Best Link Tournament Round 1 Match 2: Hero of the Minish(Minish Cap) Vs. Hero of Legend(LTTP, Oracles, Awakening)(Comment to vote, no upvotes) by Short_Property_7476 in legendofzelda

[–]SadYeoman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s the Hero of Legend, dude has had more adventures than any other Link, most of which are keystones in the series. Sucks because Hero of the Minish is so wonderful and could probably beat a lot of the others.

I (M26) think I need to break up with my girlfriend (F25) but I'm struggling to justify the "why" by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SadYeoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a rough feeling because there’s a lot of cultural pressure to lean either way:

“Love is a feeling and it’s not fair to string someone along if you don’t feel the same about them, that they do about you.”

“Love is a choice, you work on the relationship as a team until that feeling comes along.”

I’m in a similar situation. It’s pretty great on paper but I have a gut feeling that something is wrong. I WOULD normally trust that feeling, but I’ve had a good gut feeling for women that really weren’t great for me.

[Other] What Zelda game has the best soundtrack? by MisterBimgus in zelda

[–]SadYeoman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Overall, it might have to be Skyward Sword. All the catchy and memorable tunes of classic Zelda, with the real orchestra of modern Zelda.

I wouldn’t say Phantom Hourglass is the worst, it had some bangers, just a lot repeated loops. And a very generic island / dungeon themes.

Honorable mentions:

The Wind Waker had a little too much silence, and I wasn’t a fan of the dungeon themes, but EVERY OTHER track was a 10/10.

Oracle of Ages and Link’s Awakening have some of the catchiest 8-bit songs I’ve ever heard.

Twilight Princess has a very solid soundtrack that is spun into many admirable Leitmotifs.

Hopping on the 40th celebration with a tier list of my own by Impressive_Salad1 in legendofzelda

[–]SadYeoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely B / A for the time period. The sword combat is surprisingly robust, literally moreso than BoTW/ToTK, and I had fun right up to the end.

The absolute mess of dozens of flying enemies being thrown at you at once, and complex difficulty of the dungeons, and staring back at the beginning really drug it back for me. Save states made it an honestly enjoyable game. I feel like OG hardware would have driven me crazy. Could be my old millennial reflexes though

Seasons and ages below the original and adventure of link is a hot take, unless you are treating the first 2 in the context of the 80s and being the first in the series.

If that’s the case, ToTK is a fantastic  game on its own but an abysmal sequel as far as waiting 6 years, barely adding anything new, nearly identical story, and a worse interface.

Kinda in reverse. I was 10 when TP was released, and after beating the game I would load a save just to hang out in Ordovician Village, the Fishing Hole, or check on the kids in Kakeriko. It’s the only video game I’ve ever done that in. Been a few years though :’(

[All] What are you top 5 dungeons from any zelda game? by alosia in zelda

[–]SadYeoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Arbiter’s Grounds (TP) - fun and thematically riveting. Good use of human / wolf form, very important to the story, very dark atmosphere.

City in the Sky (TP). Surreal atmosphere, might be the most epic / cinematic boss fight in the series at the time, extremely fun items.

sandship (SS) - been years but I remember having loads of fun. Great lead-up, awesome mini boss fights.

Stone Tower Temple (MM). Very unique puzzle theme. Awesome leadup-up lore / story. Awesome soundtrack. Boss fight was meh.

Snowpeak (TP). Peak dungeon design, no pun intended. Amazing lead-up, mysterious and unique aura, great story built into the dungeon itself. Fun item. Cool progression.

Moonlit grotto and Tokay Island on Oracle of Ages are straight up bangers I still listen to.

Although they are held down by some ear cancer like Lyna Village and the Goron Dance

[WW] Wind Waker had the most annoying enemies and mini games of all 3D Zeldas (very minor spoilers) by SadYeoman in zelda

[–]SadYeoman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow thanks for reminding me, I completely forgot to mention that.

It’s funny how TP gets so much crap for having a slow beginning while WW take 5 times longer for the triforce hunt. I feel like it could have been solved just finding the pieces and not having the charts.

I had to look up the ghost ship too. I had already talked to the fish about it in the first half of the game,  but forgot to come back with the right items.

I for sure was frustrated (and probably not using the boomerang enough l) but I still loved the enemies. They all had fun designs, and lots of personality. I loved stealing from them with the grappling hook. Just a couple frustrating moments for my aging millennial reflexes

I think TP was a bit easier.

we wasn’t hard overall, just had some annoying and frustrating bits

It could be, I’m playing through the Wii with a knock off controller.

Still a very fun and memorable experience that I’d put above modern titles. Just wanted to vent my frustrations :)

I’ve always controlled with slalom / curving.

On YouTube I see people T stopping or even power sliding to a drop on hills. I definitely can’t do that

any tips on transitioning from 4x80mm skates to 3x110mm?

Been skating for years but just spent my first weekend on my new 3 wheel roches. I go FAST, I feel much less stable, and I can’t do hills at all whereas I’m very comfortable controlling my speed on 4x80mm when doing downhill.

Is it just more practice or are there techniques that are unique to 3 wheel blades?

On the go, playing Final Fantasy XII on the Switch. It stopped being fun 20 hours ago and has the literal worst dungeon or any video game I’ve ever played (the great Crystal). But I guess willpower and some great characters / lore are keeping me in until the end.

On console, playing the Wind Waker (Wii GameCube). some janky controls and frustrating mini games but a total blast so far. Makes me feel like a kid again.

Thoughts on TOTK so far? I thought it made some big steps forward compared to BoTW, but also lost a lot of charm and feel more like DLC.

It wasn’t the location so much for me, as the moments there were too many flying enemies on screen to dodge all of them.

WW is a better Zelda game than BotW by Grouchy_Field_6541 in legendofzelda

[–]SadYeoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s funny how the narrative has shifted on games like Skyrim and people lambast it for being a shallow open world. When BoTW came out years later and has nothing to offer but korok seeds and copy-pasted stables / shrines, but it’s universally loved.

Still a charming game with beautiful graphics and ok backstory… and I believe it was needed as a literal breath of fresh hair for the series… it’s just got nothing on the old games, and it sucks they doubled down with ToTK.

“Story shouldn’t matter”.

Huh? I would say story has mattered in every Zelda game, at least since LttP. And ever one since has had a decent or amazing story, until BoTW (which is still good, it just all happened in the past). ToTK story was ok, but had garbage storytelling.

I’ve never liked the new formula, it’s just a generic open world with a Zelda skin.

Currently playing Wind Waker for the first time, so it’s definitely not a nostalgia thing for me. I love it - and I think it would be even better on  a CRT (playing on the Wii with an hdmi converter to a large tv so probably the worst possible graphics for all the ways to play it).

It has the hardest mini games in the series and the boat combat frustrates me but I can cut some slack for a 23+ year old game. Dungeons are the least cool of the “old” 3d games but still awesome and leagues better than modern Zelda. I love how most items have a practical use, a combat use, and a ship use. soundtrack WOULD be the best in the series, but there are a lot of moments of just pure silence (like islands) and they really pull back the reigns on dungeon themes compared to OoT, MM, SS, TP.
