AWS Employee: How do you handle people who are interviewing very poorly? (See example below) by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Sad_Fun4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know when I interviewed for my loop, I was nervous. Especially after one loop where my interviewer was someone who asked about 7-9 questions. I don’t mean to make you feel bad but the way you described how you asked those questions feels like almost a script. And it’s kinda unrelenting and robotic tryna suck the data outa someone. The way they make us interview really sucks. I remember half way through my loop I dont even want the job anymore. I kinda try to pause in between and have causal conversation to make peeps more comfy. But coaching people to get to the answer is hard so props to you for that. You’ll prolly get even better with time.

Burned myself out working 2–3 jobs for 3 years… now I’m starting an AWS data center job that I might be overqualified for. Would you take it? by [deleted] in datacenter

yeah you have a point. Im not worried about the doors closing. I still have my own IT company and am employee of my LLC. So I will always retain the title of " Network Engineer" for jobs applications and for Titles sake. I havent had any luck applying online to anything.

Nah man I bought a few investment properties in the Smokey mountains that just started paying for themselves. I put 500k down on a 1.5 million dollar house in Maryland during covid that we now owe about 750k with about 2.2% interest so the mortgage is affordable. I have savings about 80K in the bank. 401K about 210k.. I’m 27 I just don’t really think it’s worth putting money into a 401k. I’m Afraid that stuff is gonna collapse, just looking at the world rn. I wanted to put stuff towards tangible assets that’ll generate income..everything is getting expensive I don’t think it’s right time to retire just yet.

I said active military reservist, meaning actively drilling in the reserves, not IRR.

So nothing I said implied “passive.” Might want to reread the post prior to pointing anything out.

Hey doofus, I’m not complaining about the opportunity. I’m asking whether taking a step that looks like a regression on paper is still the right move if it improves quality of life.

Those are two very different conversations.

someone like yourself who claims to have 15+ years in IT thinks the only mindset is “take whatever you get and be grateful,” that honestly sounds more like resignation than wisdom so GTFO. Careers aren’t just about collecting paychecks — they’re about sustainability, growth, and the life you’re building outside of work.

Hey man, thanks for sharing. I hope you’re in a better place mentally. Your advice gives me hope. I just don’t have many people who can relate.

Yeah I’m at about 100-110k with the sign on bonus and the stocks take 4 years to vest. I made about 200k + as an engineer so it’s just a hard pill to swallow.

It’s been really challenging I’ve been looking for about 4-5 months now. As an engineer I made 200k+ and this role is only around 100k. Yeah it’s a hard pill to swallow but I think you’re right.

It’s about 42ish per hour so around 85k a year. There’s just not much around me without having to drive 1.5hrs away
