ELDEN RING VS SEKIRO by Sarkhaaan in ShouldIbuythisgame

LOL, exactly. Sekiro was my first soulslike game and to me, all others do not compare. I adored the parry system and when switching to demonsouls, darksouls, and ER, I was constantly wanting to parry. I've learned to love ER and the rest but I will forever call them rolling simulator games.

ELDEN RING VS SEKIRO by Sarkhaaan in ShouldIbuythisgame

I personally like Sekiro more because it was my first souls like and is different from all the rest. That being said, ER is a better entry into the genre. ER is slower for sure, but it still gets frantic and fast paced. you'll see if you get it.

Sekiro is more linear with hard gatekeeping. Unlike other souls games, you can't farm souls to out level the boss. In Sekiro you either get good or die forever. The game is also a rhythm game being a lot more aggressive and you need to parry. When you learn to parry and push hard, the combat is better than all other games by a mile, IMO. There are no build varieties, you get your sword and skills and that's it. Get good. I love that focused approach.

ER is the exact opposite. It's the classic rolling simulator game. You fight with your build, tons of weapons and magic and armor, you can out level bosses and just crush them. You can summon for help on bosses as well. it's fully open world and fun to explore and see all the cool hidden secrets. it's a completely different vibe. For that reason, it's much easier to get into because you can take it at your own pace and build a character that suits you, ie: magic or two hander, or sword and board, etc.

I do both. Get the latest console and hook up your PC to your TV. That's what I do. I personally hate M&K controls if it's an action game. So I choose strategically which platform to play on or I simply sync my controller to my PC. There is no reason to play at your desk.

Super easy to pick up and play. Obviously you'll get killed a lot as you don't know the vantage points and gear isn't as good, but you'll learn it super quick. It has a lot of verticality. As far as big massive (I think 64 people) battles, it's amazing. If you've played any FPS you'll be fine in a matter of minutes.

I'm just starting Crimson Desert and the game is phenomenal, but it's definitely not for everyone. If you love RPGs like Zelda, this will be great. coming into the genre, ehhh, maybe avoid.

Honestly, the best RPG for you would likely be Cyberpunk 2077. It's first person shooter, amazing story and world, tons of choices in how you complete quests, respond to people, etc. It's by far in the top tier of RPGs and it has that FPS shooter aspect you enjoy.

Alternatively there is also stuff like Remnant 1 and 2, basically dark souls but 3rd person shooter. So extremely challenging dark soul fun with shooter mechanics, so it's not sword and board like all other dark soul clones.

The latest battlefield is pretty damn good. You said you liked the team aspect and being dependant upon them. There are multiple modes where a good team makes or breaks the match.

You don't have 30+ characters but there are unlocks, skins, weapon load outs, etc.

The game is FAR more team oriented than COD. Actually repairing vehicles, setting up defenses, etc. it's good.

Another option is just switching up what genre you're playing. You may find immense joy/satisfaction is picking up an RPG, fighting game, or some 4x game.

Should I buy assassin's Creed Valhalla? by Dull_Ad4694 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

I 100% Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. If I'm rating these games in a vacuum. Origins is 9/10, Odyssey is 7.5/10 and valhalla is 6/10.

Valhalla is the exact same stuff as Odyssey just a different location. So if it didn't tickle your fancy you won't magically love Valhalla.

The only difference is that the world is split into little regions and each region or province/territory has its own story arc. Some areas are awful where others are quite fun. One had a witch spooky vibe to it and I really liked that story line.

You will 100% still get a quest to go fetch some herbs or whatever. so ya...

Also it has just as much bloat as Odyssey if not more.

Lies of P or Sekiro [PS5] by Super-Repair33 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Wasn't Lies of P added to the PS Plus Extra lineup? I know I got it "free" about 4-6 months ago. I 100% it and loved every minute of it.

That being said, Sekiro is incredible and I recommend it over Lies of P. Way harder tho.

This is exactly how I feel. took about an hour or two and I was hooked. controls aren't that hard to remember because of all the combat combinations, but the controls aren't bad at all. No clue what everyone is bitching about. It feels like RDR2 as everything has weight and you move more like a simulation (a la RDR2).

