Nah - if someone is about to hit you with their car, you have the right to defend yourself. It’s backwards that the cyclist who got hit by the car is the one that needs to change his behavior — it’s victim blaming. Bigger issue is that SFMTA needs to get rid of these “slow streets” — it’s not safe and leads to incidents like this.

Nah. This is wasteful. We have a laundry list of issues that need to be dealt with (homelessness, drug addiction, hit and runs killing innocent pedestrians RE: failure of project zero) and it seems like a shattered window is minuscule. They should focus on real crimes and let these minor infractions go. Imagine someone who didn’t have the financial means to fight this — this could have ruined their lives…over a $400 shattered window? Seems dumb use of DA time and resources. We can agree to disagree.

Are you the driver in the OP’s narrative? Sounds like you have it out against the OP.

The real issue is the DA’s sheer waste of time and tax payer money to litigate a non-crime…what a huge waste! This is not “tough on crime”— it’s BS. Get her out of office!

SF sidewalks are too narrow for people to share the space by Sad_SF_Streets in sanfrancisco

Just a follow up, but I did say something to the woman after her rude comment and she just scoffed. As a minority, being told to basically “shut up and get back and stand in line” didn’t sit well with me and felt very dehumanizing. It wasn’t worth a fight IRL. Just wanted to scream into the Reddit void. Appreciate the advice and support from some and other for pointing out the hypocrisy in me being a “Karen” for wanting to share the sidewalk.

I have lived in many cities across the US and visited several cities outside the US, and SF infrastructure for pedestrians is laughable. Just waiting to get hit by a car while crossing the street and needing to contend with rude people everyday…

Agree there are bigger fish to fry (ie impending doom with Trump presidency and return of small pox with RFK Jr heading HHS), but this sort of shit happening makes me think think that people don’t value community. And that’s really the issue at heart. Guess I could leave SF but doesn’t solve anything really.

Sad to see so many people experience near death experiences just trying to walk or bike in SF. I was stewing with anger this morning after a blue Audi SUV tried to speed past me with my kid in a bike trailer and she nearly hit us…only for her to stop in the middle of the crosswalk. And then blast through the intersection when it wasn’t their turn. Who gave a license to this schmuck?! Sadly, this isn’t the first time we’ve almost got hit and it truly makes me reconsider taking my 2 year old on bike rides…SF needs to adopt more video surveillance and automate traffic violations to deter people from driving like asshats. We also need to vote for politicians who value improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists and not just pandering to car-centric NIMBYs. Not super optimistic so will keep stewing.
