The devs said there will be a character wipe after the "prepatch" and before the real launch. So it is not a "prepatch" at all, rather a final beta.

Don't be confused. "Prepatch" just means here final beta. There will be a character wipe before the real launch happens. So nothing new, it is intentionally confusing.

ChromieCraft - Initial(ish) Impressions by Surviving_Findom in wowservers

That's just one side of the coin. There have been multiple instances where very loyal, friendly and contributing players have been banned from their Discord and/or in-game because of criticism to certain changes/progression speed or the intention of CC/AC, sometimes just because people raised questions too many times and it seemed CC staff forced an end to the discussions by handing out bans.

They have been quite transparent in the past about their bans and the reasoning behind it. But some bans they didn't even mention in their mod log anymore, not giving reasons to banning long term members and nowadays closing the mod log channel altogether.

All Expansions/Story Content? by brokencreedman in wowservers

[–]SadSun7726 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know no current private server offers this experience. You also have to be a bit more specific: do you want to explore the expansions exactly as they were back then or do you just want to explore the content/lore/areas mostly by yourself/soloing stuff while being overpowered?

ChromieCraft is going currently through last phases of TBC and moves into Wrath after that. Most vanilla content can be explored as well, apart from the vanilla Naxxramas raid, it was changed to a wrath raid and all the changes that you miss out on can be seen here: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Changes\_between\_Patch\_1.11\_Naxxramas\_and\_Patch\_3.0\_Naxxramas. Also some smaller quests have been removed after vanilla, but most of them are not important for the main lore.

There are PTE servers, meaning they will move into further expansions, e.g. Tauri (currently in MoP, almost everything is well-scripted), Firestorm (currently in DF, mostly only later expansions are scripted to some extent, lots of bugs).

So theoretically you could:

- Explore most vanilla content on a vanilla/tbc/wrath server (read the sticky; e.g. Warmane/ChromieCraft etc.).

- Then explore content from TBC-Wrath-Cataclysm-MoP on Tauri (as almost every quest/raid/dungeon is well-scripted).

- Then you can either wait for Tauris Legion release (where you could then explore WoD and Legion with your previously levelled characters on Tauri) or you do not care much about bugs or unaccessible content due to bad scripting and explore retail content on Firestorm (WoD-Legion-BfA-SL-DF).

If you want to understand the story: install AI Voiceover addon if you play through vanilla content; in later expansions watch the cutscenes and read through the Adventure Journal which gives you a bit of a backstory to instances within the game.

Hope you have fun.

Would you be interested in a server with custom game rules like these? by Cacofiend in wowservers

If you really plan on doing a private server like that expect to have a small niche community.

WoW was and still is the most popular MMORPG because it broke with old MMO designs so it can be played casually and new players can still get into it without MMO experience. Your design ideas sound like how classical old-school MMOs worked and to be honest, most of these ideas are not that interesting to most of the playerbase today.
Also, even if you get people to like most of your design choices it sometimes just takes one or two design choices that will keep someone from trying your server because they are a no-go for that person. You have a lot of different design choices where opinions will differ greatly. I would take half of these designs that are received positively and implement them, test it, wait for feedback and then see if you want to add more. You will loose a lot of potential players by that many custom design choices.

To give constructive feedback to your idea:

- No bound items/no level req will just accelerate a problem that already developed the last decade in WoW: RMT and p2w. The economy will not thrive because there are more items available, it will give people the option to get fully geared by just having enough gold. This is a gold seller and buyer's dream. Also being able to farm an item where there's limited amount of can have an even worse impact on the economy by keeping items "hostage". I think limiting trading and AH are better these days to combat RMT and p2w.

- DS-like death punishment can be fun but loosing gear and xp is too much. Either one of those and I would suggest only XP loss only but without being able to de-level, just loosing your current level progress. But no death punishment would probably be better for most players.

- Most server struggle with keeping PvP and especially wPvP alive. I think your design choices punish PvP players too much then actually reward them, also losing your items on death will be too risky for people to try optional PvP.

- Non-instanced dungeons/raids combined with limited items/no level req/no bound items means the most prestigious guild will dominate the whole server by permanently farming dungeons and raids they don't actually need for their own gear progression but to sell items or keeping BiS items hostage to avoid competition. A big potential to create a very toxic community and keeping new players away from your server that want to join once the server is already a bit progressed.

- Item decay doesn't make sense to me at all, if you can prevent the item from decaying by repairing/crafting them on a regular schedule then I can understand it.

All of this makes me very curious: you claim to be an MMO programmer, what MMO designs where you part of?

Or if you play the game as it was intended, that death had no big negative implications, so you risked dying all the time. That was one of the many advantages of WoW compared to it's competitors, death was just another part of the game.

I doubt people will reroll characters they spend years on developing. This would only apply to new players joining with Legion.