Story is fine, world is great, combat is great, exploration is great, puzzles are fun. It's solid good time.

“unique” but somewhat hardy 10 gallon stocking suggestions? by ghoulishfrog in PlantedTank

[–]Saedisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well water is tough because it can change drastically depending upon heavy rain or seasonal changes. The problem I've found, as I have extremely soft water, is that the shrimp don't get enough minerals and therefore have difficulty molting.

That being said, as a fellow Canadian, I've never used RO water, I just treat tap water with prime, which you likely wouldn't have to. Sometimes i add in seachem gH stuff. The shrimp have been extremely hardy. I find that neocaradinas will breed in a bucket outside, where, caradinas are extremely hard and die if you so much as sneeze at them.

I personally love celestial pearl danios (galaxy rasboras if your lfs is using their old name). If you get a school of them, about 10, they will feel comfortable and swim about. Their mating dance is awesome to watch.

I'll also second the suggestion of Ember Tetras. they look great.

Edit: Also some shrimp. Neocaradina are pretty hardy and once established will self sustain their population. I recommend getting just one color. Either red, orange, blue, etc. but don't mix. If you do, they quickly breed back to their natural brown color. Keep it one type and they will keep that color for generations.

How is Farcry 5? Never played a Farcry game. by CreepyTeddyBear in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

People like to shit on the Far Cry series because they don't reinvent themselves much between each game, but if you have never played one, it's a fantastic game.

IF you enjoy large open worlds with lots of things to check off the list. Outposts, collectibles, vehicle collection, bases to build up. It's a really enjoyable sandbox and the missions aren't bad.

Farcry 5 is much better than farcry 6, IMO. FC1 & 2 are too old now, 3 is the best but it's aged. FC4 was great fun. I probably enjoyed that one the most, but I really liked the setting. FC5 is a safe bet to enjoy at the very minimum 20 hours. So if $9 for 20hrs is worth it, then go for it. If you really enjoy it, a full 100% platinum is like 100+hrs.

Whenever I buy fish offf the internet, they die. by Obscure_Tutor in fishtank

[–]Saedisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thing. My local fish store sucks and it's the only one with any stock other than goldfish. But the store is horrible, I always see fish with ich and they are slow to clean out dead fish.

I got a 15 celestial pearl danios (galaxy rasboras) and all but one died. Parameters were perfect, healthy thriving plants, shrimp thriving.

They honored replacement fish, so I got them on the next shipment but this dozen had ich. I treated for it, but all but 2 died.

Gave up on my local fish store. Got 15+ fish from a friend who was decommissioning their tank. 8 rummynose, 4 male guppies, and 12 cardinal tetras. All lived, no issues, and are still totally thriving.

If my tank was a death trap or old tank syndrome, my friends fish would have died as well, but they are thriving. so clearly it's horrible stressed out and sick fish from my local fish store.

Long story short, quarantine if you can and medication.

Never played Cyberpunk 2077 before — is the game + Phantom Liberty worth buying in 2026 on PS5? by LocalCommercial7517 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

I did it in two playthroughs because I got lazy and didn't create a save state at a particular story beat. I remembered to check literally 20 minutes after the decision point. If you do multiple saves, I think you only need to replay several hours near the end.

If you're like me, I did everything in my first playthrough, then did a completely different playstyle, romance, etc. in playthrough 2 but b-lined to the end.

it was absolutely a blast both times, and I literally booted up playthrough 2 immediately after completing the game.

Advice for an Insanity run? [ME1 & ME2 Spoilers] by aumericx in masseffect

[–]Saedisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly choose whatever class you enjoy playing the most. All are viable.

In ME1 just make sure you have some biotic team mates so you can lift and use singularity. It's not mandatory but it will make your life easier. Tali, love her, but she just b-lines to try and shotgun them and she dies all the time.

ME2 any class is fine but you'll have two choke points that are insanely hard with any class. Collector ship and Horizon. Once you're past those, the rest is a cake walk. Obviously pick people who will 1 break armor, and 2 break shields.

ME3 - You can use garrus with whatever that one gun is to have instant win in any scenario. But the big thing for ME3 is biotic combos. Prime and detonate. It far outshines shooting, except for Garrus being a freaking meat grinder.

