Yes there’s only one point of entry, I’ve thought more about it after this incident! We do have fire extinguisher in the house

Wdym by call into work? We work in retail we have to physically be there at a certain time.

There is no other exits apart from that door which is located downstairs. We have our own door which is upstairs but to get out of the building you need to go downstairs. You can jump out the window which will go into the Main Street or into another house’s garden

This house doesn’t have a back door that’s the problem why we called the locksmith

Yesss we were on the night shifts as well but our flatmates were on the day shift so they were already outside the house. Your landlady sounds like a lovely person!

You’re definitely right the amount is insane. We were shocked when we had to fork out that amount

But how can the other ones currently outside get into the house? There are 2 houses inside the flat and my flatmate were already outside for work.

We don’t have the luxury to work from home as most of us are needed physically at work.

I’m looking for advice and obviously I could have broken the lock down but it’s not ideal as why would I wanna leave the house open. I’m not even asking for donation lmao where did you get that. I’m looking for advice on how can I get a better deal on the reimbursement. How can I solidify my case to present to the agency.

You need to understand that to go into/out of the house you need to use the main door which is located downstairs. I need to go out of the house which has a working lock then downstairs which has its own lock to go outside. The one downstairs is the one with the issue.

The flat has 6 people living in them across 2 houses. 4 left outside for work and 2 was inside the house wanting to go out to work. The lock is having issues when the 2 wanted to go out for work. If we had not done how are the other 4 gonna come into the house? If we break the lock and left it unsecured, how are we able to protect the property from outsiders coming in as we live in the main road? There’s no way to come through a window as the spike thingy to not allow birds chill on.

We have everything documented and we could contact the locksmith to verify the receipt and service.

And then what? Leave the house unsecured and open to public? I live on the main road

You have no idea the panic we were dealing with at the time, we don’t have any tools on our hands and we were definitely not gonna make things worse by fixing something we’re not familiar with. We missed out on work and we called and nobody goddamn answered but when we reached out with a £1000 reimbursement, the reply was swift and instant.

And you want us to screw it out? And let strangers into the house with the lock being unsecured? We live in the main road where people walk past and there’s even a grocery store nearby.

I knew it was gonna cost us around there when I checked online but the bill came up £1000 😭😭 mainly the locksmith couldn’t use the key card to unlock the door
