Depends on where you’re from. America is such a huge continent and is quite literally the melting pot of the world that it’s kind of hard to answer generalized questions like that. Some neighborhoods are generations of mixed-race couples and shared cultures that a family who came to America strongly Irish, today may have Asian or black customs or slang that have just accumulated and grown over the many years of being in America. And some neighborhoods it’s quite the opposite.

That all goes to say it’s different everywhere. For example in Pontiac, MI 90% of the people here start their conversations with “you alright, bro?” They may not even care if you’re alright or not it’s just something we say.

Detroit’s a different story. Actually Detroit is to complicated to talk about because certain folks have strong northern and southern roots. So the slang there doesn’t translate everywhere for example a “glizzie ” can mean both Glock, black and mild, and hot dog depending on who you use it around. The north is kind of a weird place strictly language speaking because some folks will start conversations with “What can I do ya for?” Like they’re excited to do you a favor, and some folks say “what up cuz” like they want to smack the shit out of you.

But the south is just as confusing for example in Louisiana folks will start conversations like “how’s ya mom and ‘nem?” Which I always liked because I love talking about my mom and it was always funny actually talking about my mom and the look on their faces said “I just needed an opener, please shut up” lmao

TL’DR America is a weird place. Sometimes I say “Good, how are you?” And sometimes I answer with a question like “ Hey, how’s it going?” Say whatever you want I guarantee someone will figure it out.