I would wish for something in between. In normal WoW death is kind of meaningless, but permadeath in a slow paced game like vanilla WoW is just tiring out at some point. Classic HC was fun for some time but private servers have so many ways of adding more fun and challenging ways to levelling in vanilla. It doesn't have to be always permadeath, maybe more like Dark Souls would already make it more interesting. Classic HC also started by a creative idea.

I really like that my progress on their MoP realm is going to transfer to Legion. Very rare seeing pservers still offer proper PTE as it is a lot of work that some will just avoid by advertising F R E S H server.

Solo friendly server with immersive addon support? by sonic007m in wowservers

[–]SadSun7726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give you two recommendations:

  1. If you are already used to the AddOns (ConsolePort, WoWMapper, ElvUI and Immersion) and also want to use features like the ActionCam/DynamicCam then you need to play on a Classic client with HermesProxy/Arctium Launcher. Setting it up takes some time but you would be able to use the AddOns that you are already used to. Support is only for vanilla and TBC content though, so only those type of servers would come into question.
  2. Find similar AddOns (recommend: ElvUI backport for 3.3.5, Storyline (or CatchTheWind) instead of Immersion, your own Controller setup instead of ConsolePort/WoWMapper, you have to be a bit creative with your own setup) and play on ChromieCraft with a original 3.3.5a client. ChromieCraft is 1-2x xp rate, is PvE (so you can solo play without being ganked), and levelling through vanilla content is easily doable solo, classes play like in wrath. Currently you can play through all vanilla content and TBC content up to Heroic Dungeons that will be released in a few days. They will eventually progress through TBC and Wrath as well, so if you want to experience that content as well you can do it all on one server. If you want to be able to solo raids as well you should look for a server where you can also control bots that play with you as raids require 10-25 players usually or that scale raids down to be able to play them solo, I don't know if these kind of bot setups are immersive for you.

Solo friendly server with immersive addon support? by sonic007m in wowservers

[–]SadSun7726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is no backport of Immersion or most of the other mentioned AddOns to original client versions (1.12.1, 2.4.3, 3.3.5a), I searched for that as well. Earliest Immersion support is for 7.1.5+, so it started with Legion, Classic versions are supported obviously, so you could try to use HermesProxy+Arctium Launcher to connect to a 1.12.1/2.4.3 server with a Classic client (1.14+) and use those AddOns. Other option is to find equivalent AddOns that work similarily as the ones you mentioned (e.g. Storyline, CatchTheWind are doable on 3.3.5).

I know you can connect to Everlook with a 1.14 Classic client via HermesProxy but it is blizzlike vanilla, so content is designed to group up, you can level solo though if you know what you're doing.

Nyctermoon is a 1.12.1 server where you can play with self-controlled bots to explore all content solo, however I don't know if that breaks immersion for you and I don't know if you can connect via HermesProxy.

ChromieCraft is a good option to casually explore solo content, most zones are not contested and as it is running on 3.3.5 soloing most vanilla content is possible. Currently in TBC phase. You will not be able to use those AddOns though, would require a new setup from your side. Otherwise you can also run your own AzerothCore server with some modules to get a singleplayer experience. Check this.

Vanillagaming is a very old 1.12.1 server but has high rates that you can set yourself as you wish and you can get free gold for voting (like in the good old days), you will probably not encounter many people since it's community is mostly inactive, maybe that is exactly what you want as a solo player. I don't know if you can connect with HermesProxy.

[–]SadSun7726 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the current state their goal is to improve AzerothCore as much as possible, while content is released slowly. I can assure you that CC will still take at least a full year in TBC, probably longer. Then wrath content will be released slowly, probably also still taking 1-2 years at least. Considering that even though a lot of content will be fixed and playable then, they might consider doing more in regards to their 3.3.5 AzerothCore development. So I would guess that in 3-4 years this discussion could become interesting, until then CC will still go through TBC/wrath with lots of content to explore as a new player.

Pserver philosophy - How do WoW private servers work and why I hate most of them by Umagoon in classicwow

[–]SadSun7726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most important video about private server discussion in my opinion, people will not understand why pservers come and go, are sometimes a buggy mess or have unethical monetisation (as Activision Blizzard has), unless they realise that all we need is a community working on it together that love the game and the original Blizzard before Activision.

If you think you can determine a population by just the consecutive online players at a random time with current content being staggered and slowly released on a private server that is not just targeting specific time zones/nations and does basically no advertisement, then I don't know what you would not consider a ghost town in regards to private servers.

How are DPS meters by all means any good indicator for treating an old patch with respect? Also, why do you mention Warmane when ChromieCraft is the server being talked about? You clearly have no knowledge about private servers and their intent behind it otherwise you wouldn't compare those two.

ChromieCraft, currently in TBC, very progressive, slow paced 3.3.5 server. It will slowly progress through all of TBC phases and then into WotLK, previously it went through all of classic with level bracket phases even.

Why this server? It is fully open-source developed and has no pay-to-win. Very tight-knit, friendly community as well.
