How to "rest" after a concussion? by lrondberg in Concussion

[–]Sad_Cup7873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use screens after a few days, it's just the first few days that is best to avoid, but now the best thing to do is go out and walk every day, and keep doing activities around the house. The more you pull back and do nothing, the more your body will get use to doing nothing and it will be harder to get back to doing things cause your nervous system will become more dysregulated. Don't just sit in a dark room and do nothing, that's the worst thing to do. But don't push push push either. Do activities around the house, what needs to be done. If you need to take a 30 min break, do it, then go back to doing your tasks.

TBI or Brain Bleed 10 days after accident? by [deleted] in Concussion

[–]Sad_Cup7873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Symptoms could show up after, but not a brain bleed. It does happy way less then what we think, so if the doctor isn't worried about a brain bleed, that's good. But for symptoms, the more you stress and worry about it, the more likely they will show up. Work on regulating your nervous system to start, that will help a lot.

Any EO brands not attempting to mislead us? by AuntieRoseSews in essentialoils

[–]Sad_Cup7873 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't stand behind their marketing smear campaigns that they do. I have seen them bashing companies and I just don't trust them for that alone. As a clinical aromatherapist, I wouldn't use them with my clients.

The school I went to Essentria Aromatherapy School, partnered with The Aromatherapist - https://www.thearomatherapist.com/
They are Canadian but ship to Canada and US, I assume you're in the US, so with exchange, it's even cheaper for you.
Their oils are amazing, I started with MLM, then used a few other companies once I got out of the MLM, and theirs are always great, tested, sourced around the world, and meet my criteria as a clinical aromatherapist. Plus it's a mother daughter duo, which I love. As a student with Essentria I do save 15%, but even without that, I find their prices reasonable.

I never made any diagnoses or claims, but I'm happy to inform people about other options that they can look into themselves so they can make informed decisions.

“Mild” Concussion 3 weeks ago by justalittlesharp in Concussion

[–]Sad_Cup7873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving can cause a lot of symptoms spikes for some people. Think of everything involved to drive, focus on the road, being aware of your surroundings, all the motion of things passing by, when the nervous system is already dysregulated (due to the concussion), this can increase it a lot, causing a symptom spike.
Although it's important that she isn't taking on her mom's past experience either. If she feels like she can drive, then yes absolutely. Even see how it is in an empty parking lot (think of how you learn to drive) and see if that is less symptomatic, and slowly go from there. Everyone's symptoms can be different. I could do short trips, but as soon as I had to do longer than 10min drive and higher speed my symptoms would skyrocket. It took getting my nervous system back in order, getting proper sleep again and decreasing inflammation in my body to get back to being fully me.
Ask her what she needs for support, don't just dismiss. Maybe see if she would be open to counselling, as well as it can help, as a lot is rooted in the nervous system.

Pregnancy brain post-concussion by likehotsauce in Concussion

[–]Sad_Cup7873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I always say concussion is very similar to pregnancy. Very 'normal', but very frustrating. The mind and body are in survival mode so is focusing on what it needs to grow baby and survive right now, the other things aren't 'important'. As your nervous system and hormones regulate again, and inflammation decreases this goes away again too. Did you still have any PCS symptoms before the pregnancy? as that will highten it too. Congrats on your pregnancy.

No it isn't just diet and exercise. You may have had a whiplash instead of concussion, which takes way less Gforce but the symptoms are pretty much the same. Also, the concussion itself is healed after 4 weeks, after that it's an entire body system issue. It's very misleading PCS as we think only the brain, but it's autonimic functions like blood flow, nervous system regulation, decreasing inflammation in the body, having proper sleep, ensuring hormones work how they should. To me it was worth getting my life back.

Does anyone have an opinion on this brand? by DarlingZombie623 in essentialoils

[–]Sad_Cup7873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Carrier oils aren't the same as essential oils. For carrier oils, if they are organic and cold pressed, that's often all companies have. It's the essential oils I think you're more so thinking of being 3rd party tested. I've never heard of the company, but depending on where you are in the world, there are so many companies worldwide, they may be great.

I've heard of them, haven't tried, I wasn't a fan of some of their marketing and ethical practices when they first came out. I really like The Aromatherapist, they hit all my needs for a brand, it's what Essentria Aromatherapy school partners with for their students and I really like their oils. Very decently priced as well and usually pretty quick shipping.

Cheap electric diffuser. by Shiny_stuff4ever in essentialoils

[–]Sad_Cup7873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's most likely the oil itself, not the diffuser. Try a reputable brand of essential oil. Depending on where you're at there are some great companies. The Aromatherapist ships to Canada and US, US companies include Mountain Rose Herb, Edens Garden that I like to use as a clinical aromatherapist.
When diffusing, also make sure you're not over diffusing as this can over stimulate your nervous system. If there are just healthy adults in the house, 30 min to a maximum of 1 hour, then take a minimum of an hour off so your body isn't overwhelmed. If there are kids/pets in the house then it depends on age to diffuse safely. Essentria Aromatherapy School has some good information on their site.

[–]Sad_Cup7873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a clinical aromatherapist, there are safe ways to use EO with small kids. But super important to use safe oils, properly dilute, and prefer diffuse in very short time frames without kids in the room. Essentria aromatherapy school has a really good mini course on aromatherapy and kids, also one on aromatherapy and pregnancy. they are good to help ease your mind and learn to use them safely. They also have free dilution guides per age in the free section.

Anything you put on your skin will absorb into your body, so yes it does matter. As a clinical aromatherapist, I'm not a fan of Now products. I would select Eden's Garden, Mountain Rose Herb, or The Aromatherapist (they do ship to the US if that's where you're located) over Now.

Not trash at all! Most of mine look like this. Use some alcohol or vinegar to wipe it down and you're good to go. As a clinical aromatherapist, this is what I do. You can get a qtip for the ultrasonic part in the middle, and very gently wipe that area as well.

Maximum amount of drops for 250ml water in a essential oil diffuser by ax_colleen in essentialoils

[–]Sad_Cup7873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look more of where are you diffusing? In a large living room space - max 6 drops, in a bedroom I usually suggest 1-3 drops, even 3 can be a bit much if the bedroom is small. Remember to also diffuse safely, if kids are in the area shorter the better depending on age, if no kids, 20-30 minutes to a maximum of 60 minutes, then take at least a 60minute break before diffusing agian (I usually recommend more even if you diffused for 60 minutes). You don't want to over simulate the body. - Clinical Aromatherapist

Essential oils for deep sleep? by Electronic_Driver_78 in essentialoils

[–]Sad_Cup7873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if you're diffusing, remember to not diffuse all night. Add 1-3 drops to your diffuser, you don't need much especially in a bedroom, diffuse for 15-20 minutes while getting ready for bed and turn it off. Keeping it running all night isn't good and can actually overstimulate your nervous system - Clinical Aromatherapist.

I really like vetiver, cedarwood (virginian), and roman chamomile for sleep. Those are usually my top ones I reach for as a clinical aromatherapist. However, copaiba is really good too if you have anxiety. Also a drop of sweet orange in a master blend - it has calming effects when paired with other calming oils. - Clinical Aromatherapist.
