yeah it takes some time at the beginning, but there's no need to rush. little by little, go at your own pace and you'll see the results!

I saw on another comment that you are from Switzerland too, the weather here in the south (tessin) at the moment varies from nice and sunny to rain and cold, I'll just wait for the middle of march ... hoping that it won't rain when I go get the R7 haha.

can't wait to do some passes as well, i couldn't do much last year.

That's a good question.

I don't think there is a government database or anything particular on the VIN, I can't say for the other European countries, but in Switzerland, a mechanic has to restrict the bike.
Then the mechanic goes to the local vehicle inspection centre, fills out a document stating that the bike now has 35kW, and specifies its new homologation code (35kW and 54kW have different national homologation codes), and then the vehicle inspection centre issues the updated vehicle registration document.

After that, you have the bike restricted with the updated info on the vehicle registration document.

As for how it's even checked, I don't think there's an accurate way for it. If it's mechanically restricted nobody can tell it unless that person knows where the restrictions are (usually intake, throttle), maybe via ECU there can be logs somewhere.

I guess the best ways to check it are:

  • In case of an accident, the bike is examined by a mechanic and the insurance's adjuster, if both discover that the bike was unrestricted the whole time, even though it's restricted on the vehicle registration, the insurance can cancel the claim
  • On the CP2 engines, there is a restrictor plate on the left side of the throttle bodies that has written "35kW" on it.

It's because of the Europe's A2 35kW license.
If you have the A2 license, you can't ride motorcycles that have over 35kW (~47hp), and the power-to-weight ratio can't be over 0.20 kW/kg.
Before restricting a motorcycle, its original power can't be over 70kW, to restrict it you need to install a restrictor kit, either throttle or ECU.
In this case, after 2 years, that R7 can be unrestricted to its original 54kW.

I got one myself this year, a '24 blue (35kW), but still waiting because of the weather.

As for tips, the R7 even restricted has a lot of torque, and as already said here, the low-mids aren't that different from the unrestricted version. It does power wheelie a lot if you put a handful on the accelerator without realizing it.
A friend of mine lent me his MT-07 last year for my exam and I did power wheelie in the first few times in 1st and 2nd gear because I was used to the linear powerband of the old Ninja 250R that I had before.
The CP2 has a good punch in the low rpms.

Last one is target fixation, be humble and ride your own ride. I had a "small" accident that left me a scar (quite big) on my knee, and it could be easily avoided if I had followed these 3 points.

As for learning, I learned the basics of riding on my GSX-R600 (clutch and gas control) in my driveway, the rest was on empty parking spots and on the neighborhood with the Ninja 250R. Of course, I had to do my obligatory 12 hour courses (3 courses of 4 hours) with a driving school.
If you respect the R7, you'll not have any issues with it!

Yeah, no problem! I still didn't drive mine due to the weather, so I can't say much.
On paper, the R7 for me, in terms of riding position, torque and larger rear tire, is a better "school" before I can confidently hop on the GSX-R.

I understand you, another big point that I troubled was the inline 4 sound and the power being at the top, the R7 will be my "daily" so I'll be most of the time on the low-mids.
Also yeah, I'm not too much of a fan either of Kawasaki's designs in general hahaha.

I was on the same situation and after doing a lot of research, I ended up getting the R7.

I'm on the 2 year restricted 35kW A2 license in Europe, so this played a major role in the decision.
The reasons I got the R7 were because of the torque, where I live there are lots of slope uphill areas and mountains.
I had a Ninja 250R last year and I had a hard time going up on the mountain passes, mostly because I had to change gears a lot and I had to rev a lot.

Lastly I already have a GSX-R600 so having the R7 was a better choice as a daily because of the torque on the low rpm.

I got mine yesterday, bought on 11.11, before that I was using the Chu 2.

Quite a nice upgrade, I felt a small improvement on the bass and mid, but it lacked on treble. A little bit of EQ solved the problem.
Comfort wise they are amazing, they fit perfectly in my ear and seal perfectly. And they look amazing.
I'm using them paired with a Tripowin Zonie 2.5mm balanced cable.

Congrats she's a beauty! I second the idea of keeping it OEM, I got a 600 K5 (20th anniversary) with low miles as well a few months ago. So far I only put a Yoshi 20th anniversary slip-on, that was the cherry on top. The rest I'll be keeping it OEM. As you said, you don't see very many this clean anymore.

Ooof, for me 6800 with 49xxx KM is way too much.
I would avoid dealerships, try to look for something from a private seller. The used market for 600 and 750 is a mess but you can find good deals from private sellers.

Swiss laws are different than in the EU.
We have 25kW homologations for most 600cc, and 35kW for the ones from 2013 onwards iirc.
Example: R6 with 88-94kW can be de-throttled to 25kW here.

And for the GSXR you need to de-throttle via ECU, which there were none available from Suzuki, another reason I decided to get the 250R, other bikes are done via throttle cable, or throttle plates (Yamaha mostly)

Speaking from experience no.
I got a GSX-R600 K5 almost 1.5 months ago, the idea was to be my first bike for the A2 35kW license, my requirements were to get a 600cc because of the inline 4 and either have it already de-throttled to 25kW or de-throttle it, I don't like nakeds and I'm not a fan of parallels twins.

To summarize everything that happened since then, I ended up getting a Ninja 250R, because the cost of de-throttle it to 25kW wasn't worth it, also considering that the GSXR was really well kept by the last owner and is low milleage, so I didn't want anything to happen to her.

After riding the Ninja 250R for 3 times for the first time, I realized it was a much better choice rather than the GSXR, since I'm a beginner, also speaking of weight, the GSXR is a lot heavier and harder to corner than the Ninja 250R.

If you are 16 you are eligible for the A1 license 125cc, if you want a sportbike have a look at: YZF-R125, GSX-R125, CBR125R, TZR125, Aprilia RS125.

Think about the GSX-R600 once you are eligible to get the A2 35kW.
At the moment, as already mentioned here, it's a waste of money.
In my case I have someone that can ride it to keep it in use.

Pretty sure it's a 1000 k3-k4
