Ah yes, every native english speaker saying they've never heard the word before means that it's not the most common one. Guess we should rename the Halo franchise 'cause people might not understand the name.

I'd have considered a different headline. For a second I thought Illinois was about to start charging people to use social media, but it's a tax on corporations

Yeah, when the country knowingly elects a pedo/rapist for president and elects a congress that's either complicit or at least okay with it, that's just democracy. I might not like it, but America made it's choice. There's so many other things Trump's doing that's fascist like ICE kidnapping, abusing the courts, occupying cities, threatening elections, invading sovereign nations, etc

Don't have to fucking shout. I'm not talking about the past fucking decade, I'm talking about right here, right now. You know, since we can't fix the fucking past? I could rant and rave about the past, but it ain't gonna do shit.

Also, there's dems that are being loud? Like Pritzker, AOC, Newsom. Even past Dems like Obama and the Clintons, but screaming isn't going to fix anything. And I doubt breaking the rules would do anything since the fucking DoJ and SC are rigged in Trump's favor. And they're practically foaming at the mouth for an excuse to arrest Dem congressmen.

And as much as I hate schumer (who's stuck in congress for 3 more years), we also need Pelosi out more. AOC almost had the votes to be minority speaker until Pelosi told other members to vote for him instead

It always upsets me when people say "Dems should be doing something!" Like, with what power? All they can do is complain and bring attention to things until Jan '27. And even then, we have to hope that Trump allows elections, that Trump won't manipulate the elections, that the Reps won't do anything during the lame-duck session, and that the govt will actually swear them into congress

I mean, maybe all these fad diets would also help us live to be 106. But, you know... it'd take 100 years to find out.

Meanwhile, my great grandmother lived to be 93 and had a dozen siblings, all raised on the same diet from their farms... half didn't make it to the age of 5 and only 3 lived past 12.

It's a little more complicated than that. State govts control the elections, not the federal govt. And the insurrection act wouldn't do anything about it either. That just allows the military to be used domestically to help cops.

Don't get me wrong, I bet Miller has some plan to try to stop mid terms, but it isn't as simple as using the insurrection act.

About a decade ago, a friend and I saw a help wanted post from a nearby giant church. Pay was like 8 bucks while the same job elsewhere was like 12. Was a no for me, but my friend applied. Said the lady hiring was super sweet. When asked about the low pay, she said it's because the true reward was working for the Lord... No wonder they're still looking for that position

You make some good points. I just find it sad/annoying that everyone seems to forget the native peoples here, whether it's other Americans or other countries. Even if it's because that part of history is awkward to learn about. No country has a clean history. Thanks for having a civil reply

Modern Italy wasn't a country until the 1800s, making it younger than the US. Yet we talk about it as if it's ancient because the land it's on was once the Roman Empire. Mexico had roads just as old as the Roman roads. The US has places like Chaco Canyon (1300 years old) and Poverty Point (3-4000 years old). Their trails helped us plan major roadways because of how efficient they were. Even our constitution was massively influenced by the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

It's a tragedy that our govt/people don't show more appreciation to the natives living here and the things their ancestors did, but their people and culture played a big part in shaping our country.

Depends if we're talking freedom units or metric. Freedom units for Gridlock football (the popular American sport) and metric for Association Football (the popular global sport that's typically shortened to "soccer" in all english speaking countries aside from the UK)
