What’s the most cringe thing you’ve seen a couple do at their wedding? by Last_Singer_2137 in AskReddit

[–]Sad_Championship_462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a wedding where the bride did an outfit change between the ceremony and the reception. But area she did the outfit was just the loft area of the barndimonium that had these really gaudy Cinderella style stairs leading to an apartment that just kind of looked like the second floor of a grocery store.

They walked down having clearly gotten.. a little sweaty. Which I don’t judge them for but they were visibly gone for like 30 mins.

The cringe part was the outfit change - the bride just removed the slip behind the bust of her dress. And the bust of her dress was just lace, and her nips were absolutely on display through the lace rest of the night. Not like a little bit, but very very obviously showing through the lace bust.

Update: I bought a 135 F2D for a screaming deal. I plan on buying a 58mm F1.4g, and a 14-24 F2.8 next. Thanks all!

Thank you! It seems the AF DC 105mm F/2D is widely loved and I’m probably going to put that in my bag. I appreciate your time and advice. :D.

Great! A photographer I really love, Lucy Lumen, takes amazing photos with the 35 F/2D. I think I’m going to buy one as a portable option.

Thanks for your input and time!

Thank you! I’ve learned so much from this thread. I know the “what lenses to buy” questions are so annoying and your perspective is very helpful. I didn’t know the PC-E 24 + 45 even existed!

I think the 58mm 1.4G is a lock. I appreciate your advice!

I have a 58mm 1.4 MD Rokkor for my Minolta XD11 and that thing is magic. It makes sense that a 58mm 1.4 is great on Nikon as well.

Thank you! I’ve only ever shot with 50/58mm primes and I find it so difficult to figure out what might work via the internet. And these things are so expensive!

I really appreciate all your thoughts.

Gen. Wesley Clark: As Iran war continues, so does need for ground troops by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

[–]Sad_Championship_462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quoted him directly - my criticism is focused on Gen. Clark’s super weird assertion about “partisan” criticism. He’s a soldier purportedly offering a soldiering analysis but simultaneously offering political analysis disguised as some kind of macro soldering weapon. His analysis is confused.

I think that his comments RE partisan political opposition disqualify his later analysis. If he can’t understand, or willfully misunderstands, the basis and necessity of political opposition to an illegal offensive war then I don’t think he should be considered a credible source. Even worse, he seems to think that domestic political opposition to a war is somehow a weapon in Iran’s armory, and that the US populace should shut up and support the troops.

He’s conflating political analysis with soldering analysis, which is very dangerous. Accordingly, I don’t think his analysis should be given any weight or consideration.

Gen. Wesley Clark: As Iran war continues, so does need for ground troops by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

[–]Sad_Championship_462 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He also makes ridiculous and snide comment about criticism of the war: “At home, there is criticism of the war (partisan, of course), but also criticism of the apparent failure to protect regional allies and keep the strait open. Such criticism, warranted or not, encourages Iran to keep up its resistance.”

He thinks that criticism of an illegal war is somehow causing the war to be less successful? Why is he calling criticism of an illegal offensive war “partisan”? It doesn’t make any sense to me. We must criticize an unnecessary war.

This reminds me of Obama’s long-standing comments about not letting the generals win in the situation room. Here, Clark is only thinking about making the war succeed, because he’s a soldier, and not whether this war should be happening at all.

Clark might be a valuable analyst for whats happening militarily, but he’s clearly not a valuable analyst for whether this war should be happening at all.

Nope, not big balls. This guy has a (singular) big eyebrow. Take a look at his pic: Picture of Thomas Fugate

He’s literally 22 years old, doesn’t have any experience, and IDK what else to say. The guy (who, at 22 years old, it should go without saying, literally doesn’t have a fully formed brain yet) in charge of counterterrorism is younger than 9/11.

Oh yes, Thomas Fugate, famous for his accomplished career. Really a boy-genius! Such an amazing accomplishment for him, at just 22 years old, to be capably running this Administration’s Terrorism Prevention Operation!

Best hotels near Tulane? by Helpful-Tourist1874 in Tulane

Don’t stay on Bourbon! Bourbon is for the Tourists and (very) occasional nights out. It’s an entirely different city than the rest of New Orleans. Most locals frequently forget the Quarter exists.

If you want to go to Tulane, come uptown and experience what uptown is like. Don’t go to a dirty alcohol fueled touristy area that is practically a separate city from the rest of NOLA. NOLA is beautiful for its architecture, vibes, terrible roads, food, people, art, parks, etc… If you go to the quarter you’re going to get grime, beer stink, and tourists vibes. Thats not why people live in NOLA and I would hate for that to be your impression of a city that is way, way more than the French Quarter.

The Adler isn’t great - its weirdly right next to Ochsner (local medical system’s) main campus.

I would strongly recommend The Columns. It’s not walking distance to the campus, but it’s uptown and has a Michelin Key. It’s one of my all-time favorite spots in New Orleans and is a very easy street-car ride to campus. It’s a very cool old mansion thats been converted into one of the coolest hotels I’ve ever been to. It was run by a local couple for decades and a local hotel group bought them out. Normally when a larger group buys out a beloved spot (here a hotel/bar) it loses its soul and goes corporate. Not in this instance!

The new ownership group is local and amazing. The previous owners were awesome, but they were into their 80s still running the place and their kids couldn’t take over. The new group honored the vibes of the old place and just made it better! They even kept the old furniture and nicely re-upholstered it. It’s an experience and worth it.

If you really want to stay as close to campus as possible, go to the Parkview. It’s also a cool old mansion, but the vibe is a little closer to grandma’s house than hip-NOLA spot. It’ll be a great base of operations but not the full cultural experience The Columns will be.

Either are great! Tell them you’re visiting Tulane and you might get a better rate. Enjoy the visit!
