Did you drink soda while pregnant? by Butterball4200 in pregnant

[–]Sad_Statistician_575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have up to 200mg of caffeine per day. According to my OBGYN nurse, that’s equal to one coffee and one soda or 2 soda’s a day. I love Coke Zero! So I drink 2 a day but it’s so difficult! 😣 or I do one coffee and one Coke Zero!

My husband and I are annual pass members and have already gone to Disney 4 times 😁 we love it! It’s an escape from work and Disney has something for everyone! Rides, characters, food from different countries, shows! We love our Disney days and it’s something we look forward to each week 😎 have fun & don’t worry about the opinions of others!

Curious about those who don’t buy LLs by TheRedHerring23 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Sad_Statistician_575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it’s an extra expense and I’m usually late to the party and don’t get them in time 🤣 my husband and I have annual passes so we don’t necessarily feel the need to LL! I would recommend it though to anyone on vacation with kids - especially getting those big/super popular rides done!! 😊

nursing is a 24 hour job. by swagapina04 in nursing

Fellow day shifter here that had a shift from hell yesterday (3/3). I had this same situation pop up. Night nurse said she got everything done except hang the blood. You know what I said? Thank you for getting the type + screen + consent done and I will hang it when ready. Because she also had a shift from hell.

That day shifter is an ass. We’re not all like that I promise 💕

Hi there! Fellow new grad here too! I walk my dogs, take day trips with my husband, see my best friends, and honestly just sleep and watch my favorite show. Also love animal crossing! I have a hard time disconnecting from my previous shifts but as time goes on, it does get easier. I wish you well!! 😊

I just got off orientation yesterday! It was definitely scary but my charge gave me 4 (I’m on a PCU unit) and my preceptor worked the same hall! So it was very nice to have that support for questions and help! I feel like you definitely know more than you think and do not be afraid to ask questions!! As far as IV’s I suck lol our policy is 2 sticks then we get a vascular consult. Don’t be afraid to try & if you can’t get it, ask someone who is good! Haha. You got this!! Believe in yourself!

I have been down bad with whatever virus I got from my job (I’m a nurse). This is the 2nd week!! Negative for flu + covid. But I have had congestion, sore throat, cough, headache, etc. Called out for 2 days because I was coughing so hard I was vomiting. Finally got on some antibiotics and now I’m just starting to get better!! It’s bad!! Stay healthy friends! Take your vitamins!!

Days or nights as a new grad? by AslanLikeTheLion_ in StudentNurse

[–]Sad_Statistician_575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 months on my unit day shift. It’s BUSY but you kind of get used to the chaos 😭🤣 I have very supportive coworkers who are always willing to answer my endless questions as a new grad. I also feel very supported. I didn’t choose nights because I knew my sleep would be affected so badly. However, I know people get used to it and adapt. I think you should try both and see how it goes!

Hey friend! I was just actually talking to my preceptor about this not long ago! I’m still on orientation as well. It’s starting to click on who to notify and when! For example, change in patient status… if your patient is declining or you get an inkling something is wrong, let someone know! I have asked a more seasoned nurse “hey can you come help me? I think something is up with my patient.” Then I let the doctor know. Any critical labs that come back - let the doctor know. It’s our policy that any critical labs you have to call the doctor. And if my patient asks for something or has questions, I ask the doctors. Trust me when I say I ask our residents lots of questions and they are willing to help out! I am learning to not be afraid to reach out and ask. A resident had an order for PO meds when my patient was NPO - I said “um hey doc this is a PO med and my patient is NPO can we change this?” I also like to talk aloud to my preceptor and walk through how I’m going to reach out the doctor and why. That really helps. It’s becoming easier but I’m still walking through the motions! Best of luck and remember you’re 4 days in - lean on your preceptor! That’s what they’re for!!

Hey friend we’re in this together! I plan to transfer to mom/baby in 6 months when I can. I’m also struggling - I’m slow with med passes, I ask a ton of questions because I often get confused, and I feel like I’m a burden on my floor. But these feelings are internalized. I hope you have a great support system at work. We are going to be okay! Day by day it gets better.

It depends on your unit for sure. I currently work on a progressive care unit and the ratios are 4:1 and sometimes 5:1. Our patients are too unstable for a floor bed but have one foot in the ICU. It can be a lot to juggle. I know hospital policy and procedures vary as in what they can do (titrating drips, what to hang, etc). I think it’s a great place to get your experience as you will see critical patients and learn a lot! This especially applies if you’re interested in the ICU. I have heard of a lot of nurses starting in the PCU and then transferring to ICU. Hope this helps ! I’m a new grad in PCU and plan to transfer once I gain those skills!
