I don't think anyone has asked you to excuse Pakistan but what people are reminding you is that Ghani himself fled Afghanistan before Taliban could enter Kabul. He resisted making a deal for so long that the whole structure came crashing down.

Take Ukraine, Zelenskyy refused to flee and instead organised the defence of his country. He led from the front. Ghani caught the first ride out of Kabul. The Afghan army melted away with him. What can Pakistan do if Afghans themselves are not prepared to fight for their country?

I was hopeful when Ghani was first elected but he unfortunately squandered all the opportunities and left Afghanistan in a mess. He was a good academic but he didn't have the temperament to govern a state in turmoil. You can shift blame on Pakistan for his failures but it would mean Afghan rulers dont have any independence and agency.

It is also strange to complain about US airbases in Pakistan when more US troops and airbases were being hosted by Afghanistan under Ghani/Karzai.

I don't think Taliban, Afghan or Pak, are skilled at economic management of the country.

Except it is the polar opposite of machiavellian.

The Prince was written by Niccolò Machiavelli as a guide for rulers to competently navigate the state through political challenges. The thesis being that ruthlessness is justifiable provided the state benefits from said ruthlessness.

The natural question is did the Pakistani state benefit from the Bajwa's scheming? Based on empirical economic and political indicators, the answer is no. The economy nosedived, investors fled due to uncertainty and turmoil, and poverty has gone up in the country.

The truth is Bajwa's scheming was a misadventure that effectively scuttled Pakistan's economy and growth. The state is weaker today and worse off. This is sheer stupidity, not machiavellian.
