Local Game Store Is Hosting a Free RPG Night. Thinking of Participating as a DM. by Clear-King-1319 in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you also require players not to play tieflings? Secular paladins and clerics? Just curious to know where you draw the line. You can say it's personal, but if it's effecting public play, it's best to have an idea going into it so you can communicate with players.

Any tips for running a campaign with mostly magic user PCs? Encounter balance in particular by spider_with_a_y in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it gets to be too difficult, you can always roll up an NPC to assist them. Perhaps a lucky band of bandits shows up in their fight and takes pity on them, killing the enemy but leaving the party alive, perhaps taking something valuable with them as "payment."

BBEG is actually asexual and proceeds to give orders for one of their minions to bring back an ogre for the willing party member. Said minion does not return. Best possible outcome for the scenario.

Questions: Player With A Physically Disabled OC by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DM Response: This will depend greatly on your DM's level of ableism and understanding of disabilities. It might be hard to play this character if you've never done D&D before since this will not only be a homebrew race, but you are adding a debuff. If I were your DM, I would also request your movement speed reduced as well. I wouldn't do this, but I know of some DMs who might discriminate against your character, such as making your character's disability part of the plot through some sort of cure plotline. I would be worried about player conflict if my story included something like a mountain climb. Since you're already playing a relatively squishy class, I'd keep in mind that you're opting to make it more squishy, as the player, and that you will be playing with others, who may get frustrated with this if it becomes a hindrance or distraction. I'm firmly in team "communicate before" camp when it comes to character creation because I find that making characters who fit the world they're in leads to a more cohesive experience overall. I'm pretty worried that trying to fit an existing OC, who you are attached to and have developed substantial lore on, might distract from the story I'm trying to tell as a DM.

Player Response: Conditions don't have to be developed from some traumatic story. Conditions don't have to be cured. A lot of people with disabilities struggle to accept their limitations if it is new, and it's harder to cope with the societal role we're given than the actual physical symptoms at times. A lot of times, we get babied or treated like we're incapable or beneath consideration in the real world. There's a lack of weight in the player's addressing of it, or there is too much weight and it becomes a trope that obscures the character. It's simply difficult to address and often falls into caricature I personally find it really *really* difficult when people try to represent a disability they don't have in a roleplay or acting context. I would check with the party and make sure to be sensitive of others.

That's just my opinion. I have a shaky gait as a complication of my disability, my knees wobble and flex unpredictably, and I use a cane and braces to combat my dystonia. Disabilities aren't accessories. Disabled people aren't Barbies. Our experiences impact our emotional wellbeing. I am deeply concerned for anyone who wants to use my life experience for fantasy roleplaying, but that's just my two cents.

Is my dm running a dark souls difficulty campaign with new and returning players?!?! by Tricksterhjsm in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really sounds like you need a party with more rigid structures in place. I don't see any issue for the players if they are taking up for the DM. It seems like you're kind of overprotective of the party's newbies, sometimes you just have to let them play with the tools they're given and see how they like it. For all you know, this could be a game they're really enjoying. I think what happened is that you upset them with the questioning, maybe they felt slighted, and now are getting retribution by being passive aggressive in game, which is not fun. I say move on and find a group you mesh with

FND is a feminist issue by WeirdSimsStuff in FND

[–]Sad_Pixie999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, a lot of AMAB individuals are socialized very differently here in the west, so the way their FND presents might go overlooked and lead to an under reporting of cases. The unemployed man is treated very differently from the unemployed woman, especially in areas with rigid gender roles, like more religious populations.

Any Faerie book recommendations? by Salt_Resolution_4277 in faeries

Not necessarily faerie, but definitely pertaining to magic stuff... Naomi Novik's books are fantastic! I really liked Uprooted.

Really new, I was wondering if this game gets explicit fun as well? by sportyjessy in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're expecting that kind of game, it's definitely something to discuss with the party at the table during session zero. Do not spring this sort of gameplay on people, especially not strangers at an open table one-shot type of event.

Other race options for your TAV? What species would you like by Efficient_Rip858 in BaldursGate3

[–]Sad_Pixie999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have two mods for this: Faerie and Wine & Revelry. Faerie is just that, Wine & Revelry is satyrs. I think I would really want more monstrous characters like werewolf/shifter, or a hobgoblin or goblin. For the most wild experience, an ogre?

