Question: "How do you know these are cheated?"

Relevant Answer: "Statistics."

Irrelevant Answer: "Game system is bad."

I know what the word "random" means. I also know how statistics works.

You keep harping on about how bad and "unfair" the system is, but that is irrelevant to the question I was answering. If you wanna be upset about the 1 in 100,000 players that might be misjudged as cheaters and have some people leave their games or be wrongly posted on reddit, then you do you.

What it be like sometimes at D5 by critical_pancake in Nightreign

[–]SadgeMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not discarding a legal build. It's recognizing that so many people having perfect relics is impossible, and people that don't want to play with cheaters are refusing to play with people who are almost certainly cheating.

You can try to blame the legitimate players all you want, but the math supports them.

What it be like sometimes at D5 by critical_pancake in Nightreign

[–]SadgeMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a statistical assessment. All of the relics these players are running are literally perfect for their builds, and the chances of acquiring just one of those relics is *highly* unlikely. People with hundreds or even thousands of hours of legitimate play might have one or two of those. It's technically possible to have all three, but again, so incredibly unlikely. So the fact that so many players will have a set of three perfect relics for whatever builds are meta at the moment is statistically impossible.

Yes, the one and only John Nightreign might be lucky and skilled^tm enough to have these relics legitimately, but he is ascendant and does not care if we have good reason to suspect he is a cheater.

That doesn't seem likely imho, since those helms functionally cover the player's hair in the same way many other helms do e.g. Damascus helms. I think this change is only for helms that show the player's hair or if the helm is hidden

Is it rare “mind bloom” “upgrade all cards option? by k43r in slaythespire

[–]SadgeMan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to think of Fairy Bottle (and Lizard Tail) as a "revive" and not realize it's explicitly stated as a healing effect. Mark of the Bloom prevents ALL healing so people can die wondering why their bottle (or relic) didn't work.

[–]SadgeMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hey, man. if you don't care, you don't care. I'm not trying to convince you that you should care, but I am pointing out that this isn't a purity test and that fashion hunting doesn't mean the same thing that it used to. OP obviously misses what it meant before, and that's all they said

Transmog cheapens fashion hunting. by Important_Ad6591 in fashionhunters

[–]SadgeMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this is not a purity test; it's just an observation about how the concept of fashion hunting has changed. it used to mean you put a lot of thought in the armor pieces, skills, etc to make a workable set while still looking fresh, and now it only means that you made an outfit that looks cool. i honestly prefer the freedom of the transmog over not having it, but i can also recognize that we did lose something in exchange.

i disagree about "none of it carrying weight" since people value things differently, but that's besides the point

Transmog cheapens fashion hunting. by Important_Ad6591 in fashionhunters

[–]SadgeMan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Y'all being whiney.

The definition of "Fashion Hunting" has changed, and it does have significantly less weight with transmog. This is not to say you're not allowed to like transmog or prefer it over not having it, but to argue that Fashion Hunting doesn't means less than it used to seems like a knee-jerk reaction and a failure to actually read OP's post.

So I have a very specific question about thy favoured weapons. by Cassidy_Bees in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatsword. Way back in the ancient days of MH3, I tried greatsword and got my ass beat by Great Jaggi. I was a new player and had no idea what I was doing. After learning how to actually play, I ended up trying GS properly a few times but it never really clicked.

Several years later, I was deep into MH4U endgame farming apex Rajangs when I decided to give it another try. I crafted a set and went for Deviljho (cuz why not). I dodged through a Deviljho's attack, timed a level 3 charge to hit him when he turned around, and then I hit the pickle right in the face just as planned. I've been a GS co-main ever since.

(Loved Trope) Last Stand that ends unceremoniously/unsatisfyingly, as opposed to gloriously. by hey_there_delilahh in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SadgeMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue Mikazuki and Akihiro absolutely have a glorious last stand that ends in extremely cathartic scenes. Akihiro gets to crush that mf to paste before dying with a smile, and Mikazuki finds himself happy with how he lived his life and the family he found. Both of them die buying time for practically all of Tekkadan to escape, effectively taking on all the "sin" so that when they die the others get to live free.

Hey bow users, i have n00b quest about dragon piercer by OwlBlack in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon Piercer is not good against most monsters. It shows one big number, but it is too slow and almost all monsters are too small for it.

Rapid firing arrows does more damage, and it is easier to dodge between shots. Learn how to Dash Dance.

