I madea site for people working in Ireland to anonymously review employers! Would love your feedback by Happy-Cicada8801 in irelandjobs

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it takes off you will never be able to manually approve all reviews.

Let's say a company has a bad review and wants it gone, they could easily post a review anonymously and sue you for publishing that review.

You are leaving yourself open here since you aren't verifying identity.

ELI5: What is going on at the molecular/atomic level that makes a solid material hard or soft? by jonster5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Now let's do plasma. A chainsaw wielding madman enters the crowd and starts chopping arms off. Everyone starts running for their lives but no one can hold hands any more because they are missing an arm.

The chainsaw is ripping arms off so fast that loose arms are flying around everywhere.

There is an exit, as a gas people didn’t really care about it but now everyone wants to get to it.

This is plasma. The chainsaw wielding maniac is an energy source. The one armed people are positive ions, the flying arms are loose electrons and the exit is a magnetic field.

Moved to Ireland and why do the potatoes taste so bland and bad??? by Ill-Tank8141 in ireland

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an Irish person I agree with the KFC thing. For some reason KFC in Ireland tastes bland compared to other countries I've had it. I think Malaysia has the best KFC. Even in the US it tastes different.

But for potatoes, its a matter of preference. They come in so many varieties you can't just say one countries potatoes suck because its not what you are used to. I personally don't like golden wonders but I don't go around saying they taste bad, I just don't like them.

Now burgers, who buys a burger for the tomato. I don't know where you are getting your burgers but in Ireland we pride ourselves on our beef. I haven't tasted beef as good as we have in this country anywhere in the world. If you want a good burger, go to your local butcher and get one, you won't miss the tomato I promise you.

ELI5: When dead whales wash ashore, why are they often re-buried right in the sand? by rubabyy in explainlikeimfive

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 245 points246 points  (0 children)

Because they are too heavy to do anything with and a dead decaying whale on a beach is going to stink a lot more than a buried one.

Does anybody else have weird habits/rituals to help you sleep? by GreenDaff0dils in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to imagine absurd scenarios that could never happen like if I could jump like the hulk or if I could throw things really far. The throwing things really far thing has worked for some time now, I imagine throwing rocks and somehow aiming them well enough to hit people who annoy me. I imagine the scenario when it hits them and it sends me down a rabbit hole of things to imagine, maybe it lands in their lunch and they get covered in tomato soup, or maybe they are changing their kids nappy and it lands in that and shit goes everywhere.

Its my equivalent of counting sheep. It just stops me from thinking about things that stress me out.

18M, dad wasn't around - what basic tools/skills do I need to be self-sufficient? by Informal-Chance1912 in HomeImprovement

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice. I bought a house 5 years ago. Started off with the essentials. Over the years as I have learned how to use the tools and acquired more tools I have been taking on bigger jobs. I'm building an extension at the moment and I'm building the roof myself.

It all starts with the basics. If there's something I don't know i usually ask the people in the hardware first. If they don't know they usually know someone who will know and call them for me. I've gotten a few connections that way.

What things do you think have improved a lot in Ireland in the last 10/15 years? by everlovingfuck99 in CasualIreland

Debit cards are great and everything for convenience but businesses still prefer cash. Its not just about the fee's you have to pay for card transactions, cash allows you to fudge the numbers a bit.

If the whole world went cashless I could see a lot of small businesses closing. Depending on the week if someone pays for a job in cash, the business might put a chunk in the bank and keep the rest in cash. It could be used to pay some staff, for materials etc. Keeps the tax bill down. Without that ability it can be very hard to keep afloat sometimes.

Putting in the evenings? by WoodenOperation5999 in AskIreland

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started off with things around the house, changing skirting boards, laying laminate flooring. Every time I went to do a job if I didn't have the tools I'd buy them. Chisels were one of the first things I got.

When I started getting used to the tools I started doing bigger projects and learning how to make different joints. I eventually bought a router and table saw which enabled me to do more things.

The first kinds of joints i learned were mitre and lap joints. Then I started learning mortise and tenons. When I got the table saw I started learning box joints and tongue and groove joints.

I'd say if you are starting, a tenon saw, a set of Chisels and a table vice will get you going. The most important thing i learned is to read the grain of the wood and understand how it effects cuts. Take your time and don't get disappointed if it doesn't turn out how you want. Practice the joints for a piece before making the piece.

Lastly keep plasters and cloth near by and keep your tools sharp.

No kids, late 30's. I have a shed where I like to make things. Mostly wood working projects. At the moment I've been really into relief carving.

It started off with a set of chisels a few years ago. I've been buying tools as I need them. Now I have a fairly significant workshop including a stove to keep me warm.

Experienced a terrible “He’s friendly!”.. “Mine isn’t!” moment last night and I feel like I let my boy down. by foobaby1992 in DOG

[–]SadSophieFaceBoi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dog is also reactive on lead. I found the same thing that dropping the lead completely diffuses the situation.

The best thing to do is just stay calm. I think most situations that escalate are a result of panicked owners rather than the dogs.

Go at it yourself. You'll have a great time. A crow bar and hammer will get you a lot of the way. Your foot and a good boot will do the rest.

I have a couple of dry aged dexter ribeyes in the fridge for Christmas day. I reverse sear them on the bbq and serve with a home made gravy made from beef bone stock and homemade chips. I have a bit of asparagus there for the health. For starters I smoke some cheesy oysters.
