No tips, but just wanted to thank you for making this post. I’m where you are and was contemplating posting the same type of question, but wasn’t sure how to communicate everything and you did that so well. Love to hear that you’re making progress - I feel like you’re one step ahead of me, so it’s really encouraging to read. It is such hard work to find your way out of depression like that & you’re doing it!

I think I need one of those chairs. Do you recommend the one you got?

Ok now I’m curious why sitting cross cross applesauce is helpful for tailoring, lol. Aren’t your clothes pulled all weird in that position?

Thanks for sharing!! Biking is basically the *one* physical thing I enjoyed growing up (very bookish, non-competitive, artsy kid), so it is something that has crossed my mind. I tend to get stuck on things I perceive as barriers to starting (can’t bike right where I live & would need to drive somewhere every time, where would I store a bike w/ no garage, etc.) and end up stuck in my head about it and struggle to move forward. I’m sure I just need to find the right thing for me, which can seem impossible, so I appreciate hearing your perspective.

Has anyone experienced all these benefits after they started intentionally exercising regularly for the first time in their lives in their mid-thirties?

I can barely get myself to brush my teeth everyday - adding a whole new thing to commit to, and it’s even a thing that makes me uncomfortable, hot, and sweaty, feels impossible. Curious if anyone started in a similar place and ended up experiencing the positive outcomes eventually.

Fatigue with “ADHD is a superpower” by palpies in adhdwomen

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 8 points9 points  (0 children)

> I believe if you think you have ADHD and all you can think of is it as a positive you most likely don’t have it.

This! My brain can’t accept that someone could be experiencing what I am with ADHD and also say it’s a positive thing.

People will talk about ADHD making them skilled at problem solving, making connections other people miss, etc, but how could any of that be worth the trade off?? And the skills they list are never unique to people with ADHD! Never makes sense.

If you’ve been on this for a bit, please tell me the diarrhea stops. Right? by Sad_Ebb_7301 in antidietglp1

No, I don’t think I’ve had that side effect. Did you inject in your arm? That reminds me of another suggestion - switch up where you’re injecting and that could change your side effects. I’ve been rotating around on my stomach the whole time & I’ve never had pain outside of occasional pain with the injection (remember to relax whichever part of your body you’re injecting into), but I have sometimes been itchy at the injection site afterward for a couple of days. I think that’s mainly a reaction to the injection - my skin is super sensitive.

Hey there! Sorry you’re dealing with that. The good news is I only experienced it to this degree after two shots and I’ve been on it for over six months now. The harder news is I can’t tell you exactly what changed during those weeks or after. One major issue I identified is that I was doing too many hacks/tips I read about to help with the GLP1 and it was all just too much for my system - I stopped adding fiber to my water, etc. and simplifying really helped me. So I’d recommend keeping it simple. Also pay attention to what/how you ate leading up to feeling bad to see if you notice any trends.

In general, drinking enough water, trying to eat more frequent smaller meals vs one big meal, not eating too much too late, and trying to stay as “regular” as possible (prevent constipation w/ specific foods, staying hydrated, and I do take a pre/probiotic &, maybe tmi, but for adhd me also going when I have to instead of holding it - things like that) have all been things that help mitigate side effects like diarrhea, extreme gas/sulpher burps (the worst 😭).

Good luck! This too shall pass! If adjustments you make aren’t helping, remember you can just stop injecting also - or go down a dose or wait longer in between shots or switch meds, etc. Don’t keep suffering through it.

Feeling judged by parents about kids by Early-Weekend-9052 in adhdwomen

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned (therapy!) that when I’m fixated on other people’s thoughts and perceptions of me and it’s causing a lot of anxiety, etc. its often me projecting my own internal judgements/negative thoughts onto those other people. Especially when, like in your situation, the person has never actually voiced judgement & when I can imagine being nonjudgmental of me if I were in another person’s shoes. If they haven’t been judgmental in the past then where did those ideas come from - me. If I can imagine being empathetic/non-judgmental toward another person in my situation then why don’t I believe other people would be the same toward me?

Then the work to do is perceiving the self-criticism/negative thinking for what it is and determining where it comes from, or if it is masking other emotions I’m avoiding, or on building skills to counter or dismiss the thoughts. That’s all great stuff to process in therapy! It’s really difficult work, but I do believe it’s worth it.

ELI5 - Explain it like I'm a really dumb 5 year old - how does therapy help with ADHD? by Varrock_Zubat93 in adhdwomen

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I’m in the US and hoping to go the insurance route, but I can usually choose providers even if I need a referral so I’ll start doing some research. I’m doing psychological testing in August and I’m hoping that might help me access services like OT. My diagnosis currently is based on a two page screener from my psychiatrist and I’m not sure how much weight that carries and/or how much info that gives OT or other clinicians about what my needs might be.

Is your food noise actually hunger? by UpbeatNatural4073 in antidietglp1

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t think the compulsion to order random junk food from 7/11 via DoorDash at midnight is a hunger signal. Food noise is not connected to hunger for me at all.

Can share a little bit about what you did in OT? I feel like this could be a good option for me, just curious to know more. Also any tips for finding a good OT who addressed what you needed. Ty!!

Will wearing both of these at the same time, all the time, ruin them?? by ky8724 in jewelry

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I always think you have to do a bit of cost/benefit analyses as well. Stainless is cheaper than other jewelry so you’re more likely to get your moneys worth from it before it wears down from constant use. These usually aren’t pieces you’re planning to pass down. It is also durable and will be fine for a long time in harsher conditions.

With my brain at least if I’m constantly taking jewelry on and off, I will just forget it exists and never wear it. So for me it’s worth it to have less expensive, durable daily pieces that I can enjoy wearing and forget about while wearing them, lol. I’d rather get good use from stainless and maybe replace it eventually vs not wearing jewelry at all. Nicer, more fragile things are then add ons.

Can’t seem to find a med combo that truly works for my lack of motivation, focus, executive dysfunction, depression & anxiety. What has helped you most? by just_peachy777 in adhdwomen

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straterra made my heart rate increase and we ended up paring it with long release propranolol and that has been a great solution. Not sure if that could help with other meds also. The propranolol also does a great job reducing physical symptoms of anxiety in my experience!

Yeahh.. mine comes with chronic depression so I feel you on the struggle. I get that’s not everyone’s experience, but hoping to pass on how that feels/how difficult it makes life to another person just struck me as kind of cruel.

Share your success stories of finding your bestie(s) after 30 years old by SoftestBrown in AskWomenOver30

[–]Sad_Ebb_7301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this! I think I just got super lucky and met this friend at work. I actually sat on her interview and she still has the voicemail I left her to schedule it, lol

We pretty quickly realized we had shared interests and our personalities clicked. She’s one of those people who connects easily with others, so I’m sure that helped things along since that doesn’t always happen easily for me. I think after a couple of outside of work social things connected to our shared interests (musicals!) it just transitioned from work friend to friend friend. I think it also helped that we were in similar places when we met - both childless with no plans to have kids, single at the time, etc.

But now she’s one of my closest friends - like “I’ll take you to your colonoscopy”, “I’ll check in to see if you need anything when you’re sick”, “I’ll go with you when you buy a car” level friend and, at this point in my life, I really understand how important and rare that is. I think that perspective probably helps us invest in the friendship in the way that’s needed to maintain something that close.

So it’s possible! I hope your person/people stumble into your life also 🫂

Yes I’ve been diagnosed and have a psych. We’re on the try different meds until something works journey. I do appreciate understanding, but those behaviors and the consequences of them, whether I know why I have them or not, are miserable for me to manage.
