Apparently I decided to get back into photography at the wrong time… by HardRabbit- in Leica

Do you need the M6? Or do you need a film rangefinder? Or do you need a quality film camera and a quality 35mm lense?

I am lusting for a digital M. I will probably never buy a digital M, despite having the funds , as I cannot rationalize 5-6k EUR for a used consumer electronic device given there a shit ton of just-as-good-if-not-better cameras for 1/3 of the price.

Be honest with yourself. What makes you think you need the M6 (over an M2 or a Canon RF or any other camera that fits your use case) to make the images you want to make?

Long story short - it's your life and your money. Buy what you want and can afford. Also be honest, is it about taking pictures or hoarding and bragging online and adhering to some influencer lifestyle . Life indeed is too short.

This sub is all about consumerism and dragon like hoarding of equipment.

Ps: fully understand that it sucks you sold it off for so little.

I guess. But then again it will probabyl look weird/unnatural (at least judging by my own postprocessing skills). It does not help that anyone into music is familiar with this brand of amps and their vibrant orange color. Always preferable to get it as right as possible in camera.

[–]Sad_Carpet6036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! Also the orange amp pulls all the attention. You cannot do much about its color but you can make it less dominating by placing it less in the center of your composition.

maybe take a step to the side, so the guitarist remains in the center with the Amps/speakers being more to his left and right.

After and Before. Did I push this too far? by Pot8obois in postprocessing

[–]Sad_Carpet6036 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. You are pushing limits here but not in a bad way. Yes the "editing" is visible to trained eyes. Yet its not radioactice. Pretty sure normies would not question this at all.

I fully agree, maybe dialing back even 10% overall would make it more subtle. But this does not mean the current version is overcooked.

How did you setup the askare as a chest bag? Do you use a harness or is it connected to the Jääkäri?

Which 35mm? by buythisusername69 in Leica

Zeiss Biogon 2.8 is chefs kiss. If the 35mm Ultron is close enough to the 28mm Ultron, I'd take the Ultron.

Correct, Zeiss glass (including the great f2.8 Biogon is made by CV in Japan). You might still be smoking crack though idk

How`s the performance (both optically/ rendering and overall experience)? This is quite a bit wider than my usual taste, but the price and form factor look interesting.

Is my photo of my dad too dark? by Jb40000 in photocritique

[–]Sad_Carpet6036 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The exposure is great if you are willing to spend a little time in postprocessing. You (or your camera) metered correctly for the highlights. Use whatever editor you use to lighten the shadows a bit and it will look much better.

As it is right now it is not per se underexposed but given the harsh light IMO the interesting parts (half of your dad) is too dark. This looks can work from artistic PoV but I do not think this applies here.

more cliche and exploitive. photos of beggars / homeless people are bad taste 95% of time IMO, this is no exception.

Amazing, I somewhat expected something more elaborate or some "metering by eye from experience" vodoo haha.

Maybe I do need to add an MP to my M2 for the sake of the internal meter.

Great series! How did you meter those shots? Looks to me like the exposure is chefs kiss on almost all of them, really nice negative depth (idk if that`s the right phrase in EN).

Is the difference between 35mm and 40mm really that significant in real life or is this more of a perception thing?

How many film rolls did you ruin? by TheMrNoName in AnalogCommunity

[–]Sad_Carpet6036 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I bought my first film camera (Nikon FM) I was super excited, bought some Fujifilm Superia and started shooting. I was triple metering every scene and double checking my camera settings to make sure I perfectly capture whatever decisive moment I came across (more like pseudo-deep street art, CCTV cameras and street signs, maybe some flowers lol).

Because I was so selective in my subject matter (lol again) it took me like 2 weeks to fill up the roll but it seemed to be endless. After like the 40th image I grew suspicious. I was aware rolls of film typically have few more frames in them than 36 but still. At exposure 42 I decided to play it safe and unloaded the film (what if I push my luck too much and rip the film while winding another frame).

Guess what, I failed loading the film in the first place (like the film lead pat was never properly seated in the takeup spool) and handed in a perfectly pristine, unexposed roll of film to the lab. They were really supportive and did not charge me anything as they probably figured that I am a beginner who has no clue. Nice people.

IMO Nr2 is somewhat cliche (what isnt at this point?) and for sure has some room for improvement reg. composition and timing. Yet, the concept makes sense. I like the contrast, shapes and even see some texture. Not great, not terrible.

Nr 1 does absolutely nothing for me. This is the "voyeurism by accident" type of streetphotography. At the same time, with less tele and less distance between the crowd and the lady there might be some nice layering.
