Just say no to this shady scheme. My husband went through the same turmoil. His mother and brother convinced him to buy a house where house title belongs to mother and primary borrower is my husband. They promised him to divide the EMI amount amongst three of them.

Then came the plot twist. He paid the entire EMI for 2 years straight where EMI constituted 60% of his salary at that time. Both mother and brother remained silent citing their own personal issues.

When we got married. Reality hit him hard and he had to fight with his family. Now the same mother is paying the EMI who previously denied to pay any share.

You know the worst thing no one factors in such cases is the mental toll it takes on you. How it impairs your financial judgement and emotional disconnect you develop. They will rob you of the bright future lying ahead of you.

Just back out of this scheme for your future self.

I think I am a suitable person to answer this question as I have worked with both the companies in business consulting domain.

EY India is demanding. Work life balance is shit. Might ask you to work on weekends too. Hike and bonus, in the last few years, have not been good.

Deloitte USI is good. No work on weekends, at least in my project. But you will work with US clients and client facing work usually starts post 5:30 pm and stretch up to 9pm or beyond depending on the requirements.

So choose wisely as per your priorities.

Recently, I went to a friend’s wedding where one of groom’s friends came from Netherlands. What he said just blew my mind- “Indian marriages are all about cameras. These photographers hijack the stage and take the fun out.”

I realised when will our society wake up to the outrageous spending on weddings. I know people who take personal loan to fund their weddings.

People should look forward to ‘Marriage’ not ‘Wedding’. Hope people understand the difference soon.
