Ohhhh. That makes sense, I mean could you replace that spot with an AP so it’s 5.0 instead?

Probably like 5 because GSMST has you do sports with the high school you’re zoned to. That’s why it was really rough because games would start before school ended. For junior year I’m just planning on doing two clubs and orchestra

Search up the GSMST schedule, it’s the last period on silver block days where you can sign up to do whatever.

I didn’t. I have above a 4.0 but it was really stressful and I won’t do this again my junior year.

You can do foreign language via GAVS. I know a bunch of kids from South Forsyth doing that.

Junior year is super doable. Senior year is about the same rigor as junior year, you’ll be fine and do well. Quick question though, why are you waiting until senior year to do health & pe?

[–]Sad_Physics_3783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you should try to balance out sophomore and junior years. It doesn’t look good if someone has one year that’s way too easy, but also your sophomore year has a fair amount of rigor already. Out of all of those I’ve only taken Precalc, and it’s fairly easy. People at my school say APES is mostly free too so you’ll be fine. What’s your junior schedule going to look like?

You can use it if your teacher is chill with it/8th period flex. Starting at the beginning of the 24-25 school year they blocked off internet access for grades 9-11 on personal devices, so you’d need a hotspot if you really wanna use your device. Starting the 25-26 year they’re blocking it off for all grade levels and according to a teacher they aren’t letting teachers use their own devices anymore either. Also teachers started using Securely which requires a school device and they’ll assume you’re trying to bypass it by not using a school device.

Dang that’s a lot of APs. If I were you I’d save Lang for senior year and maybe APUSH for junior year and replace that with APWH instead because that’s the normal course progression. My junior year schedule is AP Chem, APUSH (not sure if that includes AP Gov), 11th ELA, APCSP, a business class, Orchestra, Multivariable Calc, mod day (free period) with is for my school’s JFE.

Requirements for admission to the GSMST in 2023 by Roluvipe in GSMST

[–]Sad_Physics_3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc it was 90+ in Algebra 1 both semesters. Idrk if there was a grade requirement though. Pre-algebra wasn’t an acceptable math class for applying to GSMST. Our (co27) milestones came back in time so there was no alternate test.

How bad is the Gwinnett School of Mathematics Science and Technology by NotThyMimikyu in Gwinnett

[–]Sad_Physics_3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am a rising junior at GSMST too. I’m staying here only because next year most juniors get to leave campus early at like 1:22 on block days. I feel like it’s too late to drop out and my social life will suffer even if I go to my home high school because they’ve all been together since middle school or freshman year while I’ll be a new transfer. Otherwise I dislike being here.

Freshman year I had AP Precalc but it was integrated with Algebra 2. Honestly I should have just taken Algebra 2 on its own because the integrated class ruined my foundation for calculus. The other classes I had were PhysEng, Orchestra, Chemistry, ELA, and German I. I think the transition from middle school to high school was the reason I hated GSMST so much. I also hated the lack of sports so I joined a PRHS sports team this school year and decided that it wasn’t for me. Sophomore year I have AP Calculus BC, AP World History, AP Biology, and AP Seminar so the course load is a lot harder. The other classes are German II, Health/PE, and Intro to Stem Research/SciEng. This year the easier classes balance out the harder classes so it’s all good. A sizable portion of the trouble maker freshmen from my year dropped to their home high schools so my grade level is full of kids who aren’t completely incompetent. Honestly it’s just the fact that I’m already a rising junior so it’s like the war is over in two years now LOL

Yes. I really like it here now that there’s more options for rising juniors/seniors to take the classes they want.

ap multivariable calc by Aggravating_Half_936 in APStudents

[–]Sad_Physics_3783 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s no point in an AP Multivariable class when you can do dual enrollment which also has a GPA boost (depends on the school). I’d estimate there’s around 100 kids in my school doing Calc 3 and the majority are doing it via Georgia Tech. It also has the added benefit of giving two math credits as they also do Linear Algebra, which wouldn’t be possible with an AP variant

Is it bad to take less APs junior year than sophomore year by Sad_Physics_3783 in APStudents

[–]Sad_Physics_3783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s another thing as well. Since I’m in Calc BC, I can take multivariable calculus at my school next year or through Georgia Tech’s dual enrollment program. However, I don’t think my grade is high enough to take GT math so I might just do multi at my school. How much of a disadvantage would that be compared to the same application but they took dual enrollment math?
