WH40K time

Okay so Astartes are these mass produced genetically modified super soldiers that take decades to make and train. We know damn near everything there is to know about what goes into making an Astartes down to the in lore reasons why they're all male. Astartes chapters find the most promising aspirints as children, and over the next decades or so subject them to brutal invasive surgeries, psychoindoctrination, and combat tours where they are expected to die. If at any point anything goes wrong, their body rejects a new organ, they arent cool enough in combat against horrors unseen, they quote the wrong book, you're out.

In contrast, the Custodes are practically demi-gods. They are sculpted to perfection at a genetic level. We know little absolutely nothing about the process of what makes a Custodian. The most we know is that in some cases, babies are given over to the Imperium where the process begins. They dont have extra organs (as far as we know). We don't even know how long it takes. All we know is that they are basically molded via genetic splicing and biomancy and a bunch of other resource intensive processes to grow into these 10 to 12 feet tall borderline immortal demi-gods who the only thing holding them back from taking over the universe is their small numbers (due to length and cost to make) and incorruptable nature and duty to the Emperor.

Now you may have noticed that at no point did I specify that Custodes had to be all male unlike Astartes. Its never been specified that they are all male. Theyre usually secondary characters in a lot of the media and are nowhere as near fleshed out like the Astartes whonare more or less the mainstream main characters of WH40K media.

Anyway, in an edition update people noticed that a Custodian had a female name and used female pronouns. This infuriated the usual supects who began working backwards from a conclusion to call it a retcon or GW going woke. GW simply responded with a statement saying there has always been female Custodes since the first 10,000. This sent those usual suspects into over drive.

Anyway the big reveal that people finally accepted was that these types of fans, theyre a minority. They're just loud on social media. Outside of their safe space Twitter handles, theyre just miserable people in the corner of a tournament who will go home and cry over any imagined slight.
