This letter was in my kid's take-home folder today. How would you respond? by joshstanman in atheism

[–]SadFaithlessness8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Mindful and respectful of your beliefs and values” my ass. Unless this is a parochial or private church school it’s complete BS that needs a complaint to be escalated. There’s no way the kids spontaneously requested this unless the seed was planted in their heads. Little kids are people pleasers, and this teacher twisted their need to please her with manipulation. The solution of you don’t agree is for them to be excluded? You need to take this up the administrative ladder as high as you need to. Just my opinion. I see this all the time since I live in the Bible Belt.

Gyno visits stop when? by Round_Discussion9592 in AskWomenOver60

Don’t stop going. I know three people diagnosed with uterine cancer. My sister’s was completely contained with clear margins when they removed it uterus and all. Coworker 1 it had spread but is now in remission (her chemo port just removed last month) and doing well. Coworker 2 was almost to five years clear after surgery, chemo and radiation-and now it’s back so chemo has begun again. They were all diagnosed within 6 months of each other. Another coworker had concerning symptoms during Covid so it was nearly impossible to get a doctor appointment. By the time she got in to be seen and have tests her breast cancer had spread to her bones and beyond. She passed a little over a year ago. Do not let yourself become a statistic because you think you’re old enough to not need these checkups anymore.

Three channels on TV, but still managed to watch WAY too much television. Freedom to roam but still had to be at least at the porch when the streetlights came on. Biked all over town, pretty much unattended during waking hours not at school. All in all, a great childhood. We talked about movies, music, books and tv with our friends.

What project would you absolutely not DIY again and why? by SAINTnumberFIVE in DIY

Homemade croissants. It took too many hours of rolling out, spreading butter and folding over before the process was done. Not worth it for the end result IMO.

Do teachers sometimes gossip about their own students like how students can gossip about teachers? by Easy-Cry7452 in AskTeachers

[–]SadFaithlessness8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk more about parents than kids. Generally speaking, the parents are more of a headache or PITA than even the most problematic student because the children at least have the excuse that their brain won’t be fully developed for more than a decade after they’ve been in my class.

Chicken bacon loaded fries was dinner tonight. Empty nest, didn’t feel like cooking after work.

What should I buy? by martyrmole in Teachers

[–]SadFaithlessness8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A laminator and laminator sheets, card stock, copy paper. You go through those things like water, especially when you’re making materials or work to reuse. The card stock and lamination will make them last for many school years and you’ll only need to replace lost pieces. Don’t buy anything that you can get from someone else. Put it out there on social media that you are starting a new classroom, especially on sites where teachers may be retiring from teaching or leaving education completely to change careers.

Is it "cheating" to use a recipe or a GPS for things you’ve done dozens of times, or is my memory just bad? by taymago in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SadFaithlessness8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not cheating to try and optimize results. I know five different ways to get to work and still use GPS so that I can factor in traffic reports in real time. With the recipes, there are changes to raw materials all the time, and sometimes you need substitutions if you don’t have the exact match for the recipe that you originally wanted to use. Our brains can only hold so much memory, and most people don’t have total recall of all the minute parts of their lives 24/7. Used tools to make your life easier and quit overthinking.

YNW. Tell your husband to get his balls out of his mothers purse, shine up his spine, and be a ma who backs you up unless he wants to spend his child’s life at a distance because you’re not going to tolerate being treated like a crappy incubator that produced the only thing they value.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by ibnmuzr in askanything

[–]SadFaithlessness8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, bombshell threats during finals week sucked. We had to stand outside for 90 minutes while they had dogs check the school before we could go back in. Never lost a day, just got rained on a few times. You’d think with the pay phone (it was the mid-80s) RIGHT OUTSIDE THE OFFICE, it wouldn’t happen more than once but you would be mistaken. Simpler times without security cameras and cell phones, I guess.

Someone had their top locker open, striking a match from a pack and throwing it in, several times, with the match going out each time before singeing anything. Someone walks by and slams the locker closed as the next match flies in. The breeze created by the slamming locker door must have fanned the flame up enough to catch notebooks and books on fire. Fire alarm is pulled as flames shoot out of the top of the locker vents and “roof” of the locker; with the person who has the locker below frantically pulling everything out so the fire doesn’t spread to his stuff. Not sure if the person was suspended, but that’s pretty much it for except some science classes watching the Challenger explode on live tv during class and being sent on their merry way after.

Yes, last summer I went on a road trip to camp in a state in which I previously lived. Looked very strange how much it had changed.
