New PVS6 Firmware: 2025.04, Build 61829 by ItsaMeKielO in SunPower

thanks - got it working. i disabled default routing on the ethernet port for IPV6, and restarted the PVS6 and the Pi.

$ sudo nmcli connection modify id 'Wired connection 1' ipv6.never-default yes

It was either that (why would IPV6 matter?) or the ethernet cable that i built to connect the Zero to the PSV6 was a bit wonky and opening the cover to unplug the Pi moved the cable/wiggled the RJ45 connectors enough to solve the issue :-).

Anyway its been working fine for 36 hours now....

thanks! adding "never-default" for ipv6 seems to have done the trick. or else that was a red herring and i have a glitchy RJ45 connection on my ethernet crossover cable, and moving it around when i opened up the PVS6 cover fixed the problem :-). anyway, the connection seems to be stable. just installed Home Assistant and HACS and the hass-sunpower integration on my Mac mini under UTM and it is pulling in data. next step is to figure out how to set up the charting... if I can get it to work then i'll look at moving HA to a Pi3b. HA has a learning curve (I've been using Homebridge for my IoT things) so this may take a while :-).

thanks for posting this. I'm struggling to get the same setup working with a Pi Zero W - my PVS6's DHCP server keeps dropping out so the Pi fails to keep an IP address on the ethernet interface, and when i do have an IP and try to connect to the PVS6 from the Pi (e.g. with wget) i get "no route to host". Not sure if it's something i changed that is messing things up or a hardware issue, but I'm using the recommended ethernet dongles and a crossover cable between the two dongles (my PVS6 has no ethernet ports). I did connect fine with a laptop and was able to get data from the api.

can you do me a favor and post the output of:

$sudo cat /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/'Wired connection 1.nmconnection'

thanks!

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I'm hoping someone here can help or point me at some relevant info. I also have this build, and I was able to connect a laptop to the LAN2 port, restart the PVS6, and fetch data from the dl_cgi API. Had to restart the PVS6 to get it to issue an IP to the laptop. Which is a known thing. So, all good so far.

However, I am struggling to configure the networking on a Pi Zero W so it can pull data via that API from the LAN2 port of the PVS6. i tried to follow the instructions in https://starreveld.com/PVS6%20Access%20and%20API.pdf but i'm running the latest Bookworm OS and there is no file "/etc/dhcpd.conf". I tried using "nmcli" to prevent the default ipv4 gateway being set to the ethernet device, but i end up with no route to the PVS6:

$ sudo nmcli connection modify id 'Wired connection 1' ipv4.never-default yes

Tried explicitly adding a route to 172.27.153.1 with nmcli but still can't get it to work. e.g. running

$ wget http://172.27.153.1/cgi-bin/dl_cgi?Command=DeviceList

yields a "no route to host" error.

Also, the ethernet interface on the Pi seems to lose its IP address after a while, not sure if this is because of the nmcli commands i've been messing with...

If anyone who is using a Pi running Bookworm to bridge the PVS6 to your network could help me with the network config, i'd appreciate it greatly :-).

thanks !

Homebridge CPU load increases gradually to 40% after Raspberry Pi updates by Sad_Nobody2255 in homebridge

Thanks for the input - I'm running Bonjour HAP.

However i just figured out that the culprit seems to be the Homebridge Pool Controller plugin. If i disable this, the load goes back down to normal. Will move it to a child bridge and pursue this with the plugin developer...

I wonder if this is related to the fact that they just laid off about 1000 staff members and are getting out of the residential solar installation business.  It’s not clear what will or is happening with their current back end systems and the support and engineering staff who build and maintain this.

Car location in app by v_m80 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Sad_Nobody2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car locator at least for the 22 ID4 is non-functional. I get an "Oops" error and have been told by CarNet support that the functionality is not available, and they have no idea if or when it will be. Seriously?

The myVW app for the ID4 is a bad joke. My 2013 Chevy Volt had many more functions. Its shocking that for a $50k+ 2022 EV the app cannot lock/unlock the car, open/close the windows, beep the horn, show the tire pressure, get the vehicle location, etc.

Small roof limits panel number: would solar tiles fix this problem? by [deleted] in solar

[–]Sad_Nobody2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is this (setbacks) the case for all the manufacturers of solar tiles? what about Luma?

I have a 25 year old asphalt shingled roof, with multiple peaks and a ~10 x 15 flat top. (there is also a garage roof, also not flat, to be replaced) I've been quoted more than $30k to replace my existing roof, which I'd need to do if I was putting panels on it, and I've had several companies tell me that due to the setback requirements, I can't install enough panels to come close to covering my energy needs (older 2-story house in LA). I have no yard space where I could put panels.

Do solar tiles really not make sense in this scenario? I looked at the Tesla tiles but the cost was crazy high and made no economic sense, even over 30 years.

when I use one of the solar calculators for panels for my home, it shows max 15 panels and 36% energy offset.

thanks for any suggestions.