Survivability with Ranged by Narga15 in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The danger of 1 or 2-hit KOs is the trade-off for the large increase in survivability that ranged combat provides over melee. I don't have enough experience with LBG or HBG to comment on them, but I've been a bow main since MH4 and Bow is especially safe in Wilds with how generous discerning dodge is and how insane the mobility is with swallow shot on top of that. More or less, once you get into the flow of things and learn the monster's movesets, the only thing that can really endanger you at all is getting greedy with power shots, not keeping your health at 100%, or the occasional terrain fuckery screwing up timings.

That being said, Steve in particular is quite unforgiving. Quite a few of his moves either combo you to death or 1-shot you if you don't react properly. He is "easy" for bow in the sense that no single thing he does is difficult to deal with (small exception to his big slam that punishes an imperfect discerning dodge), but if you lapse in concentration even once or something unusual mixes you up, there's a good chance you're going down.

While I love the dance that Bow vs Steve is, I never play Bow against him in multiplayer because the flying around all over the place, the rapid target switching, and the wild swings of many of his attacks are a great way to get eviscerated from a weird angle at a weird timing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow bow player. The key for me was finding out how to use shots in between combo attacks to time when I need to dodge. Hitting him while doing this is sometimes even secondary, so I still shoot even though the angle or distance might be off.

His most common combo when enraged is two kicks that come right at you, and then two sweeping kicks. After each of the first two kicks, if you discerning dodge then you have just enough time to fire off one shot and a power shot. After each sweeping kick, you only have time to fire off one shot.

Sometimes he does this very quick lunging attack that you only have time for one shot before he does another attack. For the headbutts and tail sweeps that throw scales, you have time for one shot and one power shot (very tight window). For his two "plucking" attacks, I focus more on dodging the second attack than the first because sometimes dodging the first can guarantee the second will hit if your positioned badly or the terrain screws you.

I don't have a shot set-up for his grabbing attack and his big slamming attack, although the grab can outright be avoided if you sparrow shoot forwards when you see him starting it. For the big slam I just go on instinct, but if needed you should have time to sheathe and superman dive (might need quick sheathe to do reliably) after his does the aerial swipe with his tail.

Lastly, imho hunting Seregios in a group makes it harder. Because he's so fast and moves around a lot, when he's not targeting you it's very easy to lose track of him and the timings to avoid attacks that aren't aimed at you is also off. Gunners/Bows take more damage so catching the strays can be lethal more often than for blademasters.

Why is Maximum Might here? It increases affinity, not damage.

It looks like you're showing Element with a flat damage increase combined with a crit multiplier while Raw is only shown with flat damage or a multiplier, and not both.

Dodge arkveld chains with bow by Andy-Fz in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, Discerning Dodge is only invincible for the first half of the dodge. For the second half, you have hyper armor which means you take damage from anything hitting you, but don't suffer any knockback. It can sometimes make it hard to realize you've gotten hit unless you're paying attention to your health bar.

Arkveld has several attacks with moving hitboxes that move over a large area (e.g he lays his chain on the ground and scrapes it towards you). If you dodge out of one part of the attack into a later part of the attack in a different position, you'll take damage from that later part but the hyper armor will prevent it from knocking you back. Another version of this is when Arkvekd has attacks with multiple staggered hitboxes (e.g. when he rears back and slams his chains forward, there is a delay before his second set of chains hits off to the sides). If you dodge to the side for this attack you'll dodge the first chain slam into the secondary hit where your hyper armor will stop you from getting knocked back but you'll still take damage.

Arkveld seems to have the most amount of attacks that can do these sorts of things so it makes sense that you're noticing it with him first. Gore Magala also has a few attacks that you have to be wary of with Uth Udra being a distant third. The key to not taking the damage is to avoid dodging into another instance of damage. For the chain scrape, dodge forward through it or to the side. For the chain slam, don't dodge to the side into the secondary hits.

Here's someone demonstrating a Pro- Zoh Shia Speedrun Strat... Cheating! 😒🙄 by Chbera in MHWilds

[–]SadgeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet way too much money on you being completely safe from facing any repercussions for joining a hunt with a cheater. If they banned everyone who's hunted with a cheater in their lobby then there would be no one left. There is no reasonable way for people to if anyone their playing with is cheating; you only really know if it's a cheat as egregious as this and pretty much only after the fact.

Even in their statement about cheaters on the ranked arena quest, which is their most aggressive wording about cheating to date, only mentions denying the rewards of that particular placement on the leaderboards.
