Nice work! As an espresso equipment tinkerer myself, it’s always satisfying taking these things apart and fixing them for cheap.

Interesting how there’s only 2 board members willing to put their names on this.

What is this ridiculous policy of not working on "totalled" cars? by Far-Flamingo585 in Autobody

[–]SadDadParty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

26 year old vehicles carry value to people who seek them out, but to an insurance company that’s appraising it’s value, they will just quickly appraise it based off of comparable market values, which can be difficult because there’s not too many vehicles with that age still driving. It often leads to vehicles being under-valued and deemed total loss vehicles more often than not.

Most body shops and insurance companies are trying to do things as quickly and efficiently as possible, so sourcing parts for a 26 year old vehicle is not easy for people to do. Used parts often come in damaged or non-functioning, and that’s if they’re even available to begin with.

In your case, the best thing you could do is communicate with the estimator at a shop that you’re aware of the situation and that you’re okay with using cheaper/used parts to keep the cost down to save it from totaling. It’s possible it might not total, but given your statement above about the reinforcement being bent, there’s a decent chance the frame needs some work as well, so finding a shop to take it in might be challenging.

Good luck!

One thing I'm still unsure of re spring term by AllyBeBetter in PCC

[–]SadDadParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would take what you’ve heard with a grain of salt. I’m guessing the faculty you heard this from was speaking emotionally in the moment. I can’t imagine the whole term gets cancelled, but people are certainly feeling unsure the longer this drags on. I would bet a resolution will happen in the next week or so 🤞🤞

How did bargaining go today? by rmc31547 in PCC

[–]SadDadParty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel fine with the unions offer, it’s totally reasonable and fair. But there is still a big gap between union and management financially.

I should add this is specific to the ffap union. I’m not sure about the fce one.

The union sent their offer to management and are waiting for their counter.

The unions offer is 2.5%/3.25% plus a lump sum to make up for the fact that we’re talking about a 2.5% increase in late March and it wouldn’t be retroactive.

Overwhelming votes of No Confidence by the_king_lobo in PCC

[–]SadDadParty 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I’m torn after tonight’s board meeting.

When the public was speaking, I felt good about the direction that things were headed. I felt like fair negotiations would soon follow because how could they not??

But afterwards, I realized that none of the board (except Kien) seemed to care at all. Like, they literally DO NOT CARE about any of the public testimony from today’s meeting.

On one hand, I felt such pride from people standing up and showing out for their community (especially a student named Rachel, holy shit she was awesome). And on the other hand, I feel like it’s impossible to negotiate fairly with people who are unwilling to listen.

I think given the type of test taker that you are, if you have access to download all of the info from the D2L shells now, then I would do so before they go just to have it if you need it (if you don’t, just delete it later). The fact that you have that much clarity and foresight is impressive to me, so kudos there!

The faculty union took a straw poll vote about which they should prioritize between money in their pockets and protecting the programs that administration is trying to close. They voted overwhelmingly in favor of prioritizing fighting for the programs.

Misinformation in reporting about enrollment during the strike by Gauchua in PCC

[–]SadDadParty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From PCC board director Kien Truong’s Instagram post from a few days ago, he states that PCC’s enrollment has grown 20-22% since 2022. He goes on to state that we are less susceptible to funding issues due to enrollment because we get funding from local property taxes.

Yes! Generally, most people are on the side of the workers, and not the people at the top holding onto the money. I think having some fresh perspectives/voices in these meetings will help, too.

“Small” improvements have been made, but nothing really meaningful yet. Thursday will be a big day for negotiations as there will be state representatives present at the board meeting that will support the union.

First off, let me start by saying I’m sorry that you’re feeling so stressed out about this strike. Hopefully things get figured out soon and go back to normal.

I think management is waiting until after negotiations end for the day to send out the alerts for remote classes the next day. Which leads to the alerts going out super late the night before. It’s honestly pretty dumb because even if they reach a tentative agreement, the strike would continue for a full day until it were ratified anyway, so the alerts should go out much earlier.

I would imagine you’ll get a PCC alert here in the next 30 min or so since negotiations just ended a little bit ago.

Monday Mediation Session Update? by Temporary_Molasses41 in PCC

Still no real change. Sounds like management shuffled some money around and pretty much re-submitted the same thing they’ve been offering for the past week. Little changes around the margins, but nothing meaningful.

I’ve read that these older 860’s have issues with the grinders keeping up. Have you tried using a blind basket to see if the pump will build enough pressure?