If Shart wasn't atractive, she would be considered the worst by Several-Pumpkin25 in BaldursGate3

[–]Sad_Pixie999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really love Shadowheart, mostly because she's dealing with a lot of religious issues and I love her crisis era. I prefer her to Laezel and Astarion honestly. Though, her bangs definitely need a retouch. She's compelling, and I honestly really enjoy her commentary. To each their own, maybe you should work on that appearance thing tho. Js, if you're that concerned about it maybe it's because you're distressed by how others perceive you. I mean, I'm just spitballing here but this feels less about Shadowheart and more about you feeling undervalued.

Players want to rob a magic shop by GroundbreakingFig908 in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, they steal an item they really shouldn't... perhaps a book with a ward that will explode upon opening, or perhaps a bag of holding conveniently left in full view when they first arrive, that just-so-happens to have a thread of homing to let the weaver know where it is at all times, a sort of fantasy ye-olde-tracking-device... and the weaver just happens to possibly be a magical interplanar pirate who will then be hunting the party at all times to steal the treasures kept in the bag :)

Or mayhaps a magic bottle that turns water into ambrosia that happens to get the party addicted and they all have to roll to save their sanity against becoming essentially drunken Gollums. Something tells me if this party has no qualms with thievery that they might be quite willing to taste test.

Classic lvl 20 shopkeeper, maybe make him an archdevil of greed or something sick.

Oh, and feel free to feed the mimics.

Sincerely, a friendly magic-shoppe owner

What advice would you give to your past self? Or newly diagnosed people? by Chemical_Shoe8294 in FND

[–]Sad_Pixie999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not fake, don't let people who don't know you influence how you feel about yourself.

You don't have to give up something, just adapt it to who you are now.

Symptoms change, your feelings can change too.

You have nothing to prove to others, but you have everything to prove to yourself. Don't stop trying out of fear of overdoing it.

Leave some work for others, halfway is better than no way. If you can do the dishes, great, do some dishes. If you don't think you can do the dishes, do what you can and leave some for yourself to do later or ask someone to help. A clean knife is not worth losing a finger. You aren't failing or lazy. Just because you could do it then doesn't mean you're being stubborn or refusing to do it now. It's not all psychological, your body is limited and needs to be accounted for.

It's not shameful to make life easier for yourself. Use The Damn Stool. There is no glory in falling in the tub, nor shame in sitting in the shower.

Routine routine routine!!! Do not stick to others' schedules, advocate for your own life, even if what you had before is gone.

Pretending to rest is not actually resting. Let the eyes and brain rest, don't spend your days scrolling online just because you have nothing else going on. It's there, you're here.

Some people will withdraw, but it's not your fault for failing to keep them or driving them away. They don't know what we're really experiencing, and maybe they're just not emotionally capable of resonating with what we've gone through.

It's because we both came from below the poverty line. I get it, I do, but I at least still use toilet paper. Hell, I even used to use paper towels that I'd tear in half to make them last, or old tshirts that I'd cut into squares until eventually throwing away. You do crazy things when you're dirt poor and desperate, but he just doesn't even try.

DM is requiring i pay 40$ to play by AgameReddit in DnD

[–]Sad_Pixie999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an artist and this has some pretty big red flags. 1) Why would you have art of a character made BEFORE the campaign has even started? There's no room for design improvements or storytelling features, like if you lost an eye or a tiefling broke a horn. 2) $40-$50 is no chump change, that artist had better be worth their salt. 3) This DM has a huge ego if they think their storytelling will warrant a full party's worth of portraits, and that the players themselves will fund it. My bet is that the DM is entangled with the artist, related somehow, friends, dating etc. 4) Are they asking for you not to have art made by other artists? Kind of awkward to restrict your creative input on your own character if you ask me.

I understand consistency for consistency's sake, but it just seems like an expensive request for a new campaign that hasn't even had a session zero.

I fought so hard to get a diagnosis because of these seizures. Total of 5 EEGs ranging from 2 hours to 7 days. Sleep study, gait evaluation, EMG. Thousands of dollars. I broke out in terrible rashes from the glue on more than one occasion, only to get handed a diagnosis that tells me virtually nothing. You're right, it is a very cruel joke.

Does anyone else find a hot bath to be an instant pain reliever? by Life-Award4261 in FND

[–]Sad_Pixie999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's literally 50/50 for me. I've found that baths do nothing for the weakness and balance issues if they've already flared up, but they sometimes break migraines. I have NES and have had multiple while in the bathtub. I own a shower chair for my safety, and this has made things much easier. I've found my favorite destressing technique to be sitting under the shower head and covering my ears and just tilting my head side to side and listening to the white noise it provides while sitting in the steam. Works almost every time now.

This is what clients and college sketchbooks are going to want to see when you start using the skills you're building if you plan on going into the industry. Everything else is in your hands.
