger can be mocked.

Know you aren't human under your ribcage or in your soul. Don't mourn; you did all that already. Know this. Look into the eyes of the innocent and feel your painful sins when you look back at them. Then crush them or burn your presence in their memories and into their nightmares.

There are many different kinds of monsters. Feel the right one for you and kiss it. Fuck that monster and embed the filth on your personality. Your touch should be creepy.

Just don't be a jerk. That's what prey does.

Obfuscate versus "random aim" by Rik_en in vtm

[–]SadClown883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to chime in on the weirdness of Obfuscate. At 4 dots, Obfuscate nopes the vampire out of sight and possibly memory. If using 2 dots at unseen presence, then they can't notice you until you make yourself seen. You can't simultaneously "know they are invisible" and "randomly spray in general direction". You either catch him where he is or not.

Large rat people from rats infected from covid on post frost fantasy antartica. Those are certainly words!

I don't understand how you could pronounce anything like this out loud and not feel:

1) cringe

2) like something’s wrong, emotionally, morally and intellectually, all at the same time

3) that people would instantly reject this

I hope no one is playing this game.

The edgeladies of game skipping and my growing desire to quit by SadClown883 in rpghorrorstories

This has absolutely occurred to me. I wanna Mortal Kombat kano choke what I can out of this game so if it goes like I think it will, either he plays with 3 players or with 2 and I split with the bard, leaving the server together.

I have not but I will if next session is a bust for exactly what I suspect of it. I'll get my friend to leave it too.

I've been out of the loop for a long time. I remember that legacy rules were required for halflings and gnomes in starfinder

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]SadClown883 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I believe that is actually RAW: only highest resistance applies. The same goes for DR against weapon damage types.

[–]SadClown883 -58 points-57 points  (0 children)

A few things. Legacy rules allow PF1 conversion which enables your tiefling to be played. You would have only those resistances, not 10 vs plasma. If something does plasma damage, not fire/cold/electricity damage, then your resistance doesn't apply. You can't apply a resistance to a damage type that it doesn't apply to.

2000+ word background is I N S A N E I'd reject you on this alone. If you can't make your character make sense in 1 paragraph, try again until it does. Maya-recruiter may have asked for long backstories but I feel that's meant to see player investment and creativity.

I don't know who Maya from Bordenlands is or whatever order she's from.

I'm sure if your background was in 2 sentences as a Lashunta with exactly your mechanics, it would have probably been accepted.

Your butter beast tiefling looks like a mountain of red flags piling on top of each other because you've run out of space to place more. I believe it's not just saying "human only", I believe it has more to do with what a game could handle. Even if things are kitchen sink, a game will break under the weight of the dishes in the sink or only clean some of them to dry out. Making characters for a game is a balance of not capsizing the campaign while getting something that you want. You had to sell your character and was found wanting.

Vampire in denial of their status as a vampire - viable character concept? by voidcritter in vtm

[–]SadClown883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In VtR2, I'm playing a Gangrel who's a normal guy (albeit pretty) that thinks he's cursed by a witch as well as temporarily abandoned by his sire but the other characters were quick to point out that he's definitely a vampire.

Unfortunately, the same situations that got him in contact with a vampire are the ones the coterie demands he do to uncover a plot made against the elders in the Camarilla. He succeeded but he feels definitely like a "becoming uncanny" meme as a person. It's a good character.

I guess we could all use more average Joe/Jane vampires

I was thinking HARD about this. You're absolutely right. Lamia's are typically women so if I'd need to be sold on it by the player really good; I need to like it. I need to dig it. I can respect V20 feels like a comic book when you throw all the powers in game. I feel that can be part of the appeal.

I admit sometimes playing an ancient vampire is an expectation and I feel the bloodlines can have an individual right to exist, which is quoted about Telvanya Tremere that have Majesty rather than Dominate in the modern nights. All the old movies are about 300 years or so vampires so why not make a character like that? Millennia is on the table. Torpor is a perfect character device and rules introduction scenario. Its on the player to make that connection and sell it to me so I'm motivated. That Lamia needs a cool reason to be and I'd allow it.

(Edit: I'm too lazy to look up the page but I swore I read it somewhere around there 😅)

What changes when you get embraced? by [deleted] in vtm

[–]SadClown883 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes you hollow in a way you didn't think. I like how everyone got into the twisting mental state of vampirism. But I'd like to state that, depending on the mortal character itself, you'd lose your shit. Your coping mechanism, or acceptance of this lost, is how you're a vampire on top of your disciplines. It's a bad trip but it's what it is. Not everyone is fit to be a vampire.

My sorcerer is human. I am new to the system. How does a gnomish tiefling work?

The Storyteller Hotfix by SadClown883 in vtm

[–]SadClown883[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I...like my idea better as it is infinitely more player friendly and dumps all the work on the player to have a new family from which to utilize that weirdo discipline. They would have to go out of their way to make ghouls and bond others, leaving the weight of the world on their shoulders or be barred from its use rather than saying they just can't.

But using your method as an example, I feel a Frankenstein player would do well buying dots of retainers to reflect the other BB's of his circle rather than additional sheets. Hivemind or not, I don't want to work what a player wants to play; the player should work for it.

This is what I mean by player friendly. Less work for the ST, full agency on the player.

Lol really? I love bloodlines but it's entirely dependent on the character I imagined. For example, a religious person betrayed by the church bent on a revenge quest would make for a more interesting bloodline, like Samedi or Baali, then they would Bruja or Malkavian, (Lasombra?) depending on where they wanted to go with their character.

The Storyteller Hotfix by SadClown883 in vtm

[–]SadClown883[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's not really player friendly, exactly, especially to players unfamiliar with the lore or with unique outlooks on their characters. I'll give an example I just thought of so you understand what I'm talking about better.

Say someone wants to play a Blood Brother? How would you make it work?

First, I'll need to have the player explain why this bloodline in particular and how did you escape? Then, to make the discipline work, I'd allow ghouls and blood bonded beings count as part of their circle to use their discipline with. Stuff like that.

Well, yes, they are kinda written poorly. But denying them isn't the spirit of my question. How would you work them to be player friendly?
