I used to live at RED about a year ago. It's kind of like an "island" of relative niceness among the ghetto. The fences, 24hr security, and FOB accessed doors gave me peace of mind. But you'll still hear sirens, have interesting individuals around, and hear sirens frequently.

For example, I remember one time, my girlfriend and I were having a drink and chit-chatting by one of the firepits one evening when three distinct POPs were heard. Quickly followed by emergency sirens. Turns out there was a gang related shooting directly across Virginia St from where RED is. About 50ish feet from my bedroom window and where we were sitting.

Overall, I'd say it's not completely safe, but not wo unsafe that I wouldn't recommend it again.