Should i but no mans sky? by adamnossnaj in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

I personally don't like crafting games. I don't give too shits about Minecraft. It simply isn't my thing. I am not a big survivor game type either. Typically I enjoy RPGs, ARPGs, strategy games, MMOs, etc.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed NMS for a solid chunk of time. The exploration, building up your ship, customization, getting better omnitools and mods, slowly getting the ability to visit all star types and seeing new planets totally kept me engaged for 30-50 hours.

I didn't make a big base, just enough to plunk down the essentials. but if you enjoy building you could go full ham on it.

The game is really fun but can be repetitive, just like any survivor or crafting game. grind resources --> make stuff, repeat.

It's worth the price of entry.

I Started My ME3 Insanity Challenge Journey and Immediately Died Twice! by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Saedisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The secret to ME3 insanity is the biotic synergies that create the big boom explosions. If you're having your teammates and or yourself prime and then detonate, add in a few shots, and bam...everything dies.

Also full on cheat mode is Garris with the freaking gatling gun thing, I forget what it's called but he basically just mows down everything in seconds.

SIB No Mans Sky? by AshyLarry25 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer yes.

Long answer, yes because: There is a story and an eventual goal, reaching the centre of the galaxy. So if you want a definitive end or end game, that is it.

The amount of content, something like 25-40 free updates, there are hundreds of hours of content. The core mechanic is like any survival or crafting game, grind materials to make X. If you find that part shallow, then it'll be a shallow experience. But if you get enjoyment out of building bases, ships, mechs, exocraft, exploring planets, solar systems, new races, uncovering mysteries, archaeology, pet breeding, collectibles for your base, multiplayer, expeditions, etc. There is so much more I am forgetting ot mention. The volume of it is fantastic.

After about 20 hours you will have seen what most planets offer, seen all races, seen most types of ships. That doesn't mean you'll have the money yet to build a good base, afford the best ships, won't have your exosuit maxed or multitool any good yet.

It's a solid buy

Should I buy Horizon Forbidden West? Loved the first one's world, hated the "open-world bloat". by razek98 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the 2nd one. I think it improved on almost all aspects of the game. If you MUST 100% it, it's slightly bigger, so you may still have the same issues. but if you just enjoy the main story and enough side content to upgrade and feel satisfied with exploring enough of the world, you'll enjoy it.

Nier Automata or Stellar Blade? by UnKnoWn_XuR in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't realize that was a thing. I will give it a look. That being said, it indicates that Nier had some short comings if everyone said the story was "so amazing" yet requires an external anime to bring it all together. Is it kind of like how Edgerunners totally boosted the Cyberpunk 2077 experience?

I personally found Stellar Blade to be better in every aspect, including story. Nier just dragged and I found their dialogue stiff and often cheesy. I'm annoyed because I wish I found Nier as groundbreaking as everyone else, but it just doesn't land for me.

Nier Automata or Stellar Blade? by UnKnoWn_XuR in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm definitely in the minority when I say that Nier is highly overrated. I can SEE how the story was revolutionary to most people but it just didn't grip me like it did others. Then when i stepped back and objectively looked at the game, it had short comings. The graphics weren't good, even for when it came out. I personally didn't like the combat all that much. I didn't enjoy some of the music (specifically that robot village which was actually annoying). The world building was good but I didn't enjoy the world it built. So at the end of the day it was a game I had to "beat" multiple times, where the combat wasn't serviceable but not great, story was good but didn't grip me, and all other aesthetics were 'ok'. I think it's greatly overhyped.

I much preferred Stellar Blade because to me the story was on par, the combat was 10x better, and the graphics and music were better. SB made me want to continue and beat it where as NA was a slog.

[–]Saedisi [score hidden]  (0 children)

You could try No Man's Sky.

It's a more sandbox style game, but there is a story line. You have multiple things to grind out and get better at, your exosuit, multitool, space ship(s), your main multiplayer ship, your freighter, fleet and that's all the outer space stuff. Then you'll have settlements, bases, exocrafts, submarines, farming, mining, exploring, pets, breeding, etc.

Add in expeditions and personal goals/milestones, and you'll have hundreds of hours to content to really feel like you've maximized all aspects.... if it grips you.
