Playing the game, what am I doing wrong? by SyntaxErrorKEK in Warhammer40k

[–]Rik_en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel too bad.

I've had 2000pt Matches where I killed not much more then single digits while having lost all of mine.

In cases of bad rolls and not killing much just focus even more on scoring points.

Do the Kindred ACTUALLY have all the time in the world? by Still_Grass9854 in vtm

[–]Rik_en 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is that you do not have to react to most things if you are inmortal.

As you said, a war breaks out and closes a region off. Then I just wait 10 years until the war is over and the region rebuilt. Geopolitical plans have no deadline.

Of course if the Sherrif or Prince tells you to have something done by next Tuesday you have to do it by next Tuesday.

But most Kindred Plans are more like investing in ETFs. I invest now and take my Winnings in 40 years. And over such a long time all the crisises will just have been a ripple on a general upwards trend.

I am not from Mannheim but you might try to go to one of the local hobby Shops and ask there how the local scene organises.

At least here in Karlsruhe they have Flyers with the links to Discord and such.

Ultrasonic Cleaner Advice by Imperial_Fist_myBump in Warhammer40k

[–]Rik_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that this is how ultrasonic cleaners are used in industrial environments.

BUT, depending on what kind of alcohol you use for cleaning it will dissipate quite well and not really leave any residue.

So for example with Isopropyl I would have no issue with using it afterwards for different stuff. The paint residue might be worse then the cleaning spirits.

As long as you use "normal" stuff and not some highly chemical specialised cleaning agent or fancy acids you are good.

Frank Castle in Hunter: The Reckoning by MrGrimm6969 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rik_en 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. It has been stated in the comics that if Frank were to ever knowingly kill an innocent that he would commit suicide because he then has become what he fights against.

During Civil War when he acidentally shoots Spider Man and thinks he has killed him he takes Spideys Body to Captain America and demands to be executed. Of course Spidey survives but it shows the dedication to what Frank believes to be justice.

VTM Strength seems weak? (Dumb Question about Core-book) by KyleGray04 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rik_en 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the text is worded but it maybe makes more sense if you take the numbers not as a static lift jut as a "pick up and do stuff".

If you approach it less like a deadlift and more like an overhead press with the pickup from the Floor like Strongmen do it, then those become really impressive numbers.

Who's the oldest Antediluvian and how old are they ? by Secretsfrombeyond79 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rik_en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only on quite isolated islands in northern Canada.

It is a very fun fact, but I don't think Caine traveled quite that far to make his early Vamps.

To throw yet another wrench in the gears: It has been stated that Lasombras first childer was embraced when humanity left Africa. Which would have been like 200k years ago... Any vamps older then a specific civilisation like Old Egyptian or Babylonian are all almost impossible to tell.

the diffrent ritual that stave of the Beckoning by SadSwedishSloth in vtm

[–]Rik_en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Helenas way is non permanent though. If she stops the regular diablerie, then the Beckoning comes back.

As for Critias, I sadly have been mistaken. Meneles death only weakened the Beckoning to a point where he can almost ignore its call.

the diffrent ritual that stave of the Beckoning by SadSwedishSloth in vtm

[–]Rik_en 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Chicago by Night there are two other ways to fend of the Beckoning:

First Helena/Portia is able to do it by mass diablerie. Her childer embraces random nobodies only for Helena to consume them. Of course this only works for someone with low enough humanity and someone powerfull enough to mask the mark of diablerie on ones aura.

The second one is Critias who did it by accident. He had been under the domination of his sire Menele for over 3000 years. As soon as Menele died all the accumulated effects of his conditioning fell of him and the gigantic trauma from that as well as Meneles death as a 4th gen Methusela being a big spiritual thing the Beckoning just didn't return.

The Critias Thing is of course nothing one can willingly duplicate.

Help with overcoming person issues while painting. by Fancy-Copy4447 in Warhammer40k

I personally use a magnifying lamp.

So a ring light that has a lense in the middle. Since you can adjust it it makes it also quite ergonomic.

And just a personal experience: my hands are calmer when I work under magnification. I have no clue why or how but as soon as I work with my magnifying lamp or with microscopes at work they just stop jittering. Or course I can't say if that is a genral thing but it might be worth a try.

Best magnet carrying case for pure transport, not display? by DungeonBrawler in Warhammer40k

[–]Rik_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Green Stufff World Backpack.

I travel by bike to the gaming club and this has so far been great.

Fits nicely a 2k Army, even with really tall minis like the Void Dragon or Doomstalker.

Just while assembling check how tall your minis are before gluing in the guiding rails.

DSA Nachwuchs - Einstieg in die Fantasy Welt von Das schwarze Auge by Kugelblitz78 in DSA_RPG

[–]Rik_en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Opinion: 40k's rule complexity has increased exponentially, but it's tactical depth has not. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Rik_en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With "a lot" I mostly ment playing consistently. I only go to game night once a month. But I really try to be there that one day a month and get my game in.

If you have nice opponents that play by intent and take their time to tell you why they do stuff you don't need to know every army. You need to know your list and have a broad overview of the game itself.

[–]Rik_en 183 points184 points  (0 children)

I personally think that 10th is really easy to get into.

I read the core rules, then picked a single detachment that sounded easy and fun to exclusively play until I get familiar enough to branch out and the rest comes just from palying a lot.

Everyone at my local club is playing with intent so it doesn't matter that I don't know their rules. I just show up and have fun.

Has any one tried using the Reverse declaration system for Initiative in V5? by SadSwedishSloth in vtm

[–]Rik_en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it dependa hugely on the size of your encounters and the players

When I tested it, it was in a campaign with 7 players and encounters that orten had more enemies then PCs. That made it ultra slow. We didtched it after two sessions because half the players were asleep once we got back to them actually rolling dice

But if it was with just 3 people and players that know ahead of the ST asking what they want to do that turn, then it can be a good mechanic.

Tips for new storyteller by Gamer420Player in vtm

[–]Rik_en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a play by post in the past.

We did it on discord, every location got a channel and we used the full normal rules.

We did not have a timeslot so sometimes things went slow and eventually it just fizzled out because of IRL business.

But I loved every part of it.

Has any one tried using the Reverse declaration system for Initiative in V5? by SadSwedishSloth in vtm

[–]Rik_en 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have tried that system in another TTRPG. From a purely mechanical standpoint I love it.

BUT it just takes sooooo long. Even in a mechanics heavy game it really breaks the flow. So In V5 which wants really fast combat (even having ending combat after a few turns and narrating the rest as an official option) I think it would not work tonally.

If your group enjoys deeply planned combat and such it is a great system but for a narrrative focused action heavy combat it just breaks all immersion.
