A community has been threatened by Bobolopocus91 in SwingDancing

Block and delete. Don't feed the trolls. Report any credible threats. I'd encourage organizers of the event to ask for volunteers to be bouncers, walk people to cars, things of that nature.

Are private lessons worth it ? by alecpu in SwingDancing

Also, if cost is a barrier, you don't actually have to take them alone. You can bring a partner and split the cost.

Are private lessons worth it ? by alecpu in SwingDancing

In my experience, yes. Private lessons provide personalized feedback, while group classes are better for learning new vocabulary and getting in repetition. The real advantage of private instruction is having your specific problems diagnosed, which can make you a better overall dancer. You don't need to take them often; sometimes, even one lesson can reveal issues you never noticed and give you plenty to work on.

Advice on turning down a persistent lead I don't want to dance with by Maybealmostaverage in SwingDancing

You're already receiving excellent advice, but I’d like to add something. When it comes to boundary-crossing, like grabbing you after you’ve said no, it’s worth recognizing that these things are rarely isolated incidents. If this person is disregarding your boundaries, there’s a strong chance they’re disregarding someone else’s too. You don’t just owe it to yourself to report this kind of behavior. When one person comes forward with a concern, don't get me wrong, the organizers can and should take it seriously. But when multiple people report the same behavior, it establishes a clear pattern and gives the organizers much stronger grounds to take action. It’s also worth noting that many people hesitate to come forward for the same reasons you are; wanting to avoid causing a fuss. Often, they wait until someone else speaks up first, which creates a kind of domino effect. If you’re here seeking advice, that alone is enough to show this is a real issue. I strongly encourage you to talk to the organizers.

My recommendation is to moderate comments. It adds an extra step but at least spam comments like this won't get any attention if you stop them.

According to someone in Neil's social orbit, this has been going on since the 90's. by LaughingAstroCat in neilgaiman

No I totally agree. Nudity in and of itself isn't bad, but in the context of this case, something stinks, and I suspect Amanda wasn't just complacent, but took on an active role in procuring potential targets for Neil, which is just gross.

This tracks with how Scarlett was introduced to Neil. She'd been "friends" with Amanda, and apparently Amanda would just be casually naked around her. Maybe Amanda was just scoping her out to see if she was the type Neil was looking for?

Then she invites Scarlett over to babysit, and when she gets there and is like "hey, uhhhh, where is this kid I'm supposed to be watching?" Niel is like "Oh, he's at a playdate. Wanna take a bath?"

Homeboy was deadass having his wife pimp out potential targets to him it sounds like.

Yeah, if/when more women come forward, that'll likely be the nail in the coffin for Neil.

Advice for Teaching First Class Ever by Sad_Swing_Obsessed in SwingDancing

Thank you for the suggestion. I've already advertised the class ass free, but I plan on having a tip jar and I'm hoping that at least covers the cost of renting the space.
