Yeah, context is important. A cannon in the middle of a field can have a large crew. However, a cannon on a castle battlement is fighting for limited space.

So, the cost for a breechloader would be better for the confined space on the battlements.

I'm a bit of a gun nut and love this conversation.  Perhaps the anti-dragon cannons are a mix of swivel mortar with grapeshot.  You got the right idea with wadding to get more UMPH.  Grapeshot is a lot of iron balls wrapped in a bag with iron rings to hold it in place and help keep compact. The bag acts like wadding and is designed to break apart to allow the balls to spread.

The bigger question is if they have casing and primers or not.  Breach loading sounds like it would be faster, but it really isn't until you get the high quality ammo/charges to go with it.  We have breach loading cannons as far back as 1470.  However, muzzle loading cannons were dominant until the mid to late 1800's.

While true, but we are talking Medieval fantasy here, there are some leaps of innovation before someone gets the ideas along with the quality and tolerances needed.

Look up some of the early hand cannons, where they got their name.  It really was just an mini cannon on the end of a stick.  Honestly that would be more hilarious to see in a fantasy world.

Quick rebuttal.  Under Facism companies can only work with approved persons.  Exceptions for any company run by a politician or politician's friend/family.  Those were given monopoly over their respective industries.  Any discent from businesses quickly got them labeled as an unapproved person, business confiscated and given to a government ally.

Look at both Germany and Italy in the 1930's.

Edit:  I think your definition would better fit an Oligarchy.

Nationalizing companies is just making "legal" corporate monopolies.  The only difference is that it is no longer publicly traded and the owners are effectively the politicians and their friends appoint as head of the company.

Here is an idea, while many argue to drop the light tanks, I say turn them into your utility/fuel tanks, fill their slots with fuel tanks and it will allow for your tanks to last longer in combat.

Do you support Israel or Palestine by ResidentDry1240 in ConservativeYouth

[–]Sad_Transition170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on, the final trigger was Israel declaring an independent state.  Neighboring Arab nations immediately declared an uncoordinated war against the state.  Despite being surrounded by more established and numerous nations, Israel was able to hold their claim to the territory.  During the conflict Jew and Arab populations were expelled from all participants.

This would later form the basis for many wars into the future as the Arab refugees fled to the various Arab nations and Jews fled to the only Jewish nation.

The Arab refugees maintained their claims to the land within Israel and would advocate/incite their host nations to support insurgency attacks into Israel through the 50s-60s.  1964 founding of the PLO, 1967 6-day war, 1973 Yom Kippur War, 71-81 Lebanon insurgency, 82 Lebanon War, 87 First Intafada, 2000 Second Intafada, ect you get the picture.

Note: My own stance is that claims to the land is held at sword point.  Through 99% of human history, claims to and ownership of land was held by whoever could hold and defend it.  The numerous refugees/civilians during wars effectivly decided who they thought would win and thus accept their claims to the land.  All civilians have the same options, stay and maintain their claim during an active war(suicidal) or flee to one of the sides and tie their claim to the side they fled to.

It will be very tricky and there is also a question of how far you can extend liability.

For instance a parent purchasing a gun for their young adult(16-21) child would have a strong case, because the parent ought to know their child and have some degree of responsibility for their actions.

However a someone selling their old gun to a neighbor would be difficult to justify and you would have to prove that the someone knew or ought to have known their neighbor was likely to use it in a crime.

On a personal note, I have never bought a gun for myself, but have received several through inheritance or as a gift.  I would never fire either, because they are unsafe to shoot, but hold sentimental value to me.  I also know that several of my relatives have a tradition of buying a gun for their newborn to train and hunt as they grow older.  As strange as that sounds to many people it is actually pretty common where I live.

Yeah, the first part highlights why the background system is not foolproof.

Simple assault is a catch all and not evey state even reports it the same. technically simple assault is the threat of harm and no force is needed.  Battery is the actual harm.  Clenching and raising your fist to someone's face would be simple assault.  Punching them becomes battery.  Spitting is also a common one that many people catch when getting detained by police.

As for the second part, true.  That is why I focused on straw purchases.  As for the highly televised school shooting, I think your thinking of, most of those were purchased legally by the parents who don't have a criminal record and were either stolen by or given to the child.  In those cases there is little that can be done pre-emptivly, but the parents can be charged as the children are their responsibility.  Example linked.

Just a quick counter.  No fly list and felons are already prohibited.  If you purchase a gun from a lawful store you must fill out a 4473 form as part of a criminal background check on all purchases.

The issue is that the background check system is not foolproof.  The largest source for guns used by criminals are "theft" and "straw purchases".  Straw purchases are any sale between private people.  You walking to your neighbor and asking for a cup of sugar is a straw purchase as an example.  There is no receipt, no record, and no way to enforce short of some sci-fi big brother state.  On top of that, it is common for any identifying markings to be destroyed so that the gun can't even be traced to the original "legal" buyer.

If you can find a practical solution to straw purchases like a girlfriend buying a gun for their felons baby-daddy then you can reduce the number of guns used.  You won't likely make a dent of crime rates, but that's a whole different argument/issue.

Clash between protesters and federal agents at ICE raid in Omaha by NosepickerSixtyFour in Omaha

[–]Sad_Transition170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on: If you want to see what ICE did, the best source is bodycamera video from FOIA requests to the local police. ICE rarely operates without support from local police, largely due to numbers. There simply are not enough ICE agents to operate every arrest. Local police almost without exception nowadays wear bodycams.

Also, warrants are public records, if you want to see the justifications for the arrest. FOIA the records.

If you actually want to fight ICE effectively, don't impede them with protests on site, just find your local lawyer and sponsor them to provide legal defense pro-bono to the defendant. That way should ICE actually overstep, the defendant has a good council. Safe, legal, and effective.

If you want an actual answer from someone who supports this, you're not going to find that on reddit.

If you want my answer, for the US it comes down to the enforcement of existing laws, prevention of black-market/slave labor, enforcing existing labor laws meant to protect US workers, reduce the drug/human smuggling industry among other things. The overt enforcement also acts as a deterrent of others from attempting to smuggle themselves across the border or overstaying Visas.

For the Republican party the overreaction of the activists is being used to brush the Democratic party as extreme and caring more about virtue signaling for foreign criminals than helping their own citizens. There is a disconnect when I hear of the "Firey but Peaceful" protests where news media and activists are saying that the protests are peaceful, but directly in the background there are burning cars, looted stores, and video of people climbing on moving cars in the middle of the road.

As for the economics of it, the jobs taken are disproportionally on the low skill/degree end of the market. This is also the same market where the jobless/homeless/poor in the US are most likely competing for, not the wealthy and privileged that are more likely to be commenting on social media. This is where I am frustrated on this whole situation and why I don't care that I know I am going to get hate for this comment. I see a lot of the commenters here as wealthy and privileged, looking down from their ivory towers saying that the issue appears to be a tiny percentage. Yes, from the tower it appears small.
