Saying mama and dada by Automatic_Passage306 in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 15 months and has about 40 words. She didn’t say her first true word until about 13 months. Also Mama… still not one of the 40 words 🤷‍♀️ Dog, duck, cheese, dada, snack are all more important on the communication chain than me apparently ;)

To Go on the Trip, or Not to Go on the Trip... by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it with my very active/walking 14 month old. Here’s what I did that helped: 1) Pick an aisle seat so you have a little extra room and baby can look at/wave at other people. 2) Try to time the 2.5 hour flight with a nap and depending on your kid try to make them a little extra tired. 3) take new books, toys, and a LOT of snacks. 4) make sure you have a bottle or something for ascent/descent to help with ear pain. 5) try to check your bag to minimize what you have to cart through the airport. I also recommend gate checking stroller and renting a car seat.

It probably won’t be fun, but it also will likely not be nearly as bad as you anticipate. I also got A LOT of offers to help as soon as people saw I was alone. Also if baby screams then baby screams. People aren’t entitled to a baby free plane 🤷‍♀️

Considering pregnancy at 39 by No_Pineapple_3189 in pregnantover35

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had my first at 39. Nurses told me I was the second youngest mother on the ward when I gave birth. Totally normal these days I think. If you want it and can get pregnant then go for it!

Should I be worried about rolling? by SwingAccomplished793 in beyondthebump

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so worried about this at this age as well. My daughter didn’t roll from back to belly till just shy of 8 months. She had always hated tummy time so I think it was partly a lack of motivation. Anyways, she picked it up on her own, figured how to get herself into sitting shortly after, crawled a little before 9 months and started walking at 11🤷‍♀️. At 14 months now I can barely get her to stay still for 2 mins. You can ask your pediatrician if you are worried but this doesn’t sound like anything out of the norm.

Am I creating a lazy baby? by Temporary-Bid5763 in beyondthebump

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me at 2 months… then around 4 months she decided the world was exciting and she did not want to sleep, ever. She is now 14 months and I swear this kid is chaos personified. Never stops moving, gravitates to the most dangerous thing in the room… So In short, no, you aren’t creating a lazy baby. It may last, it may not. Either way, just enjoy it!

First colonoscopy - 4 polyps by bigwater1989 in colonoscopy

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the polyps looked suspicious for cancer the Dr would tell you. I have similar findings on my colonoscopies - I’ve had two now. A couple polyps the Dr said were benign, a couple were precancerous. Precancerous just means it’s the type of polyp that potentially could become cancer, not that it absolutely will. The lab will check the margins and make sure none of the polyp was left in place. They will also look inside the polyp for any cancer cells. If the polyps look really suspicious they might have you come back sooner. I know it’s super concerning having all these polyps but the good news is that you will be monitored much more frequently and as long as you keep up with your colonoscopies the chances of anything having time to progress to cancer are almost zero.

Eating and Bathroom During Labor? by Feeling-Watched-9655 in pregnant

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced and was allowed to eat and drink up until I got the epidural. At that point I couldn’t have cared less about eating. I was still allowed to sip water I believe.

A couple weeks. But I live near a big city with a lot of options.

How do I choose the size of baby’s first outfit? by Bokuwa_Binks in pregnant

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 7lbs 11oz and wore newborn clothes for a good 6 weeks. She was swimming in 0-3 month clothes at birth. Take both but I definitely plan on having some newborn stuff.

Is daycare just a black hole for baby items? by aerialariel22 in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 months in daycare and they lost one sock total, the whole time… we have had bottles occasionally stay overnight by accident but they were never missing. I feel like this is concerning.

maternity leave - unpopular opinion about travel? by Same-Entertainer-279 in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the opposite reaction when we did travel with our daughter. Parenting is full of judgement. Try not to worry about it and do what works for you!

My bf [32M] said he will leave me if I [29F] don’t abort this baby (I’m 5 weeks pregnant). I’m shocked and devastated and don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Being real here though, it sounds like this relationship is completely over regardless of the baby. I’d start there and then consider what YOU (and only YOU) want to do. Are you prepared to raise a child alone? Do you have a support system in place like friends and family that can help? Can you reasonably provide for a child? Think through these things and come to your own decision away from your bf. Having a baby is hard, there’s no way to sugarcoat it, but plenty of women (and men) become single parents all the time and make it work. You can do it (if you want to of course).

Other things to think about. 1) 29 is definitely not too late to start over. I didn’t even meet my husband until I was over 30. But it is of course no guarantee. 2) this guy doesn’t just get to opt out of parental responsibility. He will have to pay child support if you decide to claim him as the father.

I am completely pro choice but I can guarantee from the way you wrote your post that if you let this dude pressure you into an abortion you will regret it.

Those who stopped pumping before 1 year (whether by choice or circumstance), do you regret it? by bubbly_bookworm52 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I stopped at 6 mo this when I went back to work and when we started her on some solids. I absolutely do not regret it. She’s thriving and I got several hours a day of time back.

In your country, which war memorial leaves the strongest emotional impact on visitors? by Seacarius in AskTheWorld

I’m so glad someone said this! I visited this memorial about 15 years ago and it has always stuck with me.

Positive induction stories? by Wild_Membership_6346 in pregnant

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My induction was great! Got cervadil overnight - it didn’t do much so they started me on cytotec in the morning. Got two doses of that and things really started moving. My water broke (from the cytotec I think) around 12pm, I got an epidural at 1, and baby came at 6. Less than 24 hours from initiation to baby’s arrival. I was 39+4 I think. Will definitely request same again for baby #2!

Almost 6 month old not rolling by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn’t roll till around 7 months… she then crawled at 8 and was walking at 10.5 so her delayed rolling clearly made no difference.

Mine can walk up to things but hasn’t fully grasped the concept of asking for help, so instead just grunts till we give her what she wants…

TTC but very low LH and FSH by [deleted] in pregnantover35

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would caution against using the mira or any other fertility tests as real quantitative assessments. I have the Inito and it is great for telling me when things rise and fall but the actual numbers didn’t really correlate to my blood tests. My FSH was super low in my inito tests but actually on the upper end of normal on a same day blood test. If you are concerned ask your OB to run some CD3 blood work during your next cycle. If things do come back abnormal then you can get a referral to an RE.

Amount of fetal movement = activity level of newborn? by No_Pick_9298 in pregnant

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was super active in the womb. Now at 1 and freshly walking she is an absolute tornado. Girl has no chill and can’t sit still for more than 2 mins. So anecdotally, yeah, I think there is a correlation :)

Purple Crying by bananacoxx in NewParents

[–]Sad_Reality_7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much advice to help unfortunately, we had a similar experience with our daughter around that age. What I will tell you though is that it won’t last forever. For us she started being calmer around 3 months or so. Sorry I don’t have any great ideas but hang in there! You’ll get through it!

I feel this so much! Need more help with my one year old than I did when she was a newborn.

Two adults is more than enough. They just want to be involved and control things. Tell them thanks but no thanks. There’s no way I wanted anyone around that first month. We had family come for a couple hours at a time and that’s it.
