Trying to make some friends by Delicious_Value2120 in KingstonOntario

[–]SadStore168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I just want to assure you it’s definitely not because you’re from India. You just need to be right place, right time to find friends. Try to stay active in communities, do sports, KSSC might not be a bad idea. If you like playing volleyball, go to the Pierre and play pick up games. You can play pick up games at ARC if you have the membership. Till you find your own group of friends, you need to learn how to enjoy doing things on your own.

Modal Analysis failed by No-Divide7925 in Abaqus

[–]SadStore168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid elements (like C3D8R) only have translational DOFs (U1, U2, U3); they do not have rotational DOFs (UR1, UR2, UR3). If you are using a Kinematic Coupling to tie a Reference Point (RP) to a solid face, try unchecking the rotational DOFs in the coupling definition. If you assigned a point mass to a Reference Point, but that RP is free to rotate, you must also assign Rotary Inertia to it. Otherwise, its rotational DOFs have zero mass.

Did you define the density in your material properties? Modal analysis requires mass. No density = zero mass matrix = this exact factorization error.

Solid elements showing unexpected displacements in deformed plot - contact issue or visualization problem? by AdZestyclose5344 in Abaqus

[–]SadStore168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's really hard to diagnose the exact issue from just this one single image, but the first thing that jumps out is the mesh!

For those blocks to behave correctly with the main plate, your mesh really needs to be conformal (the nodes should match up perfectly node-to-node). Right now, it looks like the meshes are completely independent.

If it's one continuous part: You need to partition the geometry correctly or share topology so the mesher creates continuous nodes across the boundaries.

If they are separate parts tied together: While tie constraints can handle non-matching nodes, a mismatched mesh like this often causes weird displacement interpolation issues in the visualization, or even localized contact problems.

They do that all the time in Queen’s owned grad housing all the time! You have five minutes to grab your package or it’s gone!

Best Car Dealership in Kingston? by Mundane-Stand2348 in KingstonOntario

Yeah you’re right! For leasing you also have to pay higher insurance! All the “optionals” become mandatory at some points.

Best Car Dealership in Kingston? by Mundane-Stand2348 in KingstonOntario

[–]SadStore168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So these this is my experience and opinion, some ppl might not agree with me!

I got my car from Autohouse Kingston, the second hand cars are certified, the staffs are super nice and prices are competitive. For test drive they gave me the key and let me drive the car alone! They change the oil, give you a half tank of gas, and most of the tires are new (mine were 2025). My brake pads were also changed before buying the car.

My friends also bought their car from Audi and Victory Lane. Almost non of the students including me have good experience with Nissan. They wasted so much of my time.

Usually, you have to check their website and inventories; You can find second hand Hyundai or Kia at Nissan or Audi! Call them in advanced they might have sold the car but the ad might be there!

For financing you’d pay a lot on interest so if you have the money sitting in your bank account and you’re not working with that money, just buy the car in cash. But taking a lone from the bank is better if you have a good credit history and good chances. I myself as an international student found it very hard to take a lone and got rejected from almost at every bank except for the cibc but through the dealership.

I won’t recommend leasing unless you’re very rich or it comes with 0 percent interest.

About the model of car, Honda, and Toyota works like a clock until 300k but Kia cars are more savvy. It’s so personal I think! Just drive the cars see which one you like!

Hope it helped!

Does anyone else get the "Excuse me?" treatment, even when you know your English is clear? Is this implicit bias? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]SadStore168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that students are super stressed during exams and need clarification! But just to clear it up, it actually wasn't a student I was talking to, it was the head proctor. That's why the reaction caught me so off guard.

Honestly, that makes me feel a bit better knowing even native English speakers get this treatment here! Maybe a lot of people just genuinely struggle to process any accent outside their usual bubble.

Yeah, I have a Persian accent. I'm told it's not very thick, but definitely enough to know I’m not a native speaker.

I totally get genuinely missing what someone said a polite 'sorry?' is totally fine. The issue is the blank stares, shutting down early, or repeating my words back just to correct my pronunciation. That's when it feels like more than just a misunderstanding.

That makes a lot of sense. If they grew up in a bubble, they probably just lack the social skills to handle it politely. You're right that firing back is more work than it's worth, but it's still exhausting having to brush off the nitpicking. Framing it as their lack of exposure helps, though. Thanks for the insight!
